U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday promised to treat Canada fairly in talks over painful U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods, but was less committed about a continental trade deal that also includes Mexico.

00:00Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney made his second visit to the White House in five months on Tuesday
00:06under increasing pressure to address U.S. tariffs on steel, autos and other goods that are hurting Canada's economy.
00:13In a meeting in the Oval Office, Trump said that he will discuss lowering tariffs on key Canadian sectors
00:19in talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as part of efforts to ease trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa.
00:26Trump also said a trade deal with Canada would be comprehensive.

00:42The Canadian Minister in charge of bilateral trade later said the two sides had made progress
00:47during what he called a successful, positive and substantive conversation with Trump
00:51while making clear any potential deals were not closed.

01:16this could be also a little bit of a conflict with other countries all over the world on steel
01:20because we want to make our own steel, we don't want to bring steel in for the most part
01:24but we will bring it in and we do bring it in, we continue to bring it in from Canada
01:29but there is a tariff to pay.
