00:00Tis the season of the Summerfest. God bless us everyone. Here's hoping that Jeremy Piven
00:06visits you in the night and leaves something nice under your pillow, and that's the worst
00:10sentence anyone's ever said. We're on the road to SummerSlam, which is widely regarded
00:14as WWE's number 2 show of the year, and speaking of number 2, oh boy there have been
00:19some turds in the pool at the biggest party of the summer. We'll do a top 10 best matches
00:23in SummerSlam history, don't worry, but WWE released Bray Wyatt last week, so you know,
00:28f**k em. Time to put the boots to the big dub and their stupid habit of doing stupid things
00:33in the stupid summer time. Everything's bad, everyone's terrible, everything you love will
00:37one day crumble to ash, nothing matters, let's do this. I'm Adam Haling from Parts Fun known
00:42here at the 20 worst matches in SummerSlam history.
00:45Spoiler, Team WWE vs Team Nexus isn't on the list. I know, right? Because the match itself
00:51actually kind of rules. It's just an atrocious bit of booking. If you disagree with that,
00:55let me know in the comments, and hey, why not let us know your most hated
00:58SummerSlam match, and make sure you subscribe, because please, please, please do it.
01:0820. Kofi Kingston vs Randy Orton 2019 Oh man, everyone really wanted Kofi's WWE
01:14Championship run to be good. Every month we'd think, maybe this is the one, this is the match,
01:18please Kofi, please stop feuding with Dolph. The feud going into this match was solid, built
01:22on an infamous moment of wrestling, quotes, getting real and legit backstage heat. Unfortunately,
01:27the match is real boring, glacially placed, thanks Randall, and ends the chants of bullsh**t
01:31and the two men get counted out because I guess Randy couldn't stop looking at Kofi's kids?
01:37That's weird. And exactly a year on from AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe ending in a sh**ty leave
01:42my family alone non-finish as well.
01:4521. Shane McMahon vs Eric Bischoff 2003 Always a treat when Eric Bischoff wrestles in
01:51his silly little karate outfit. The man was a fantastic GM, a serviceable dad, but any time
01:55he competed in the ring it was the dog worst. Be it Starrcade 97, Survivor Series 2005 or SummerSlam
02:012003. We all know Shane can go, I mean not now, he's a thumb now, but back then, with the right
02:07wrestler? Sure, Eric Bischoff is not that guy, and what starts out as boring gets downright
02:11unwatchable when Coach heals it up and does solo commentary for it. The Austin comeuppance
02:15is at least a bit fun, but it is a long road to get there.
02:1918. Dean Ambrose vs Dolph Ziggler 2016 When the brand split happened in 2016,
02:25hopes were high for Smackdown. They made a huge deal out of Dean Ambrose taking the WWE title to
02:30the blue brand and marketed the show as the land of opportunity, confirmed when Dolph Ziggler,
02:34the patron saint of missed opportunities, won the right to face Ambrose at SummerSlam. This should
02:39have ruled, but instead the two wrestled a disconnected, storyless, intensely boring match.
02:44Can anyone remember one moment from this match? This match for the WWE Championship at the second
02:50biggest show of the year? Because that's damning.
02:5217. Edge vs Matt Hardy 2005
02:56WWE have a habit of instead of striking while the iron is hot, letting the iron cool on the
03:00windowsill, forgetting they put it there overnight, and then pissing on the iron. Going into SummerSlam
03:042005, the Edge Matt Hardy feud might have been the legit hottest thing in wrestling at the
03:09time. It was a blood feud, soaked in work-shoot hatred. Their match at SummerSlam was super hyped,
03:14but instead it ended by having returning hero Matt Hardy lose in 4 minutes by technical knockout to
03:20enormous boos, shelving the proper match until Unforgiven an entire month later. Don't get
03:26excited about anything ever.
