A turtle called Moe has been given a birthday celebration to mark turning fifty. His keepers say the milestone is also a chance to raise awareness of turtle conservation around World Turtle Day.

00:06Moe's 50th is an amazing event for us here because we work very very closely with Moe,
00:12obviously over the years we get to really love him and adore him. So knowing that he's not only
00:17happy but he's thriving here with us at SeaLife is such an amazing achievement. So a birthday cake
00:22for a turtle is very green, lots of greenery, lettuce, carrots, all his favourite treats.
00:28Interestingly even though Moe is 50, in turtle years that's actually quite young still. He could
00:36go on to live for hundreds of more years. So yeah he's still quite a young boy even though to
00:41us he's
00:42an old boy. So the visitors that come to visit Moe here at the SeaLife Birmingham really enjoy being
00:48face to face with him. I think it's extraordinary that they get to see these animals that they
00:52wouldn't see usually on a day-to-day basis and it also just shows that even though he came to
00:57us
00:57kind of like vulnerable and in need that just with us helping and our care and expertise and just a
01:03lot of love he's now been given like a second chance and I think that's really important for people to
01:07see. Alongside Moe's birthday celebrations is also World Turtle Day. So here at SeaLife we've put on an
01:13event that people can come along to learn about Moe and it's going to be all to do with conservation
01:18and turtles.
