On Friday, Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) posted a social media video where he spoke about President Trump's decision to fire the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics after the agency posted a weaker than expected July jobs report.
00:00So the Bureau of Labor Statistics today put out information on labor data, jobs data, a jobs report showing that the economy only produced 73,000 jobs.
00:13That's not a lot for the United States of America.
00:16And much more than that, the Bureau showed that there were less jobs created than originally thought.
00:23They revised downward the statistics from the prior two months to this month.
00:30The stock market reacted really negatively.
00:34We're over 500 points off.
00:36And they're also reacting to the crazy announcements about Trump's tariff policy.
00:42It is really an insane policy.
00:46What does Donald Trump do in the midst of all this?
00:51He fires the person who does the independent analysis at the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
00:58He fires that person.
01:00This is what happens in, say, communist China.
01:04The government does not put out really honest, true independent statistics.
01:11And, you know, business people, investors, ordinary Americans depend on independent data.
01:18But Donald Trump doesn't believe in that.
01:21He wants data that confirms what he believes and his own worldview.
01:28I don't care whether you supported Donald Trump or not, but this is not what an American president should be doing.
01:32Yeah.
01:33He wants data that says he will not be doing anything.
01:33So, we're going to be doing anything.
01:34I don't care whether or not he knows how to market it.
