The U.S. Navy Mercy-class hospital ship will be in this country for just under a week in August.

Selected people on the public healthcare system waiting list will be able to get surgeries done, but others will be able to access a range of other medical services free of charge.

00:00Good news. The USNS Comfort, the world's largest floating hospital, which is under the US Navy,
00:07will berth in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on August 5th and will stay until the 11th in what will be
00:13the ship's final stop in its 2025 medical mission. According to the US Embassy, medical teams aboard
00:20the ship will collaborate with the Ministry of Health to provide free adult medical services,
00:25pediatric medical services, dental care, optometry, physical therapy and dermatology.
00:32This will be done at the National Academy for the Performing Arts from the 7th to the 9th of August.
00:39The US Embassy says no pre-registration is needed for this and it will operate on a first-come-first-serve
00:46basis, but only one medical issue will be addressed per patient per visit. While no identification is
00:53needed, it will assist in cases where the medical teams have to dispense medication.
00:58The USNS Comfort will be used to perform surgeries. However, this will be limited to the patients that
01:04are pre-selected by the Ministry of Health. According to US Embassy-Charged Affairs, Dr. Jennifer
01:10Neidhart-Diotis, the visit signifies, quote, the benefits of the strong partnership between Trinidad
01:16and Tobago and the United States. We are sharing our very best American excellence with Trinidad and
01:23Tobago, end quote. It is being seen as a strengthening of military-to-military cooperation between the US
01:31and TNT through exchanges in healthcare collaboration, disaster preparedness and response,
