Cold front pushing rain across the nation for the next week of July 2026.
Transcript
00:00Hello it's Angus here at the Bureau of Meteorology, this is the National Weather Forecast.
00:03We're going to dive in and take a look at the weather this weekend, that'll be the 4th and 5th
00:08of July
00:08and all that wet, windy, slightly nasty weather from the week is clearing up.
00:13Our succession of cold fronts and powerful weather systems down here moving into the Tasman Sea and over Australia.
00:20It's this high pressure which becomes the dominant pattern coast to coast this weekend.
00:24A little bit of rainfall across Australia's interior but away from that it will be fairly dry.
00:30Let's fly around the states for Saturdays, forecast starting up in Queensland, a lovely crisp winter's day here,
00:36some quite fresh morning temperatures and then a clear sunny afternoon.
00:40We're tracking towards 23 degrees in Brisbane for the high, 23 to 28 across the east coast,
00:46a few showers possible north of Townsville, dry everywhere else.
00:50New South Wales also seeing a lovely clear winter's day, for the most part it will be sunny across the
00:56east coast,
00:56a high of 19 in Sydney, a little bit cloudier through southern and inland parts of the state,
01:01including down here around Canberra, a mixture of sunshine and cloud with 13 degrees
01:05and certainly some cloud as we head across the Riverina and the lower western.
01:09Most temperatures though within a couple of degrees of their seasonal average for both the daily high
01:14and the overnight low.
01:16A little southwest wind will drift across Victoria tomorrow.
01:20That will push a few relatively light showers on and south of the mountain ranges,
01:25including maybe for Melbourne, parts of southern Gippsland, out towards the Otways and the southwest coast.
01:30Rainfall in those areas will just be low, just another one to three millimetres.
01:34But after such a wet week, that could be enough to keep the soil pretty squelchy and soft underfoot.
01:39Northern parts of the state will be dry but fairly cloudy and those temperatures are near average.
01:45Quite a strong wind across Tasmania on Saturday.
01:48That'll pick up some showers and blow them onto western areas too.
01:52Queenstown down to the far south here.
01:54Hobart actually picking up some morning showers.
01:56Should clear up and become fairly bright for the afternoon, but just a high of 10 degrees.
02:00That wind has really got some bites to it.
02:02And northern and northeastern spots, including Launceston, dry but still feeling rather chilly
02:07between 9 and 12 degrees.
02:10And it's not often that we say that people in South Australia will be sick of the rainfall,
02:14but that's probably the case after what has been a wet week so far.
02:18So good news there, some dry conditions heading in for this weekend.
02:21It will be quite cloudy across the state.
02:24And in terms of wet weather, maybe just a little bit.
02:26Some drizzle across the peninsulas, the Eyre Peninsula, the York and the Fleurieu peninsulas,
02:31King Island and perhaps the Mount Lofty Ranges could pick up just the slightest bit of rain.
02:36And then Adelaide looking good for a dry day, but a high of 15.
02:40Out towards western Australia, we've got fine conditions, but quite cloudy conditions
02:45across the southern half of the state, all the way from the South Australia border
02:48out towards the west coast.
02:50Perth, a mixture of sunshine and cloud, headed towards 20 degrees as the high.
02:54If you do live out west and you're north of Perth, let's say about Lancelin northwards,
02:59then there shouldn't be much cloud to contend with, just bright blue skies and sunshine.
03:03And finally, we look at northern Australia.
03:06Now this is where we're seeing some of that unseasonal rainfall, is out over the southern
03:09NT tomorrow, including the likes of Alice Springs and Uluru.
03:13That could cause a bit of disruption, could close a few outback roads and just create some
03:17general muddiness over Australia's outback.
03:20From Tennant Creek northwards, much drier conditions are expected.
03:23Lovely weekend up in Darwin, a high of 32 degrees there for Saturday.
03:28And a quick look at Sunday as well, since we are headed into the weekend.
03:31Primarily fine weather across Australia, but each coastline has something to be aware of.
03:36So, some showers across the New South Wales coast, including for Sydney, as well as some
03:40very large waves, so take care near the coastline.
03:44Pretty fine conditions across the rest of the southeast, but still quite cool and cloudy.
03:48Relatively clear across northern Australia.
03:50Meanwhile, in the southwest, the next cold front arrives, and that one will be moving
03:54onto the Perth region towards the afternoon or evening hours.
03:58So a damp finish to the weekend there, after plenty of sunshine before that.
04:02You can find weather info and observations and forecasts on the Bureau's website and app.
04:07But thank you so much for watching today.
