00:00It's been over 75 years since a United States Knight Fighter Squadron observed the so-called
00:18Foo Fighters high over the Franco-German border during World War II.
00:23But the fact is that it was just a prelude to the UFO phenomenon, the start of which
00:29coincided with the most deadly period in human history.
00:34The Second World War in Europe ended in May 1945, but it was to be several months later
00:40before the most horrific conflict in human history reached a conclusion.
00:44In August, the U.S. military dropped nuclear bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
00:53The Soviets tested their first atomic bomb on the steppes in what is now Kazakhstan
00:57on August 29th, 1949, triggering the onset of the tense 40-year nuclear standoff
01:05between Russia and the United States, the Cold War.
01:13And at some point, perhaps when this problem with the Soviet Union was resolved,
01:18and we got on the same page and was like, oh, okay, great.
01:21You know, you're communists, we're capitalists, but that's fine.
01:24You help win the war.
01:26Let's work together.
01:27That didn't happen.
01:30What happened was trillions and trillions of modern dollars were spent on building 70,000
01:37nuclear warheads, then nuclear submarines, putting them on tracks, putting them on launch
01:43pads, putting them on underwater so that they could, they could, they, you could be dead 12 seconds
01:48after the war began.
01:52Could we be on the verge of another deadly conflict?
01:56These series of nuclear tests were preceded by astonishing events.
02:00Events that raised a completely different kind of concern and helped precipitate the creation
02:06of many top-secret projects.
02:08Projects which have remained top-secret until now.
02:11Projects which have been created by a nuclear war, and the police department.
02:31I believe there's probably not enough to get that nuclear war.
02:33I believe there's a nuclear war.
02:34I believe it's a nuclear war.
02:40top secret ufo projects declassified project blue book unknown june 1947 in the skies above
02:58washington state close to mount rainier private pilot kenneth arnold reported citing a formation
03:04of unidentified flying crafts arnold's account led to the press quickly coining the terms flying
03:11saucer and flying disc as popular descriptions for unidentified flying objects
03:16one month later the most notorious ufo sighting in history occurred july 1947 roswell new mexico
03:28major jesse a marcel air force intelligence officer arrived home to his house in roswell
03:38he walked into his 10-year-old son's bedroom and woke him up saying that he would probably never again
03:45see what he was about to show him items recovered from inside a ufo there was a lot of rather thick
03:55foil-like material uh kind of uh not a shiny aluminum but uh burnished or a slate gray type
04:04of aluminum metal uh there was a black plastic type debris like bakelite which was shattered it was
04:11very brittle perhaps at its core what why it has really resonated throughout the years is that it
04:19was the first time and perhaps only time where the united states air force and maybe they're still
04:24called army air force at the time authorized a newspaper article that said we have captured
04:29a flying saucer in washington that newspaper report created turmoil and say that you're the president
04:35of the united states you're harry truman what do you do with that information if you tell the world
04:41that it's real first of all you don't know are they hostile or friendly basically it's informally
04:48the moment that truman sent the authorization to roger ramey down in dallas fort worth that press release
04:55out of roswell air force bay army air force base that has got to be reversed immediately because if the
05:02press get to roswell in time to start interviewing people all over town this is out this is done the white
05:10house ordered a complete lockdown of all information and personnel connected with the roswell incident
05:15major jesse marcel was ordered to return to base immediately the information about the crash of an
05:23extraterrestrial vessel that had been prematurely released to the public had to be played down
05:28the ufo genie had to be put back the bottle at all costs
05:33very same day they hold the late press conference later in the day they get jesse marcel senior back
05:44there they get him in a room to hold up some reynolds wrap that might have been wrapping roger ramey's fish
05:50in the freezer and say weather balloon it was just a weather balloon and uh the press goes oh okay right no
05:58problem they debunked the whole thing and said oops it was a mistake we just saw a balloon
