00:00The National Guard lawsuit is expected to go to trial in Judge Breyer's court next week.
00:04Are you anticipating the Trump administration to try and get this lawsuit completely tossed
00:07now that they've been withdrawing slowly but surely the number of members on the ground?
00:14We are very aware of that potential strategy.
00:18They sort of signaled it to us earlier, and their sort of slow withdrawal of Marines
00:26and National Guard's people suggest that they might be coming to an end.
00:31They're not there yet.
00:31I mean, this is, by the way, far too slow and not soon enough.
00:35They should never have had people there.
00:38The Marines and the National Guard's people arrived to quiet streets in L.A. the day they arrived,
00:44and the president has been incredibly, in my view, disrespectful to these patriots.
00:50He's treating them as political pawns, and they're sitting on federal buildings.
00:53They're sleeping over each other.
00:55They're not having appropriate support.
00:57They should be doing other things.
00:59They were doing other things.
01:00The governor had the National Guard's people doing important things, fighting fentanyl and wildfires,
01:06and they were brought to L.A. as a political stunt, unfortunately.
01:09But we're aware of that possibility.
01:12It might be that by the time of the preliminary injunction hearing,
01:15there's no National Guard's people or Marines on the streets of L.A.,
01:18and Judge Breyer would have to look at that and determine if the issue is still ripe
01:23and if it's been one that deserves a ruling or if it's now moved because there's no more troops on the ground.
01:27But it reinforces the litigation strategy.
01:30Those things are not coincidental.
01:32Had we not positioned ourselves, we not postured with that litigation approach,
01:36we would not be in this position with that withdrawal.
01:39That's right.
01:39We pushed for the preliminary injunction hearing.
01:41They were aware of the hearing.
01:43The timing of their withdrawal is very cognizant of the hearing.
01:47And so our goal was to not have the troops there, and to the extent that they were there,
01:52have them removed as soon as possible.
01:53That is happening.
01:54So I mentioned earlier there's different ways to measure victory here.
01:57And some are with orders that we secure.
02:01Some are with the actions that the federal government takes in response to our actions in court.
02:05This is another example of that.
02:07Given the rate of litigation...
