00:00Seven Patriots training camp at Gillette Stadium.
00:03We've been brought to you throughout training camp, thank you,
00:06by McFarlane Energy, the heating, cooling, and bioheat delivery pros
00:10that Eastern Mass and all of Cape Cod depend on at McFarlaneEnergy.com.
00:17Red Sox pregame comes your way less than 10 minutes from now, 1210.
00:22Joe Weil will get you game ready, leading you up to the Red Sox and Twins.
00:25First pitch, a little after 1 o'clock here on your flagship station
00:29for the Red Sox, WEI, team huddling up here again
00:32as they're still wrapping things up on day seven,
00:34going a little longer than we expected here today, Keefe.
00:36It's a walkthrough tomorrow.
00:38They're going to go in the stadium on Friday night for season ticket holders,
00:42which should be another walkthrough environment.
00:44So lighter practices, the pads come off today,
00:47and Will Campbell has a more pedestrian day than he had yesterday.
00:50How much should we read into that?
00:52Luckily, they play the games in pads.
00:54Maybe he's better in pads.
00:55I don't know.
00:55I feel like this is going to be kind of the ride of a rookie offensive lineman
01:00where there's going to be good days, bad days.
01:03And even two days ago, the first day in full pads was a little bit of both.
01:06Depending on what drills you were watching,
01:09he had a couple times where Keon White got the best of them,
01:12and then there were times where he kind of figured it out.
01:14And then the next day, it felt like he got the better of Keon White.
01:18And now today, I think it is a little bit different,
01:21especially for the defensive and offensive line when you're not in full pads.
01:25But even still, you're grading it on what you're grading it on.
01:28This is what they're doing.
01:29And he wasn't great.
01:31So, all right, these are all kind of like learning moments, building block moments.
01:35Next week, it'll ramp up even more when you're facing another team,
01:39and then when you're facing – and then when you play in the game a week from Friday.
01:43So all that stuff going forward.
01:45I look at it like it has been a mixed bag, which is exactly that, right?
01:49It's not, oh, it's been a disaster for three days.
01:51It's also not, oh, my God, he's destroying everybody.
01:54Put him in the Hall of Fame.
01:55No, no, no.
01:55Disaster would definitely be too strong.
01:57I mean, that's for sure.
01:58It's not that.
01:59So it is sort of a, all right, let's see what this guy's going to have.
02:02I don't – I think there's – I don't know how many people expected him
02:05just to show up and dominate the NFL right off the rip.
02:08Like, there were questions about him.
02:10How about block Caleb on Jason?
02:11I did kind of expect that.
02:13That's one I kind of expected.
02:14But also, nobody's blocked Caleb on Jason, as it turns out.
02:18Right, but what is that?
02:18Most of the league has in his career.
02:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:20So what does that mean for your own line?
02:22It means that this guy's figured it out.
02:23No, it means the offensive line, which going into the year,
02:25we thought was the worst position group on the roster, is that.
02:30You know, they were kind of neck and neck with wide receiver going in.
02:34And Steph Diggs has had a couple of good days, a couple of quiet days.
02:37But Steph Diggs has at least given you, here's a high-end guy in that position group.
02:42And then there's been flashes from some of the others.
02:45Kayshawn Booty's been pretty consistent.
02:46Kyle Williams has been here and there.
02:48Had another really nice play today.
02:49Kyle Williams did, which he needed.
02:51You did a great job highlighting that in real time.
02:53Like, that's kind of the buzziest play, I think, from training camp today.
02:56I think it was DJ James, whose name has popped a little bit.
02:59Yeah, yeah.
02:59Booty's even asked about him earlier today.
03:02I think that was DJ James that he beat on that play.
03:04So that's a guy who's been playing well is the only reason, I mean, to say it.
03:07It wasn't – I mean, it sounds like a guy who was shot at making the roster.
03:10That was a good throw by May.
03:12It was.
03:13Hitting Kyle Williams.
03:14That was probably the most noteworthy play out there today.
03:15I think it's a work in progress, though, when it comes to Will Campbell.
03:19You know, it was such a need that I feel like, despite what they might say about it,
03:25they were like, oh, we took the best player.
03:27It's like, well, I feel like you did draft for need, right?
03:29You sort of backed yourself into a corner.
03:31You didn't really address it.
03:32You certainly didn't address the left side in free agency.
03:34Nope.
03:34You did add Morgan Moses, who also hasn't looked great either in camp.
03:39And so that's two different ends of the spectrum.
03:40You have one – what is Moses like?
03:42A 10-year veteran?
03:43Yeah, maybe even longer than that.
03:45He's 36 or whatever he is?