06:03and it was completely forgotten i think initially they might have thought it was even a russian
06:08weapon or something that was for the reason for the very story but later uh that it was determined
06:18it was not a russian so that left one of the possibility something from out of our atmosphere
06:23if the ufo the flying saucer at the time phenomena gets out of the bag and people across the country
06:32are afraid like a war of the world scenario that we're going to have laser ships destroying
06:38society that means the air force has failed in creating this sense of safety amongst the populace
06:44given the circumstances of the time it's not surprising that an initiative emerged within
06:51the pentagon to establish a program to investigate the ufo phenomenon the foundations were laid for the
06:59creation of the longest and most wide-spanning government ufo monitoring program project blue book
07:05project blue book was run by the united states air force and it was the best known of the three ufo
07:17research and investigation programs that the u.s government had had in the early days starting
07:24in 1947 with project sign and then evolving into project grudge project blue book was i think a
07:34genuine attempt to investigate ufo sightings and come to some sort of assessment of the phenomenon
07:44they really needed to get as much information as they could from private citizens who saw the craft who
07:50could report if the craft had landed who was inside the craft whether people were being taken inside of
07:56the craft and being shown things so all of this information they needed and the best way for them
08:02to get it was to have this project blue book set up so that it could act as a kind of veneer for
08:08people to report ufo sightings project sign was sort of like this high watermark of hey there's something
08:14going on no there's not we got a grudge against this there's nothing going on and then that was
08:20disbanded and led to the creation of project blue book the newly formed team is about to face a truly
08:26spectacular warm-up round with an incident directly above the nation's capital observed by countless
08:32numbers of people i do believe probably the most significant case in blue book was 1952 because we have a
08:42case here a lot of people say i'm not going to believe in ufos unless they land on the lawn in
08:48washington dc well they practically did they buzzed they flew over
09:03july 1952 washington dc
09:07we'll bring you the dramatic story of what happened over our nation's capital just one
09:14week ago tonight air traffic controller edward nugent noticed seven unidentified flying objects
09:20on his radar screen outside of authorized airspace he reported them to his superior it was also confirmed
09:28by two other controllers right from norad headquarters at nearby andrews air force base airman william brady
09:36also reported sightings of objects resembling fireballs whose speed and maneuverability were unlike
09:42anything he'd ever seen we asked him to describe it he said he couldn't describe it with just a small white
09:49light so did sc pierman a pilot waiting for takeoff clearance at washington national
09:56inexplicably project blue book commander edward j ruppelt was only made aware of this incident much later
10:12the unknown object passed over the white house and the capitol building
10:16f-94 starfire jet fighters were scrambled from andrews but the objects vanish
10:26a week later the incident occurred again with the same unidentified craft appearing in the skies
10:45above the capitol project blue book spokesman albert m chop denied reporters requests to photograph the radar
10:52screens during this second incident lieutenant William Patterson locked onto
11:03one of the objects attempting to pursue it his efforts were futile it was far
11:09too fast the unknown objects tracked on the radar were moving at unbelievable
11:14speeds ranging from 1150 to over 7,000 miles per hour project blue book investigators were ready
11:26and when this started happening again they went to the national airport they took over the control
11:32panel they took over the control tower and they witnessed this UFO encountered themselves they
11:40saw the jets being scrambled they saw the radar so they were right there at the time and they
11:46weren't able to determine what it was it's an amazing episode of history that a president who
11:55was very calm and controlled like Truman who's not prone to flights of fancy or you know panicking got
12:05angry enough about the situation he actually called the director of project blue book and he said what
12:09the hell is going on and he scrambled fighter jets to shoot these things down was these jet fighters
