00:00U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are expected to speak in the coming days.
00:06Canada is pushing hard to lower the 35% U.S. tariff on its goods after missing the August 1 deadline to reach a deal.
00:17Canada's U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc said talks with U.S. officials had been encouraging,
00:22but a deal that benefited both economies had not been reached.
00:25He added that a possible agreement could potentially lower some tariffs and boost investor confidence.
00:31Washington had tied the tariffs partly to Canada's failure to curb fentanyl smuggling.
00:36Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada accounted just 1% of U.S. fentanyl imports and it had been working to reduce that number.
00:45He remained optimistic on Sunday, saying the talks could still lead to constructive outcome.
