00:09who provided hope to millions of people.
00:13Actor Christopher Reeve captured the heart of the world with his invincible Superman.
00:19Most Americans still think of him as the Man of Steel.
00:23But in 1995, a horseback-riding accident left Christopher paralyzed from the neck down.
00:33He vowed to fight back.
00:36I will not be spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair.
00:40That is a man driven to overcome the situation he's in.
00:45Becoming a beacon of hope for Americans with spinal cord injuries.

00:54On October 10, 2004, Christopher Reeve died,
00:57with most sections of the press reporting the reason as heart failure.
01:02Having spent nearly 10 years of his life living as a quadriplegic,