12:18were chasing and that were outrunning them a very similar incident to what we see at the in the Nimitz
12:24that's making the news right now or the Roosevelt which is also making news so it's a repeat of what
12:30keeps happening where these things show up we chase them they outmaneuver our best technology and we have
12:36no idea what the heck they are the country was in the midst of a cold war and people feared global
12:44conflict when unknown craft flew in formation over the nation's capital something had to be done on
12:50July 29 1952 an extraordinary press conference was held at the Pentagon the largest press conference
13:00since World War two was held at the Pentagon and major general John Alexander Samford spoke to the
13:08public along with other military officers about the sightings we can say that the recent sightings are in
13:17no way connected with any secret development by any agency of the United States General Samford stated
13:27that these things have been seen in the sky dating back to biblical times that there are credible people
13:36who are seeing incredible things that you can't explain any of this except for phenomena however there
13:45have been a certain percentage of this volume of reports that have been made by credible observers of
13:53relatively incredible things it is this group of observations that we now are attempting to resolve
14:02this was perhaps the one and only time in history when the military command of a global superpower issued a
14:08public response to documented UFO sightings and admitted that it was at a loss to explain them it was the first
14:15official admission that extraterrestrial graph of superior speed and maneuverability had been
14:20observed in the earth's atmosphere and that shook them up because they can't stop it they tried to come up with a
14:28cover story nobody believed it the flights over Washington seemed to announce to the world we are here you can
14:36count on our involvement nuclear weapons can endanger not only you but the entire planet and as yet undiscovered worlds
14:44beyond it to this day UFOs are sighted near bases with nuclear arsenals and in at least two documented cases the coded
14:55activation system was inexplicably tampered with in 2010 UFO expert Robert Hastings states
15:02declassified US government documents and witness testimony from former or retired US military personnel confirm beyond any doubt
15:11ongoing UFO incursions close to nuclear weapons facilities but information about this is kept under wraps and denied
15:18and so how do you keep that under wraps well you use all of the spy craft tool and disinformation tools and stuff that we developed during the war you you
15:22formalize the CIA out of the OSS you create the NSA you use your technology you you get in touch with publishers and key papers you talk to the three networks and you say look this you got to work play ball with us and they did is there anything in the files either
15:29classified or unclassified or unclassified that would indicate that there may be extraterrestrial visitors overhead
15:36first of all the project is completely unclassified and there's nothing in the records that would indicate that we have been
15:43visited by any advanced civilization
15:50a place where man can
15:52despite the authorities best efforts
15:55these sightings would keep up
15:58and there's nothing in the records that would indicate that we have been visited by any advanced civilization
16:01place where man can
16:04despite the authorities best efforts these sightings would keep on coming confounding attempts to play down the whole notion of UFO phenomena
16:21one of the cases that really impressed me in project blue book was that in 1952 there was this sighting of a flying saucer in the vicinity of desert springs
16:33and this was the place where George Adamski says that he actually had his first encounter with an extraterrestrial from Venus
16:43and Adamski had six people that witnessed him having this encounter
16:49November 1952
16:52Desert Center California
16:54California
17:01George Adamski returns home from stargazing with friends
17:04he was about to experience an encounter that would change his life
17:09first he recalls a cigar shaped object appearing in the sky
17:25others in the group were shocked but George Adamski was not so easily phased
17:33he left the group and walks towards where the craft had apparently landed
17:44Adamski disappeared over the horizon just as the vessel appeared to land
17:48but from a distance it is too hard to tell
17:51Adamski returned just moments later with an alarming message
17:55he said that he was warned by a being from Venus called Orthon about the threat of imminent nuclear war
