Transcript
00:00We go to the field level and welcome in Christian Barmore after this practice today.
00:04Christian, hello.
00:05Hello, how you doing, man?
00:07We're doing well.
00:07How are you doing after what was a good practice, a heated practice, got a little chippy out there?
00:12Yeah, for sure.
00:13You know, it's football.
00:14That's how it is.
00:14Let's get it.
00:15Hey, how you feeling, man?
00:16And I know you had a rough year last year, and it's a big scare, but I saw you come in.
00:21You almost killed the quarterback.
00:22They blew the whistle, but you look good.
00:24You look really good.
00:26Appreciate you, man.
00:26You know, just don't thank God for putting me in the best position I'm in and just helped me heal up
00:31and just, like, you know, just had the best training staff.
00:34My guy Jimbo had my all-season program, my guy U. Murphy, you know, all the supporters, all the coaches,
00:39you know, Coach Rabos, everybody got me, you know what I'm saying, just working hard for me,
00:42and I'm working hard for them, and just, you know, just keep on working, you know?
00:45So I remember talking with David Andrews about this when he went through something similar.
00:49Is this now behind you?
00:51Is it something you've got to monitor?
00:52How does it go from here?
00:53That's on behind me, man.
00:54It's in the past, man.
00:55You know, I don't look at the pay.
00:56I look in the future.
00:57That's all I'm focusing on.
00:58That's great to hear.
00:59I'm going to go back to two years ago, and I remember calling a game out in Denver.
01:02You were unblockable, and it was that end of the year where you really started to come on.
01:06You ended up getting the contract, and then you had the health care,
01:09but I watch you out here with guys like Milton Williams, you know, Landry on the edge, Keyon White.
01:15Are you excited what this front seven could potentially do?
01:17Oh, yeah.
01:18I'm really excited, man.
01:19Like, I'm happy every time I see them boys, you know, just becoming hard work, you know, just working hard every day,
01:25and just, like, literally just keep on getting better every day.
01:27You know, it's all about learning, be the best practice, and keep on working.
01:30But, yeah, for sure, definitely excited every day to see them.
01:32Christian, you look noticeably leaner, stronger.
01:36Are you playing at a lighter weight?
01:38Is that your plan going forward?
01:39Yeah, man.
01:40You see that, right?
01:40Yeah, I'm going to light it.
01:41I can see it from here.
01:41I don't know if you can see it.
01:43I'm watching you from right here.
01:44I can see it.
01:45Oh, yeah.
01:46You look good.
01:46Oh, yeah, man.
01:47Appreciate you, man.
01:48I'm 305.
01:48You know what I'm saying?
01:49In good shape, you know what I'm saying?
01:50A little slim.
01:51Yeah.
01:51Yes, sir.
01:52So, how's that going to help you?
01:54How do you feel different playing at 305 than you did before?
01:57Man, really, I feel a little bit quicker.
01:59I feel a lot way faster.
02:00Just, like, feel real good off my knees, you know, getting the weight off my knees and
02:02all that, you know, especially being a tall guy like me.
02:05So, really, just about just really keep on working.
02:07You know, Coach Frank, I made a good plan, and I do that every time.
02:10I got to do it for him, and I just really work hard every day.
02:12We had Milton Williams on a week ago.
02:14Asked him, like, what's the potential for him?
02:16Does he want to be an everyday player?
02:17How many snaps?
02:18Same thing for you.
02:19You know, you look at guys like you and yourself, you could be a specialist.
02:22Sort of come in on third down, rush to the passer.
02:25Do you envision yourself playing more, staying out there?
02:28I mean, I'm doing everything the coach tells me to do.
02:30You know what I'm saying?
02:30Everything the coach tells me to do, and I'm going to do it.
02:32After going up against some of these rookie offensive linemen day in and day out,
02:36what do you make of Jared Wilson and Will Campbell so far in this camp?
02:39Oh, man, them dudes is dogs, man.
02:41They're going to be good.
02:41They're literally dogs, man.
02:43They're good players and real strong.
02:45With good hands, strong hands, you know, good lean and good body control.
02:49They're going to be real good players.
02:50Is it nice to go against someone that isn't your teammate today?
02:53Oh, yeah, man, finally, yeah, man.
02:55Definitely, you know, playing to other people is just a different energy, you know,
02:58different energy.
02:59How's it been having Mike Vrabel as your head coach?
03:02I love it, man.
03:02He just keeps me hype every time I see him.
03:04You know, I practice with him with hands.
03:06You know, he just makes me hype every time I see him.
03:08He just keeps me good energy every time I see him.
03:10So you had a couple of skirmishes out there.
03:12What happened to those?
03:14And did Vrabel scratch himself to draw blood because somebody reported he had bleeding?
03:19Say it again.
03:20There's reports of Vrabel had blood on his head.
03:23He was in the middle of one of those skirmishes.
03:25Oh, dang, I didn't know that.
03:26No.
03:27Yeah, he's a tough guy.
03:28You know, the guy who played the game, you know, he's a dog.
03:31So, you know, he can take that pain.
03:33He can take that.
03:35Have you been able to hit him yet when he puts that pad on?
03:37Oh, yeah, he hit me first.
03:38He showed me him first.
