00:11at Heathrow Airport, detailed plans have now been submitted. Heathrow claims the runway will be
00:19operational within a decade. The airport also wants to create new terminal capacity for 150
00:28million annual passengers, up from 84 million currently. This would involve a new terminal
00:35complex, extending Terminal 2 and demolishing Terminal 3 and the old Terminal 1. The project
00:44would enable an additional 276,000 flights per year, bringing the total from 480,000 today to
00:53756,000. The M25 motorway would need to be moved into a tunnel under the new runway. Heathrow said
01:02its runway and airfield plan would be privately funded at a cost of £21 billion. It attributed
01:10the increase from its original estimate of £14 billion in 2018 to construction inflation. But
01:17the total plan, including terminals and supporting infrastructure, would be expected to cost £49
01:25billion. The Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, said he still remains opposed to a third runway because of
01:33the severe impacts it will have in terms of noise, air pollution and meeting our climate targets.