18:10he tells them the Venusian communicated with him non-verbally
18:14I have more or less on gestures and mental telepathy as it is known talk transfer
18:29he does not speak I mean
18:30he didn't at the time but I have met him since and he does speak very well English as well as in the other language
18:35they saw the UFO they actually even saw a cigar shaped craft in the vicinity
18:49so these these witnesses they gave their testimony to a local newspaper
18:55they took some soil samples to support what Adamski said that he had a real-life meeting
19:00and in the project blue book files there was another person independent of
19:06Adamski and his six witnesses who said that they they reported a UFO sighting
19:11in the precise area where Adamski had his encounter
19:16on December 13 1952
19:19George Adamski claims to have photographed a UFO
19:22the image was debunked and compared to a surgical lab
19:26which of George Adamski's claims were true
19:30project blue book commander Edward J. Ruppelt
19:33and his scientific advisor Joseph Allen Hynek took an interest in Adamski
19:38in his 1956 memoirs Ruppelt writes
19:42to look at the man and to listen to his story
19:45you immediately felt an urge to believe him
19:48decades later it is clear
19:53not only from Ruppelt's memoirs
19:55but also from the testimony of other direct participants in project blue book
19:59that the project manipulated facts
20:01especially in its later phase
20:04some cases were filed with a blatant effort
20:07to avoid any unexplainable or unidentified phenomenon
20:11there was a policy instituted at that time
20:15in 1953 and in 1954 there were two new Air Force regulations put into effect
20:24that essentially any information that was not explained by the Air Force
20:32was to go through a different process a different system
20:36that only the information that could be identified as conventional craft
20:43could be told to the public and to the media
20:47and the whole idea was to say we're taking this seriously when they weren't taking it seriously
20:51they just wanted information
20:53but they would interpret it one way for the public
20:56they'd interpret it another way for themselves
20:58because they knew this was real
21:00and you're a publisher and they come in and say this is national security
21:04we cannot have significant investigations of this
21:07you can write some articles but do not challenge our position on this
21:10it's for the benefit of the nation
21:12and what is the publisher going to do?
21:14Ah, screw you!
21:21Project Blue Book's most famous commander was Captain Edward J. Ruppelt
21:25a decorated World War II pilot who incidentally coined the term
21:30unidentified flying object
21:32after resigning from his post
21:35Ruppelt wrote the book
21:36The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects
21:39which to this day provides readers with a very solid picture
21:43of what happened behind the scenes of military investigations
21:46into the phenomenon between 1947 and 1955
21:51Ruppelt and his people were very strongly looking at the extraterrestrial hypothesis
22:02but in later years Blue Book was explicitly given orders
22:05by the Air Force, by the military
22:07to explain all of these unexplained cases
22:13and just to give them explanations
22:15weather balloon, hoax or media or whatever
22:18and they got their percentage of unknowns down very, very low
22:22but that doesn't mean that these were legitimate investigations
22:25The most significant civilian figure associated with Project Blue Book
22:29was Joseph Allen Hynek
22:31a scientist hired by the Pentagon
22:33to advise on three consecutive UFO studies
22:37Project Sign, Project Grudge and Project Blue Book
22:41Hynek's observations became a case study
22:44of how empirical findings on the UFO question
22:48brought about radical change of opinion
22:51Well if you put it in the word
22:53use the word possibility and not probability
22:55then I would have to say
22:57I think if any scientist would have to say
22:59it is certainly possible, yes
23:01So, my father got involved with Project Blue Book
23:05and the predecessors
23:07There are two theories
23:09One is that because of his classified work with the Air Force
23:13or the Army during World War II
23:15on the proximity fuse
23:16He had a security clearance
23:18and there are people
23:19and you can see websites
23:21where they say it was a CIA plan
23:23to get Hynek involved again
23:25The alternative view is that
23:28they just needed a respectable astronomer
23:30to come in and say
23:31don't worry folks, there's nothing going on
23:34Among the tremendous noise or static or crud
23:39or whatever you want to call it
23:40a tremendous number of unreliable reports