03:2716. The Oddities vs Kyentai 1998
03:31SummerSlam 98, the most bought SummerSlam ever, but not one single ticket or PPV order was made for this
03:37giant waste of time. To be fair, your appreciation of this match is going to depend on how much you
03:40enjoy Kurgan dancing, because he does it a whole bunch. It's a 10 minute match of three large men
03:47who can barely walk, embarrassing some legitimately great Japanese light heavyweight, with Golga pinning
03:52all four lads by himself. A comedy squash that somehow went 10 excruciating minutes, but hey,
03:58at least we got to see shaggy, too dope and violent Jay. I don't miss the 90s.
04:0315. Randy Savage vs Dusty Road 1990
04:07Not so much on the list for what it was, although what it was was also bad, but for what it could
04:11have been. Former WWF champion and ultra-charismatic super worker, macho man Randy Savage vs ultra-charismatic
04:20former NWA champion Dusty Road. Icons of their respective territories meeting at SummerSlam in
04:26a match that went 2 minutes, 15 seconds, and was interrupted by an angle whereby Ted DiBiase purchased
04:33Sapphire, Dusty's sort of manager friend lady. Then the match began. After 2 minutes,
04:38Savage hit Dusty with a purse, and that's a lot. Dusty wore polka dots, but then you already knew that.
04:4314. The Cat vs Terry Runnels 2000
04:47Wow. Prior to the women's revolution of 2015, women's wrestling at SummerSlam was not a thing.
04:53Seriously, Bull Nakano vs Alundra Blaze was decent in 1994. Then there wouldn't be another good women's
04:58match until Stephanie McMahon vs Brie Bella 20 years later. That is saying something. In fact,
05:05throughout the entire decade of the 2000s, there was only one women's singles match at the biggest
05:10party of the summer. Terry Runnels vs The Cat in a stink face match, aka the first lady to rub her
05:15entire butthole in the other's face wins. The match is a mess of slaps, stumbles and Jerry Lawler
05:21before the cat knocks out Terry with head and then⦠wins. WINS.
05:2713. Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior vs Sgt Slaughter, Colonel Mustafa and General Adnan
05:321991. After the dreadful WrestleMania 7 main event, WWE doubled down by having Warrior and Hogan team up
05:39against not one, not two, but three old ass men in the name of sports entertainment. Adnan couldn't go,
05:45the Iron Sheik in disguise couldn't go, so Sgt Slaughter was the agile one for the team and great
05:51googly moogly Luke Owen's hair grows faster than the pace of this awful match that went 12 but felt 40.
05:57It was also refereed by Sid Justice, the only way that added to the story was that Sid occasionally got
06:01in the way. Lots of fun but hey, it's not the worst tag match in SummerSlam history. That would be
06:05great. 12. The Brothers of Destruction vs DDP and Canyon, 2001
06:10In 2001, the song of the summer was entitled F*** You DDP. One of the most enduring,
06:15lovable babyfaces as well as actual good dude humans in WCW history was made into a stalker,
06:21destroyed by Taker at King of the Ring, pinned by Taker's wife on Raw and squashed into Neutrons at
06:25Summerslam in a how-to guide for how to kill someone's brand. It manages to be insulting and boring,
06:31Taker and Kane making the destruction slow and painful. It's such a lifeless drubbing that after
06:37the match, Heyman on commentary starts to spin something positive out of it, saying,
06:41The Alliance? Ah, forget it. Hell, you said it, Paul.
