Alan Pattullo gives reaction from Dens Park as hosts Dundee fall to a tame 2-1 defeat to Hibs in Steven Pressley's first league match in charge
Transcript
00:00Hello this is Alan Patullo, Scotsman football writer from Denz Park on the
00:09opening weekend of the Premiership season. Dundee have fallen to a 2-1 defeat to
00:15Hibs who certainly made light of their midweek excursions, European
00:22excursions, to win 2-1 here at Denz. Pretty straightforward
00:29fashion has to be said. A couple of goals from Kieran Bowie who certainly looks the
00:33part as a big swashbuckling number nine. Steve Clarke, take note, managed to get
00:40Hibs into a commanding position within half an hour. Dundee did respond with a
00:48goal from Finn Robertson, their homegrown number 10. His first league goal for the
00:55club actually in his eighth season as a professional. It's taken him a while but
01:01it was a decent strike in front of the 3,000 Hibs fans in the away end but
01:07they had no reason to fear. Dundee barely mustered another shot on target as Hibs
01:15prepared for their further European assignment against Partizan Belgrade this
01:22Thursday. They managed to stay out the game in fairly straightforward fashion. No
01:32fresh injuries to report by David Gray. He was happy to confirm that afterwards. So
01:40they look in a pretty good fetal while Dundee not such good news. Steven
01:48Presley reiterated the fact that he does need reinforcements. Five or six players he hopes
01:56will come in and I think this will help him in that bid because anyone watching this will have had
02:06it underlined to them that Dundee's options or Presley's options look pretty
02:13meagre at present. Obviously not held by an injury to a talisman striker Simon
02:18Murray. So we'll see what happens in the coming weeks in terms of incoming players
02:22at Dens. They head or Dundee head to Ibrox next Sunday or next Saturday night
02:27sorry for another difficult assignment. It doesn't get any easier for Steven Presley who tried to put a
02:39positive spin on things afterwards by saying he saw some green shoots in terms of their defensive
02:46and solidity. It was when his team had the ball that things looked slightly worrying. There was not much
02:56going on in terms of offensive play at all which given their swashbuckling nature of last season
03:03was I think quite hard for their fans to accept. Anyway I've just filed a report on scotsman.com
03:12and there's some quotes from David Gray and Steven Presley there as well.