03:39You know, he hit me first.
03:40That's what he showed.
03:41That's how you got to do it.
03:42So, you know, yes, sir.
03:43He loved that hit.
03:43He loved your hit.
03:44Hey, has he told the guys, like, if anybody complains about something, look up at the Hall of Fame
03:49and check his resume at all?
03:51Oh, no, man.
03:52He just said we can line up right now.
03:55That's what he'd like to say.
03:55We can line up right now, me or her, whoever, he said, you know.
03:59Hey, we were talking yesterday about the rookies needing to get the snacks.
04:04We've talked about the rookies and how some of them are on edge about a potential rookie dinner.
04:09How have the rookies been that you've dealt with so far?
04:11Oh, rookies, man, they're great, man.
04:13You know, every day coming and learning, keep getting better every day.
04:16You know what I'm saying?
04:16Man, we just, you know, literally just competing, man, just literally competing every day and getting better, really.
04:22Well, we appreciate the time, Christian.
04:24Appreciate you, man.
04:24Great to talk to you.
04:25Thanks, buddy.
04:25Good to see you out there.
04:26Good to see you, man.
04:27Christian Barmore joining us from the field.
04:30He looks great.
04:32We need more of that.
04:33Looks fantastic.
04:34And they need him.
04:35I said this while you were gone the last couple of days.
04:40I love the Milton Williams signing.
04:42I think it was a necessary signing.
04:44The Patriots need more blue chip, really good players.
04:47I understand why the Eagles moved off of them because that kind of money doesn't make sense really for them at this point in time.
04:54But it does make sense for this team.
04:57I don't think Milton Williams will live up to the contract because it's just such a huge money number that people are always going to be critical of it.
05:03But I'm going to tell you something.
05:04I love that signing.
05:05I have to give that as my preamble.
05:07Yeah.
05:07Because I'm going to tell you, Christian Barmore is going to have a bigger impact on this team than Milton Williams is.
05:13He is.
05:13I agree with that.
05:15I do.
05:16And I don't think people understand.
05:17Like, okay, so Milton Williams came from Philly, obviously.
05:21There are three down guys up front.
05:23They were unbelievable.
05:25They allowed him to sort of flourish like that.
05:27So if he came here and you didn't have Christian Barmore, that's a hell of a lot of pressure on that guy.
05:32When you have two guys like this, you know, as quarterbacks, when we get up to the line of scrimmage,
05:36I remember when Vince Wilfork was here and Seymour was here and Ty Warren and all those guys.
05:42Then you got Willie and Vrabel and Brewski and you're like, and Ted Johnson, you're like, JFC, Jesus Christmas.
05:49What do we do?
05:51How do we slide it?
05:52Who's the mic?
05:53It doesn't matter who the mic is.
05:54They're kicking our ass.
05:56Do we shade the nose?
05:57Is the nose shaded?
05:58It doesn't matter.
06:00But when you see 90 and 97 smack in the middle, you've got problems as an offense.
06:05If I'm the offensive line coach that week, I'm like, how the hell are we going to block these guys?
06:08Yeah.
06:09Because you do need help on one of them.
06:11Zoe, we played at Clipler and you were gone, but Vrabel was with Frank the Tank from Barstool.
06:16Frank's here?
06:17No, no, no.
06:17They went on a walk.
06:19They went on Frank's walk.
06:20Vrabel said the two most important people for this year are going to be Drake May and Christian Barmore.
06:24That was the second guy that he highlighted.
06:27Barmore has superstar in him.
06:29Yes.
06:30That's why I asked him.
06:30And that's tough because he's not an edge guy.
06:33I get it.
06:33He's an interior lineman.
06:35I say that because you drafted the guy and he came on two years ago.
06:38Prior to the health scare.
06:40Yeah.
06:40Prior to the health scare.
06:41He was unblockable at the end of that year.
06:43That defense got better and he's the reason for it.
06:45Why?
06:46I think he gets kind of forgotten about on this team in our minds because, well, he had the health issue last year.
06:54He also had some off the field issues.
06:56He had that very public incident in Providence involving police and people started to question, what are you doing?
07:02Are you focused on getting back and getting healthy?
07:05And all those questions lingered.
07:06I can tell you, you look at him right now and it's visible that he had a hell of an offseason.
07:12Growing up.
07:14And I think a new head coach and a fresh start can do that for a player, right?
07:17Sure.
07:18Like, hey, great opportunity to turn a page, start over, get a fresh start.
07:22And based on what we've seen of him, he was great out here today, by the way.
07:25He had a great day.
07:26He killed the center.
07:27Yeah, he did.
07:28He was dominating.
07:29And so I just think that's what you're saying.
07:32And it's a great sign.
07:33And he has the potential to be just as good at his position as Christian Gonzalez is at his already.
07:41Right?
07:41Could Christian Barmore become an all pro in this league?
07:43Yes.
07:44I think he could.
07:44Sure.
07:45I think he's got that ceiling.
07:46But it's going to take what he's doing right now.
07:48And so I think maybe for the first time in his Patriots career, even though he's so good he already got paid,
07:54he's maybe about to take it to a next level, another level, and continue to get towards that ceiling.
07:59Yeah.
07:59Yeah.