06:4411. Lex Luger vs Yokozuna, 1993
06:48Quite possibly the dumbest produced match in WWE history. A match made infamous by backstage politics
06:54and laughable presentation. Hulk Hogan won the big belt at WrestleMania 9, refused to drop it to
06:58Brett at Summerslam, dropped it to Yoko instead and left the company. Vince then tried to build
07:02Lex Luger as an off-brand, non-union, legally distinct Hulkster replacement but got cold feet
07:07on crowning him at Summerslam, instead booking Lex to beat Yokozuna by count-out instead, only to then
07:13go on to celebrate with a full-on f***ing in-ring parade despite not winning the title. Can someone
07:19please tell him? Please tell him he hasn't won the title. Does he know? Does he know? The match was
07:25slow-ass garbage as well. If Bret Hart couldn't get a good match out of Yokozuna, Lex Luger sure as
07:29hell wasn't going to. 10. Kane vs Bray Wyatt, 2013
07:33That stings a hell of a lot more now, doesn't it? Bray Wyatt has been one of the best characters in
07:38WWE in the last 10 years. Seriously, f*** them. But even that doesn't change the fact that his debut
07:45match was a flame-grilled turkey. Wyatt vs Kane in an Inferno match, sorry, Ring of Fire match,
07:51sounds like a dream on paper, but oh no, it was really boring. The whole thing took place under
07:57weird pink lighting. Bray and Kane had weird anti-chemistry bumping into each other and
08:02fumbling a bunch of spots and even the occasional pyroblast couldn't elevate it. It's a bad start
08:06for who would become possibly the most mishandled wrestler of all time.
08:109. Nails vs Virgil, 1992
08:13Oh Nails, you're⦠what⦠what are you? He turned up in WWE looking for revenge against a
08:19big boss man who apparently abused him in prison, had a digitally modulated voice that made him
08:23sound like the claw from Inspector Gadget before getting fired for choking Vince McMahon over
08:27his payout to this match, which is one of SummerSlam's all-time worst matches. Nails was a very
08:32bad wrestler, you see. He has precisely one move, which is choking someone. He chokes Virgil,
08:37who's cosplaying his toothpaste for some reason. Then he chokes him again. Then, just for some variety,
08:41he goes for a choke. Even the rabid UK crowd at Wembley couldn't get into this.
08:468. Jinder Mahal vs Shinsuke Nakamura, 2017
08:50WWE had the chance to take their WWE Championship, take it off an enhancement talent that had repeatedly
08:56proved incapable of having main event quality matches, and instead strapping it to a superstar
09:00who'd been having main event quality matches for a decade, who'd just pinned John Cena clean.
09:05Instead, Sing Interference, Kalass, Jinder wins. Handing Nakis' first main roster loss. The match is
09:11really, really boring. Jinder's got six moves. Punch, Kick, Rest Hold, Sing Interference, Kalass,
09:19and a different Rest Hold. Even Nakamura seems to be sleeping through it. It just
09:25f***ing sucked. 7. Steve Austin vs Owen Hart, 1997
09:29An uncomfortable watch. The first half of the match was good, because Owen Hart's really great.
09:34Austin was a superstar on the rise, and when the two met in a Kiss My Ass match for the IC title at SummerSlam,
09:39hopes were high. But then Owen dropped Austin with a botched sit-out tombstone, compressed the
09:44rattlesnake's neck, and briefly paralysed him. Then the match, terrifyingly, both stopped and continued.
09:50They didn't ring the bell, because then the man with the broken neck would have to kiss
09:54Owen Hart's ass. Instead, they stall, horribly, scarily, until Austin's just mobile enough to give
10:01Owen the worst roll-up in history. 6. The Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez, 1993
10:09Cryptid Chris with a big bad fist has had some bobbins matches at SummerSlam. Some
10:13merry bobbins matches. I'm sure a whole bunch of you expected me to put Taker vs Taker from SummerSlam
10:1894 on the list, and that's pretty boring, but the hokey panto bollocks just about pulls it through.
10:24This, on the other hand, Taker's still being shackled to a feud with this weird skinned
10:29Bigfoot motherfucker. It sucks. Punches, slow walking and bad-selling the musical. Thank God
10:35at least the Deadman decisively won so we could all put Double G behind us.
