00:01Once again, U.S. President Donald Trump is tightening his grip on American economic policy and institutions.
00:08Hours after a report published on Friday showed job growth in the U.S. was lower than expected,
00:14Trump fired the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner.
00:17Only 73,000 jobs were added to the American economy in July,
00:21rather than the 110,000 expected by analysts.
00:24We're doing so well. I believe the numbers were phony, just like they were before the election.
00:32And there were other times. So you know what I did? I fired her. And you know what? I did the right thing.
00:37On Truth Social, Trump accused Labor Statistics Commissioner Erica McIntyrefer of manipulating statistics to make the Republicans look bad, without providing evidence.
00:48Nominated by Joe Biden in 2023, McIntyrefer was confirmed for her role by the Senate with overwhelming approval from both Republicans and Democrats.
00:58Left-wing Senator Bernie Sanders called out McIntyrefer's sacking on social media.
01:04In America, you do not fire the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics for releasing a job support that you don't like.
01:10That's what authoritarians do.
01:12We need serious economists in these positions, not hacks who will only tell you what you want to hear.
01:19During the search for a replacement, Deputy Commissioner William Vyotrovsky will serve as the acting head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
