00:00Could your love for junk food be putting your lungs at risk?
00:03A massive new study says yes, and the numbers are alarming.
00:06Researchers looked at over 100,000 people from the PLCO cancer screening trial
00:11and found that those who consumed the most ultra-processed food
00:15were 41% more likely to develop lung cancer a decade later.
00:19And we're not just talking smokers here.
00:21Even non-smokers faced a higher risk.
00:23We're talking about foods like cookies, soft drinks, instant noodles, fried snacks, and processed meats.
00:30Those with the highest intake averaged 6 servings a day, and the most common items?
00:35Lunch meats, diet sodas, and decaf soft drinks.
00:38Even when smoking and overall diet were considered, the risk remained.
00:42Scientists think it could be due to harmful additives, toxic packaging,
00:46or just pushing healthier foods off your plate.
00:49But let's be clear, this doesn't prove junk food causes lung cancer.
00:53It does, however, raise serious questions.
00:56If confirmed, it could change how we fight cancer.
00:58Not just with medicine, but with our forks.
01:01So the next time you're reaching for that hot dog or sugary snack,
01:04remember, your lungs might not thank you for it.
