Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is setting the tone early in camp—he wants a fast, physical defense. Eberflus emphasized aggressive tackling, swarming to the football, and setting a relentless tempo as the identity of this year’s unit.

With a mix of veterans and young talent, Eberflus is pushing for toughness and discipline as the Cowboys aim to return to being one of the league’s top defenses.

00:00The helmets were all in the intensity with us at the Dallas Cowboys training camp as we join them for another day in Oxnard, California.
00:11On the defensive side of the ball, the main objective is to be physical.
00:14In conjunction with head coach Brian Schottenheimer's coaching philosophy, coach Matt Eberfaluz has one question in mind when it comes to defense.
00:22How can you maximize your body to create leverage, power, and strike?
00:25And that is done through technique and desire.
00:28Now the players, they embodied that to the fullest.
00:30As we saw the competition and the dynamic that a little heated during practice, it echoed and added on to what wide receiver CeeDee Lamb said at the beginning of camp, saying we need to learn how to practice.
00:42Lamb reiterated his concern during the press conference, applauding coach Schottenheimer for his disciplinary actions, saying we need discipline.
00:49And I love what coach Schottenheimer is doing because we need to stay on that line.
00:52Now the question is for the Cowboys, what is it going to take to find the common ground between physicality and discipline?
00:58For all things Cowboys, tune in to Spectrum Cable, Channel 15, Wednesdays and Thursday nights at 11 p.m.
01:03I'm Faith Knight, and you've just been credentialed.
