Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly disturbing a turtle attempting to nest at the Turtle Conservation and Information Centre in Cherating last Saturday (July 26).

00:21Acting Kwantan OCPD, Superintendent Mohamed Adlimat Daud said the suspect was detained
00:27around 1 p.m. on Monday in the Cherateng area. Preliminary urine tests showed the man tested
00:34positive for drugs. Police are also tracking down two more individuals believed to be involved
00:40in the incident.
00:52The Pahang Fisheries Department expressed deep regret over the incident, which occurred
00:57at 6.45 a.m. on Saturday. Its director, Roslan Abu Hassan, condemned the behaviour as irresponsible
01:06and inhumane. He reminded the public that turtles are protected under the Fisheries Act 1985,
01:13and that anyone caught disturbing or harming them could face fines ranging from 500 to 20,000 ringgit.
