00:00Chair of the Progressive Caucus, Representative Ana Maria Rodriguez-Ramos.
00:05I got that out.
00:10Hello, everyone.
00:14Thank you for being with us today.
00:15Buenas tardes.
00:16Soy Ana Maria Rodriguez-Ramos, Diputada del Distrito 102.
00:20I am the state representative for House District 102.
00:24And we're here fighting because instead of Governor Abbott and Texas Republicans
00:29focusing on working families and the negative impacts of Trump's horrible bill.
00:36As I shared and I expressed with my colleagues the other day, with his horrible bill, my daughter
00:40just got an organ transplant six months ago.
00:44With his horrible bill, I don't know that we can pay 75 percent increase in premiums.
00:50It is going to hurt my family and thousands of families statewide and nationwide.
00:56This horrible bill is hurting working families.
01:00When families can't afford to buy groceries, when families don't know if they're going
01:04to be able to keep their children alive because they can't no longer afford health care, that
01:09is what our focus should be.
01:11But instead, they're focusing on pushing these racist, radical redistricting maps.
01:18And why is it racist?
01:20So 70 percent, over 60 percent of our Texas population are Hispanic and African American
01:26and our Asian community.
01:28That is, the largest African American population in the country is in Texas.
01:33The second largest Hispanic population in the country is in Texas.
01:38But they want to silence our voice.
01:40This is nothing short of blatant racism.
01:44They're going to cry and say, no, you can't say that.
01:47In fact, they've punished us.
01:48Congressman Cockcrocket knows that.
01:50They don't allow us to say that word on the House floor.
01:54They say, you can't call us what we are.
01:57Use another word.
01:59But that is what you are and that is what you are trying to do.
02:02Hurt these working families.
02:04Trump's policies when he's kidnapping families of color in the streets, that is nothing short
02:09of racism.
02:10He is coming after all of us who don't look like him and his Republican colleagues in
02:15the Texas House.
02:16So I will now introduce beautiful Congressman Al Green, wonderful Congressman from Houston,
02:23who's going to really share a little more and enlighten a little more about the impact
02:26of these maps.