03:46Yeah, maybe longer.
03:47Maybe a 12-year veteran.
03:48And then you have one guy that's been here less than 10 minutes,
03:50and they both have had issues with Caleb Vaughn, Chasen, Keon White,
03:54and some of the defensive guys for the Pats.
03:56Morgan Moses, I'm looking it up.
03:58He's been in the game a long time.
03:59He was a third-round pick in 2014.
04:01So what is this, year 11 for Morgan Moses?
04:04Yeah, maybe.
04:04Quick math.
04:0511 or 12.
04:05Not great at that.
04:07But anyway, just kind of recapping Will Campbell's day.
04:11Campbell today started off in the one-on-ones.
04:14Good and bad, Keith.
04:15He did beat Keon White, who he struggled with before.
04:18Yeah, he started to figure him out, maybe.
04:20He also lost a rep to Braden Swinson,
04:22who is a rookie fifth-round pick, fourth-round pick.
04:25Yeah, that was his teammate, right?
04:26Correct.
04:27That was his teammate at LSU.
04:28They played at LSU together.
04:29So maybe that's a guy who knows his moves.
04:30Yeah, he's got them.
04:31Knows his tricks.
04:32Knows how to get in his bag a little bit.
04:35Caleb Vaughn, Chasen beat up Will Campbell in 11-on-11 early.
04:39He had at least two sacks and another pressure.
04:41That's according to Mark Daniels.
04:43There's a lot of this.
04:44GRD, Caleb Vaughn, Chasen won three times in five reps.
04:47Would a sack strike may or hit him on all of those?
04:50Andrew Callahan, Chasen tallied two sacks and a pressure in a four-play stretch.
04:54He's been the undisputed breakout star of camp.
04:57He did say bad news.
04:58Both those sacks came at Will Campbell's expense.
05:01Callahan also has good numbers on Drake May that are now, it looks like, final.
05:08I think they're done with their 11-on-11s and everything else.
05:10May, 10 for 13, took three sacks, two completions, 10-plus yards.
05:14The play of the day is the one we just detailed.
05:15May throwing Kyle Williams open in the end zone, beating DJ James.
05:20Diggs had a team-high three catches from May in 11-on-11s.
05:23Diggs, I feel like Diggs was more noticeable the first couple days, Keith.
05:27I have not noticed Diggs as much early on, May looking for him as much.
05:33So I don't know what that means.
05:34Maybe he's just, you know, still working his way back through his injury.
05:38Maybe they're mixing in other guys.
05:39Like, I don't necessarily know what it means, but I would say Diggs is more noticeable
05:41the first couple of days here in camp.
05:44But Callahan says, tough day for Will Campbell again.
05:47You know who Will Campbell's talking to right now?
05:49Who is he talking to right now?
05:50Don't tell me it's Ted.
05:51Robert Kraft.
05:52Ooh, Kraft, okay.
05:53Yeah, Robert Kraft.
05:53I was talking to Wilson.
05:54Mike Vrabel stopped by to say something to him quick.
05:56Robert Kraft walked over.
05:57And this is why you have the binocs, because otherwise I would have been like,
06:00I had no idea.
06:01There's humans walking around out there.
06:03But yeah, Will Campbell talked to Robert Kraft for a moment.
06:05Now Kraft has moved on to a different group of players.
06:08It looks like he's walking on the practice field.
06:10But I choose to spin the Steph Diggs thing positive, just the way Mike Vrabel has sort
06:14of utilized all of his veteran guys.
06:16I think Steph Diggs, the first couple of days, proved that he's healthy, proved that he
06:20could pick it up.
06:21They went to him.
06:22I would agree with that.
06:23And now the rest of that position group is really up for debate.
06:27I mean, Pop Douglas probably is your number two, but I think there's a real competition
06:31as far as like who makes the roster.
06:32There's a competition on who's going to be on the field.
06:34So not that like, hey, all set here, Steph Diggs, you don't need to make any more plays.
06:38But it's like, I think we know what you have in him.
06:41Just like you don't see Carlton Davis every day.
06:42You don't see Morgan Moses every day.
06:44You didn't see Harold Landry at all today.
06:45So I think it's almost like a checkmark.
06:47Like, all right, we're good with Steph Diggs.
06:49Let's see.
06:49Let the other guys kind of battle it out.
06:52No, I think that's fair.
06:53Like, I haven't noticed him as much, but his overall health being out.
06:57I mean, he hasn't missed any reps.
06:58He hasn't been managed like you just said, like Moses, like Landry, like they're doing maybe
07:03even with a guy like Carlton Davis, some of the other vets on this roster as well.