23:42that are easily explained
23:44there is this residue of most interesting cases
23:49that intrigues me in the same way
23:51that a good mystery story intrigues me
23:53and I'd like to get the solution
23:54Now we knew J. Allen Hynek quite well
23:56we were with him both privately
23:58and at public conferences in the 70s and 80s
24:01and he was a man who was paid literally
24:04by the Project Blue Book
24:06to cover up the extraterrestrials
24:08but he was a man who had an inquisitive mind
24:12He starts looking behind the scenes
24:14and spitting out there's something real going on here
24:18What it is, we don't know
24:20but it's worthy of study
24:22Big, big cases which they never gave to Hynek
24:25So that's when Hynek discovered that they were using him
24:29Project Blue Book was basically an attempt to put under the table
24:35this phenomenon, to discredit it
24:38We have not been hiding anything
24:41The investigations have been made public
24:44The explanations of those where there is a clear explanation
24:48have been made public
24:50The hearing this morning was public for just that reason
24:52Then later on in his life, he totally switched
24:55He understood that the phenomenon was both physical and psychic
25:01So it was both physical and paranormal
25:04I think what was initially surprising for my father
25:08was the sort of cavalier attitude that the Air Force had
25:13to not really learn the truth
25:15Whether or not they need to learn the truth for a different military point of view
25:20than my father's scientific inquiry
25:22But they just weren't interested in the truth
25:25But what the U.S. military couldn't control
25:28were reports of sightings of UFOs coming from outside the United States
25:37June 1959
25:40Boanai, Papua New Guinea
25:50The peace and quiet of the Boanai Anglican Mission was unexpectedly disrupted
25:56Reverend William Booth Gill was the first to observe intense light
26:01around unoccupied Mount Pudi
26:04He and his assistant thought it was an atmospheric phenomenon
26:09hardly realizing that they would soon witness something much more extraordinary
26:15On June 26, Father Gill, along with 38 other eyewitnesses
26:20saw a large disk in the sky emitting blue light
26:23He later went public with what he had seen
26:26What it's like to look up in the sky
26:29and see a totally foreign-looking object
26:34They're just hovering
26:37not very far high up
26:39maybe two or three hundred feet up in the air
26:43Observers saw what appeared to be beings inside the craft
26:48They looked like people
26:50but something told Father Gill
26:52He was witnessing an encounter of an entirely different kind
26:56The visitation was repeated again the following night
27:00and was observed by yet another 25 witnesses
27:04Figures walking about on top
27:07and not the slightest noise whatsoever
27:11and so we waved
27:14They waved back
27:16Was it possible?
27:18Did these beings come from another world
27:21or from a parallel universe?
27:23Rarely has such an event been witnessed by so many
27:27The question is no longer whether there is intelligent life in the universe
27:31but how many different forms might it take?
27:34And then suddenly it did go
27:37and there was this amazingly incredible speed
27:43that the whole craft disappeared to nothing
27:49And I met Father Gill
27:50He came to our house for dinner one night
27:52for an ecumenical religious conference
27:55And this was not a guy who went on the UFO lecture circuit
27:58He did not write a book
28:00He was a man in his 70s who was very comfortable in his own skin
28:04as we say
28:05And I saw him with my own eyes
28:06And I'm looking at him thinking
28:08I don't think this guy is lying
28:09I don't think this guy is crazy
28:11So he didn't really understand why
28:14They didn't want to just thoroughly investigate
28:17Even though they would do something very different than he would do
28:19So I think that was surprising to him
28:24In the 1950s, at the behest of the CIA
28:27The Robertson Panel was established
28:30A scientific committee that precisely shaped strategies and tactics of dealing with the media
28:37Even if UFOs did not pose a direct threat to the United States
28:41A threat could arise from the mismanagement of classified information and public interest
28:47Therefore, a massive disinformation plan was created and put into action
28:52Gradually integrating their talking points into public life
28:56The Air Force always wanted to get rid of Project Blue Book
29:05But they weren't really able to without a proper pretext
29:11A proper explanation, reason
29:13That's where the so-called Condon Committee investigation came in
