00:00We thought we'd take advantage of Townley Hall's restoration before it opens on Friday back to the public after a couple of years being shut.
00:08So hopefully people will come and enjoy what it looks like inside which is pretty exciting stuff.
00:13We thought we'd take this chance to invite C. Douglas who's got some new singles coming out.
00:18C. Douglas grew up around here and went to school in Burnley.
00:22We thought we'd give him the opportunity to sing some songs within the hall and enjoy the surroundings.
00:28To showcase the talent that does exist in Burnley.
00:58Everyone is telling me to grow up and be a man.
01:05Won't you tell me about your five year plan?
01:13I'm just a dreamer with my head in the sand.
01:20At first I was a kid.
01:25Had the feeling I was pretty good at it.
01:29And then I was a teen.
01:33Had the feeling I was never really seen.
01:36Had the feeling I was never really seen.
01:49I kept up my insights at the start of the week.
01:55I lose all my talking points when I speak.
02:08I miss up the singles of my favorite bands.
02:15Everyone was telling me to grow up and be a man.
02:23Won't you tell me about your five year plan?
02:28Won't you tell me about your five year plan?
02:32I'm just a dreamer with my head in the sand.
02:36At first I was a kid.
02:41Had the feeling I was pretty good at it.
02:46And then I was a teen.
02:50Had the feeling I was never really seen.
02:55So tell me a bit about what it's like now to be a solo artist after the Gower Express.
03:06For those who don't know your sort of career.
03:09Yeah, yeah.
03:10So I was in a band from round here called the Gower Express for a while.
03:14Like during college and then we all went to university.
03:17And we did lots of different things across the country.
03:19But yeah, basically all met here at school in Burnley.
03:22All went to college in Burnley and then sort of migrated to Manchester.
03:25But yeah, the new project, Sea Douglas is just, it's more poppy.
03:29It's more synthesizey, more electronic-y.
03:31And yeah, my musical tastes have changed over the years.
03:34And I think this is more reflective of the sort of, yeah,
03:37of the sort of music that I listen to and want to make at the moment.
03:40And how's it been sort of being used to being in a band,
03:43but now sort of doing everything by yourself?
03:46There's pros and cons.
03:48So not having a band is obviously a con,
03:51because you have to make all the music by yourself and you can't rehearse for shows.
03:54And all this sort of stuff.
03:56But I mean, yeah, there's lots of things you can do by yourself these days.
03:59You don't really need much equipment to be able to make lots of music.
04:02So that's nice.
04:03You can basically write an album in your bedroom,
04:05and you don't have to rely on other people to be there to do it.
04:08And I think that's like a huge part.
04:10And where did you record the tracks?
04:12I recorded all of the tracks in Paris, where I live.
04:17And then the producer is Steve Coppy from Fila Brasilia.
04:21And he's based in Hull.
04:22He had like pork recordings and all this stuff.
04:24So yeah, it was a real pleasure to work with him.
04:26It was a great experience.
04:28And what's the name of the first single?
04:30At first.
04:31At first.
04:32Yeah, I think it's out on, well, this Friday,
04:34which will be probably in the past when this comes out.
04:37But yeah, yeah, very soon this Friday.
04:39And there's a second single?
04:40Second single in August.
04:41And then the physical EP comes out in September
04:45on the Golden Lion Sounds record label,
04:47which is based in Todmorden.
04:48And then, yeah, hopefully a little tour in October.
04:51Yeah.
04:52For the next few months.
04:53Okay.
04:54And do you think you'll come back and help us promote Boone 27?
04:58Yeah, absolutely.
04:59And play for us?
05:00All my ties are around here.
05:01Like all my family are around here.
05:02All my friends are around here.
05:03And yeah, it's nice to come home and see everyone.
05:05So yeah, I would imagine I'll be back and forth,
05:07back and forth all the time.
05:08That sounds good.
05:09Yeah, I mean, it's beautiful.
05:10Again, like I used to come here all the time as a kid,
05:12so it's different now playing here.
05:13But yeah, we were in the, just outside the main hall.
05:16And yeah, it was, the acoustics were amazing.
05:18It was beautiful, nice and echoey.
05:20My voice sounded nice and loud without me trying to.
05:22So yeah, it was really nice.
05:24Well, I hope that we can do more of this kind of thing in the hall,
05:27maybe have some small acoustic shows for the people of Burnley
05:30and invite talented artists such as C. Douglas here.
05:34And wouldn't it be great to have 5,000 people in a field,
05:37in Townley, looking at new music?
05:39Cool.
05:40Well, good luck with the single.
05:41Thank you very much.
05:42And I hope you get on 6 Music
05:43and I hope it's a big, roaring success
05:45and you're back here playing soon.
05:46I hope so, that would be very nice, yeah.
05:47Thank you for showing me around.
05:48It was a throwback, a nice throwback.
