Hello with your national weather forecast as we have a look at the weather for tomorrow. That's
00:03
Thursday the 31st of July. First a look at the synoptic map and we can see a low pressure system
00:09
and trough over the Tasman Sea that's pushing rain and showers onto the New South Wales coast.
00:14
Sea service temperatures off the coast of New South Wales are relatively warm so that's
00:18
providing a little bit of an extra moisture boost. Showers also for inland parts of South
00:22
Australia and the Northern Territory and then into the afternoon and evening we'll see a few
00:27
showers developing across northern inland parts of New South Wales as well as northwest Queensland and
00:32
the northern Queensland tropics as well. But elsewhere we are under the influence of quite
00:36
a stubborn high pressure system that is extending its influence down towards the southeast of the
00:41
country. So Tasmania and Victoria will see a little bit more settled conditions as we head into Thursday
00:46
and settled also across the west but that will finally get a bit of a move on as we head into
00:50
Friday and that will allow for the next cold front to move up over Western Australia towards the weekend.
00:56
So now it's state by state look starting off in Queensland. Cool in the morning with patchy frost
01:01
but we are expecting a sunny day to follow across the southeast of the state. Cloud will build through
01:05
the southern interior though and this is a slight chance of a very light shower close to the New
01:09
South Wales border. Cloud will also thicken across the northwest of the state. A few showers are
01:14
possible between Mutt Island and down towards Longreach. Showers also for the Cairns Tropical Coast
01:19
and the Adleton Tablelands. Those showers will become more widespread and extend down the coast as we head
01:24
into Friday. Temperatures a little bit cooler and average under cloud cover in the west. Warm across
01:29
the north and the Cape York Peninsula. In Brisbane mostly sunny at the top of 21 degrees. Possible shower
01:35
in Cairns with 29. In New South Wales, rain and showers continue to stream onto the coast as well as
01:41
gusty winds. We could see moderate rainfall totals for Illawarra, Sydney and also the Hunter. But into the
01:47
afternoon and evening, that rain will gradually ease back towards showers. Showers also increasing for the north of the
01:54
about Ivanhoe with a few millimeters possible from the afternoon. Otherwise, it will be quite a cool
01:58
day again with maximum temperatures generally below average. Sydney showers and rain at the top of 16
02:04
degrees. 12 degrees in Canberra and we'll see a few snow flurries above about a thousand meters across
02:09
the snowy mountains. Now to Victoria. Patchy fog and frost south of the divide in the morning. We are
02:15
expecting a dry day for most of the state. The exception being through Gippsland with a few showers pushing
02:20
through. We could see a few showers pushing to Melbourne and the northeast of the state into the afternoon.
02:24
Snow is possible above about a thousand meters. In Melbourne, a cold start with just five degrees. A slight
02:30
chance of a shower with a top of 14. One better in Mildura. Sunny with a top of 15.
02:34
For Tasmania, we will see a cold start with many locations dipping below zero degrees through the
02:40
inland and we will see a bit of fog but the cloud will stick around across the south and miss a slight chance of a shower near the coast.
02:46
Be a drier day across the north of the state. For Hobart, cloudy. Very slight chance of a shower with
02:52
12 degrees. Two better in Launceston with a top of 14. In South Australia now, cool in the morning in the
02:59
southeast of the state with patchy fog and also frost. You can see a few showers along the coast but
03:03
not expecting too much in the way of rainfall. Just a few showers are possible for Kangaroo Island and the
03:08
west coast of the Eyre Peninsula. But into the afternoon, we will see showers building across northern
03:13
interior parts of South Australia and for areas north about Woomera, these are typically arid parts
03:18
of the state. So far this month, they have seen above average rainfall. We could see another two to five
03:23
millimeters for those areas but cool conditions 15 or 16 degrees, 15 also in Adelaide after a cool
03:29
morning. For Western Australia, we will see patchy fog and frost again across the southwest land division
03:35
but that will clear to a mostly dry day. Just a few showers about the south coast and also the far
03:40
southwest of the state. Perth, a cool start to five degrees. Top of 20 will be the warmest day in more
03:45
than two weeks and we will see warmer temperatures for the Gascoigne and also up into the Pilbara.
03:51
Finally, for northern Australia, cold in the interior dropping down to zero degrees. A few showers for
03:56
the Barclay and up towards Tennant Creek and also a few showers for the top end but we are looking at a
04:01
partly cloudy day in Darwin, the top of 32. And for Broome and Port Hedland, it'll be your warmest day in more
04:06
than one week. That's your forecast for today. Stay up to date with the latest information and warnings