29:17In the late 1960s, the University of Colorado was contracted by the Air Force
29:22To do a supposedly scientific study of UFOs
29:26Well, that was a whole rigged game as well
29:30Dr. Edward Condon made statements such as
29:34We do not expect extraterrestrial life from outside our solar system
29:44To reach our planet in the next 10,000 years
29:48If you actually look at the Condon Project reports
29:53The scientific study
29:55You'll find that much of that information indicates that UFOs are real
30:01And that there was a serious interest in this
30:05Sort of signal low points would be 1953 and 1969
30:101953 was the Robertson panel
30:13Which is the first of sort of two scientist-led symposiums
30:19To discuss UFOs and write a report and come up with a conclusion
30:22Basically, they had a report whose conclusion said
30:25There's nothing to the UFO phenomena, let's close the doors and go home
30:31The fact that the contents of the program remained classified until 1975
30:38Five years after Project Blue Book was terminated
30:41Demonstrates without a doubt
30:43That the Robertson panel report wasn't just a temporary program
30:47It was a sustained, long-term effort
30:50To make the subject of UFOs scientifically unrespectable
30:55Hynek saw this essentially as a smokescreen
31:01To keep critical information about UFOs out of the public domain
31:12Project Blue Book was officially shut down in 1969
31:16With the archive made available to the public in 2015
31:19As it turns out, the archive is far from complete
31:24Following a discovery by UFO investigator Rob Mercer
31:28Who lived close to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio
31:32Many previously undisclosed cases recorded by the U.S. military
31:36And collated by Project Blue Book came to light
31:39Thanks to a classified advertisement
31:42Offering official military files related to UFOs
31:45Mercer took possession of a cache of boxes
31:48These boxes were filled with documents stored in a garage
31:51By a former military base officer
31:54Thanks in large part to Mercer
31:56A much clearer picture of the history of the project
31:59And the sheer volume of information in its possession
32:02Came to light
32:04April 1964
32:08Socorro, New Mexico
32:19It was hot at the end of April that year
32:21Especially for patrolman Lonnie Zamora
32:24At around 5.45 in the afternoon
32:27While in pursuit of a speeding driver
32:30He witnesses a flash of fire on the horizon
32:40About a half a mile away
32:42Suspecting that a dynamite store in the area exploded
32:46He decided to drop the pursuit
32:48In order to check out the scene
32:50I went up that little road
32:52For about half a mile I guess
32:56I came up to this little
33:00Barking deal there
33:01On the side of the road
33:02And I
33:03For a glance out of the window
33:06Look to my left
33:08I've seen this white object
33:11On the ground
33:12So I thought it might be a car that had turned over
33:17Turned over
33:18Uh-huh
33:19So I also realized
33:20The real big Harry going out there to investigate
33:22Thought maybe somebody would be hurt
33:26Astonished
33:27The object spotted by Zamora
33:29Slowly began to rise into the air
33:31There was no smoke
33:32Just a blue and orange flame
33:34Beneath the object
33:36Frightened
33:37The policeman fled
33:39Stumbling
33:40Losing his glasses as he fell on the dusty ground
33:42He tries to take cover
33:44In anticipation
33:45Of an explosion above him
33:47Suddenly
33:49Everything went quiet
33:51He looked up to see the object slowly departing
33:54But not through rocket propulsion
33:56Simply
33:57Floating
33:58Silently away
34:02Jay Hynek
34:03Met with Lonnie Zamora
34:04To discuss what he had seen
34:06And evaluate his credibility
34:08He was favorably impressed
34:10Driving for Barrington
34:12My father thought he was a very credible witness
34:15Um
34:16Who exhibited signs of trauma
34:18Immediately after the event
34:20And was very consistent
34:21In his recounting of the event after that
34:23And this was sort of part of a flurry
34:25Or a flap
34:26Of cases in New Mexico
34:28Um
34:29In the 40s, 50s and 60s
34:30So that was a very convincing case
34:32That was one of the cases that led my father
34:34To finally jump in with both feet
34:37To the deep end of the UFO pool
34:39Testimonies gathered over the years
34:41Refute perhaps the most important official conclusion
34:44Of Project Blue Book
34:46Which states
34:47There has been no evidence submitted
34:49Or discovered by the Air Force
34:51That sightings categorized as unidentified
34:55Represent technological developments or principles
34:58Beyond the range of present day scientific knowledge
35:02There has been no evidence indicating the sighting categorized as unidentified
