The Netherlands has pledged US$578 million dollars to purchase U.S. arms for Ukraine under a new NATO weapons finance scheme. That makes it the first NATO member country to do so after U.S. President Donald Trump last month said the U.S. would resume providing arms to Ukraine and that European allies would pay for them.

00:06It's the first NATO member to do so under a new weapons financing plan.
00:11Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Breckelman made the announcement in a social media post,
00:16saying the package would include parts and missiles for US patriot defence systems.
00:21Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the decision.
00:25The Netherlands' purchase would be made through the NATO-prioritised Ukraine requirements list, or PEARL, initiative.
00:32And the US ambassador to the bloc says more like it are coming.
00:37The Dutch are just the first of many. You're going to see a series of announcements.
00:42In the coming weeks, when we announced this facility that allowed our NATO allies to buy US equipment
00:48and provide that to Ukraine for their defence, we had a lot of our allies raise their hand and line up.
00:54A lot of them are coming together in groups to pool their money and their resources together.
01:01PEARL was launched after US President Donald Trump said last month that the US would supply weapons to Ukraine
