00:00Stacy Chapin is sharing the range of emotions she's feeling after the killer in the University of Idaho murders was sent to prison.
00:07The mom of Ethan Chapin, who was fatally stabbed in November 2022 alongside Kaylee Gonsalves, Madison Mogan, and Zaina Conurdle,
00:14was absent from the July 23rd sentencing when Brian Koberger was sentenced to life in prison.
00:19Skipping the trial was a choice she and her family made over two years ago,
00:23and Stacy told Today that attending is energy that doesn't feel like it's well spent.
00:27However, now that the case has concluded, she is speaking out reflecting on the last few years.
00:32She wrote on Instagram July 31st,
00:35We've given a lot of thought to what we should say since 7-23 and have edited this a million times.
00:40The entire situation has been a tough pill to swallow, but at the end of the day, we believe the outcome is the right one.
00:45She also penned a message directly to Ethan, sharing a heartbreaking tribute to her son taken far too soon.
00:51She wrote,
00:51Thank you, Ethan. You were only with us for 20 years, but you touched the lives of so many people.
00:56From the time you were a baby to when we dropped you off at college,
00:59you were an absolute joy in the glue that held our family together.
01:02Stacy, who also acknowledged that her and Jim Chapin's children, Maisie and Hunter,
01:06graduated this past May without their triplet brother, continued,
01:09We remember your smile, your laugh, how you kept us in check,
01:13and the many ways you brought happiness and light to any situation.
01:16There will never be another you.
01:17There would never have been enough time with you.
01:19We love you, miss you, and promise to continue honoring your legacy.
01:23She also thanked the community for their support in the aftermath of the murders,
01:27saying the Moscow Police Department, FBI, and more investigators worked tirelessly on this case
01:32and spent time away from their loved ones.
01:34The matriarch went on to share her gratitude for the University of Idaho as well as prosecutors,
01:39who she said openly communicated with transparency, answered every call and email,
01:43and were fantastic throughout this process.