35:07Are extraterrestrial vehicles
35:10You know when you investigate cases
35:12And they're obviously extraterrestrial
35:14At some point you just have to say
35:16This is not able to be covered up any longer
35:20This is why Project Blue Book was diminished
35:23Because it did not have answers
35:25That were sufficient really to other areas of science
35:28The largest study ever done
35:30By the US Air Force
35:33Was done in 1954, 1955
35:37At the prestigious Battelle Memorial Institute
35:403,201 cases were categorized
35:45By the scientists who did this study
35:49In the end
35:5121.5% were labeled as true unknowns
35:58They could not identify them as anything conventional on this planet
36:04However, the Secretary of the Air Force made a statement
36:08That it was only 3%
36:10When you say that it's only 3% it can be easily dismissed
36:1421.5% deserves further scientific investigation
36:20By the time Project Blue Book was terminated in 1969
36:24It had accumulated a total of 12,618 UFO sightings
36:29Categorizing the majority of the cases as natural phenomena
36:33Anomalies or conventional aircraft
36:35Roughly 6% of the cases, 701 to be exact
36:39Are labeled as unexplainable
36:42One of the most intriguing of these
36:44Was reported just 3 years before Blue Book was shut down
36:48March 1966
36:50Shepard Air Force Base, Texas
37:00Shortly before sunrise
37:0256 year old electrician Eddie Laxon
37:04Eddie Laxon
37:05Was driving over the state line between Texas and Oklahoma
37:09Little suspecting
37:11What he was about to encounter
37:13The beams
37:15Of a car's headlights
37:16On this dark road
37:18There wasn't a living soul in sight
37:21And yet
37:22A moment later
37:23Eddie sharply had to stomp on his brakes
37:26Dumbfounded
37:27He stared ahead
37:29While the car radio
37:31Suddenly died
37:32As did the vehicle's engine
37:35He got out of his car
37:36And stood transfixed
37:38At a 75 foot long
37:408 foot high
37:41And 12 foot wide craft
37:43It was unlike anything
37:45He had ever seen
37:47Here's his dimensions
37:48It's 75 feet in length
37:50It has a 3 foot diameter porthole here
37:53It has a bubble canopy here
37:55There's 4 landing gear legs
37:57And then there's a door right here
37:59There were figures standing alongside the vessel
38:01Dressed in uniforms
38:02Dressed in uniforms
38:03Bearing unfamiliar emblems
38:05The ship
38:06As he recalled
38:07Was marked with the numbers
38:09TL-4768
38:11The vessel had no wings
38:13As you might see
38:14On a conventional man-made aircraft
38:16Of the period
38:17There was a man shining a flashlight
38:19On the bottom of this craft
38:20With a porthole here
38:22And when he saw
38:23And when he saw
38:24That he was being viewed
38:25By the eyewitness
38:26He went up the ladder
38:27He closed the door
38:29Shortly after
38:32It rose noiselessly
38:34And vanishes at a speed
38:35Of perhaps 700 miles per hour
38:38Faster than the speed of sound
38:40But without a sonic boom
38:43Eddie was at a complete loss
38:45To explain what he had just seen
38:47Were these humanoid extraterrestrials
38:50Time travelers
38:52Even with today's technologies
38:54Human science is incapable
38:56Of building such a vessel
38:58And as this thing was departing
39:02Truckers who were going down the same road
39:04They saw it too
39:05So we've got multiple independent confirmation
39:08Of this craft actually being seen
39:10Shepard Air Force Base
39:11Back in 1966
39:13And yet, despite the weight of evidence
39:16Project Blue Book filed away
39:18This compelling eyewitness testimony
39:20Continuing its policy
39:22Of suppressing any accounts
39:23Of UFO sightings
39:24Or information
39:26Which might contradict
39:27The official government line
39:28On the existence of UFOs
39:31To explain away all UFO sightings
39:34As quickly as possible
39:35When they become public
39:36And deny that UFOs really exist
39:40This theory that Project Blue Book
39:43Was just a public relations exercise
39:46Has been given some new credibility
39:50Because of course we now know
39:52That the Pentagon had at least
39:55From 2007 to 2012
39:59But may be still existing
40:01A program called AATIP
40:03Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program
40:06So the idea of having a public program
40:09Like Blue Book
40:10But having as well
40:12A secret program
40:14That the people
40:15The media and the public
40:16Don't know about
40:17Does now have more
40:19More credibility
40:21The stigma was manufactured
40:24We as scientists were used
40:26In this divide and conquer tactic
40:28That we were meant to come out
40:29And get people
40:31Not to be talking about this
40:33Or dismiss any sort of encounter
40:35That somebody had
40:36What are you doing there Mo?
