The mistake is having a low Ad Quality Score. Google scores your Ads on three different parameters - The quality of your ads, the quality of your Ad copy, and the quality of your landing page.

For instance, if your landing page is not related to your Ads, then Google will give you a low quality score, and you will end up paying a fortune per click. This is because Google wants to show the best Ads, so they will penalize Ads with low quality scores by charging them more.

A quality score of over 5 is excellent, but anything between 1 and 4 is considered a low score, and you should work on your Ads to increase the quality score. To check your quality score, search keywords in the overview section. Getting a 10/10 quality score is not impossible, but it can be time-consuming.