10:395. Big Cass vs Big Show 2017 How humiliating. The Big Cass vs Enzo feud
10:46was one of the worst feuds of 2017, with WWE splitting up yet another tag team, only for them
10:51to barely feud and neither man getting over. First Big Cass demolished Enzo at Great Balls of Fire,
10:56then Enzo called in a bigger friend to fight instead, classic babyface, and Cass wrestled
11:01Show at SummerSlam, with Enzo suspended in a shark cage for no other reason than apparently Enzo was
11:06scared of heights, so f**k him. The match sucked, with the crowd deathly silent throughout, and then
11:12the one spot of the match, Enzo taking ages to escape the cage and get into the ring, ended with
11:17him immediately kicked and knocked out. Like the match itself, what was the f**king point? Big
11:22Show's worst SummerSlam match since the one in 2010 where he beat the Straight Edge Society all by
11:26himself. That match was also terrible. I've had to watch a load of really bad SummerSlam matches for
11:31this. 4. Triple H vs Eugene 2004 In 2005, Kurt Angle wrestled Eugene stiff
11:38as a brick and it was an uncomfortable watch, but at least it was 4 minutes. In 2004, Eugene wrestled
11:43Triple H and it went 14 minutes. Jesus wept. The match is a nightmare, with the Toronto crowd having
11:51none of Eugene's bollocks. Roaring Eugene sucks as the commentators have to try and pick apart why
11:55Triple H is being cheered for beating up a disabled person for, once more with feeling, 14 f**king
12:02minutes. A real gross watch and speaking of. 3. Jake Roberts vs Jerry Lawler 1996
12:08Jerry Lawler is a WWE legend but all of his SummerSlam matches have sucked. Lawler vs Taz, that whole
12:15Lawler, Brett and Doink thing. Or this slow moving affair where Lawler spends the entire match offering
12:21known substance addict Jake Roberts bottles of whiskey to not fight him. Roberts has stated in
12:26interviews recently that he hated doing this storyline, branding Vince an asshole for forcing
12:31it on him and yeah, it is f**king rough to watch. That and also dull, right down to the finish which
12:36saw Lawler hit Roberts with a bottle right in front of the ref and not get disqualified.
12:412. King Mable vs Diesel 1995. The worst match at the worst SummerSlam in the worst year in the
12:49history of WWE. That's an achievement fit for a king. Half the matches from this card could have
12:55made the list but it would have gotten duller than the show itself. Bertha Faye vs Alundra Blaze,
12:59Smoking Guns vs the Neo-Nazi Twins, the Blue Brothers, Bret Hart vs The F**king Dentist,
13:05Undertaker wrestling karma for 15 god damn minutes. But the main event managed to outboring them all.
13:12Mable wearing his Burger King cardboard crown awkwardly transitioning from unsafe move to
13:17unsafe move with Diesel doing his best to try and wake up the comatose crowd. Look Diesel jumped over
13:22the ropes. What are you doing Diesel? Before Mable then jumped on his back and injured him to the
13:27point where you can actually hear. You can still hear it on the network. You can hear Diesel shouting
13:33at Mable because he just jumped on his back and f**king nearly broke his back. It's easily the worst
13:39main event in SummerSlam history but while Mable is the king of s**t SummerSlam matches, someone else
13:44is God. That's number one. The Great Khali Trilogy of s**t. 2007, 2008, 2009. It takes someone truly
13:54special to have the worst match on a SummerSlam card, 3 years on the trot. In 2007, Khali fought
14:00Batista in a horrendous match that saw the crowd die after repeated chops, lame pin attempts only to
14:06end in a rubbish DQ finish. In 2008, Triple H couldn't drag something possible out of him as the
14:10crowd screamed, you can't wrestle at him throughout multiple rest holes. In 2009, Khali wrestled Kane in
14:16a s**ty 6 minute plodger in front of another dead crowd. God bless you Kane for bumping for him,
14:22God bless your weird heart. And in 2010, WWE finally saw the light, preventing a four-peat by
14:28pulling Khali from the SummerSlam main event at the last minute, replacing you with Daniel Bryan,
14:33which is like replacing a bullet to the stomach with a cheeseburger. Three years, Great Khali.
14:38Thanks a f**king pack it. And that's our list. What's your least favourite SummerSlam match? Let us