40:37Just flying saucers
40:40And what we see today
40:41The stigma that still exists
40:42And the separation
40:43Between the UFO community
40:45And the scientific community
40:47Is a hangover of this period
40:50It's a legacy
40:51Of this divide and conquer strategy
40:53That was used by the military
40:55And the government
40:56In the 1940s, 50s
40:58And throughout
40:59And that's not conspiracy theory
41:00When you keep encountering
41:01These objects
41:02That are over sensitive airspace
41:05That are not supposed to be there
41:06You have to do something about it
41:08And the thing is
41:09They try to do it
41:10As quietly as they can
41:11But this has never stopped
41:13Being a problem
41:14For the United States military
41:16Although the results
41:17Of many years of observation
41:19Have been downplayed
41:20And censored
41:21With UFOs having been
41:22Successfully relegated
41:23To the sphere of pop culture
41:25This doesn't mean
41:26That the US military
41:27Has lost interest in the phenomenon
41:29Or has stopped being active
41:32In monitoring any activity
41:34Which could be associated
41:35With UFOs
41:36It put the United States government
41:41In a very difficult position
41:42Because for years
41:44They had said
41:46In response to any questions
41:47About this
41:48We don't investigate UFOs anymore
41:51We haven't done this
41:52Since Project Blue Book
41:53So of course
41:54This story
41:55Proved that they had
41:56So it was embarrassing
41:58The philosophical drive
42:01Of Project Blue Book
42:02Was that UFOs did not exist
42:04So they're always looking
42:06For explanations
42:07Like a weather balloon
42:09The planet Saturn
42:10Or a hoax
42:11To explain them away
42:13I don't think
42:14It is space people
42:15Although
42:16I would be delighted
42:17If it turned out that way
42:18Because as an astronomer
42:19I think it would make astronomy
42:21Even more interesting
42:22Than it is
42:23And as far as
42:24The Air Force is concerned
42:25I can't speak for them
42:26Of course
42:27But I should imagine
42:29That if the
42:31If the existence
42:32Of spacecraft
42:33Were really established
42:34It would really increase
42:35The appropriations
42:36Of the Air Force
42:37Project Blue Book
42:38Was sort of
42:39The front man
42:40Out there saying
42:41Hey, don't worry
42:42Nothing going on here
42:43Don't look behind the curtain
42:44So they've been researching
42:45Whatever they can research
42:46About the extraterrestrial presence
42:48Particularly the technology
42:4924-7
42:51Month after month
42:53Year after year
42:54All the way back
42:55Into the 50s
42:56And so this idea
42:57That
42:58Oh, they just did
42:59Blue Book
43:00And then they didn't do anything
43:01And then they came up
43:02With the ATIP program
43:03Believe me
43:04They've been studying it
43:05All this time
43:06The idea that
43:07We have to classify
43:08And keep things
43:09Secret and safe
43:10And you know
43:11We don't have
43:12The same level
43:13Of existential threat
43:15We used to have
43:16We just don't
43:17It's time to move on
43:19And say look
43:20I'd rather have
43:21Some of these secrets
43:22Get out
43:23And have a more open world
43:26And a lot stronger understanding
43:29Than what we currently have
43:32We currently have
43:33To be continued
43:35To be continued
43:36To be continued
43:37To be continued
43:39To be continued
43:40To be continued
43:42To be continued
43:43To be continued
43:45To be continued
43:46To be continued
44:16To be continued
44:46To be continued
