US President Donald Trump demanded Thursday that the new boss of US chip maker Intel resign "immediately," after a Republican senator raised national security concerns over his links to firms in China.

In a statement issued Thursday, Lip-Bu Tan's said the company was "engaged with the Trump administration to address the concerns raised and ensure officials "have the facts."

00:42opportunities it has given him. He added that he fully shares Trump's commitment to advancing U.S.
00:47national and economic security and is proud to lead a company so central to these goals.
00:52The Malaysia-born tech industry veteran took the helm at struggling Intel in March,
00:58announcing layoffs as White House tariffs and export restrictions muddied the market.
