00:13These are the 10 best options.
00:14We do this list every year.
00:16We rank the states by their stats.
00:18Crime, economy, real estate, schools, healthcare,
00:20and a few other stats,
00:22and we see who shakes out to be the best.
00:24Between number two and number one,
00:25I will give you a few that almost made the list.
00:28Everyone asks for that every year.
00:29In the comment section,

00:37All right, we're gonna see who made the top 10 for 2024.
00:41Get it? Got it? Good.
00:42Let's take a look.
00:46Number 10, Massachusetts.
00:47Massachusetts has dropped on this list quite a bit.
00:50Two years ago, they were number three.
00:52Here they are at number 10,
00:53but it's still a great place to live.
00:55From its charming historic towns like Cape Cod,
00:57to its biggest city, Boston.
00:59There is something for everyone in this state.
01:02They got some of the best colleges
01:04and universities in the country.
01:06They have some of the best healthcare,
01:07and some legendary sports teams.
01:09The Boston Red Sox, the Patriots, and the Bruins.
01:12It's also a great state if you like a good change in seasons,
01:15because they have it.
01:16Their fall foliage is amazing, by the way.
01:18They also have great seafood.
01:19You like clam chowder or lobster rolls.
01:22You know, Boston's probably your best place.
01:23That's an opinion.
01:25And there's a strong argument
01:26that you can get better seafood in Rhode Island.
01:28So if you're into history, you like great food,
01:31you need an education, and you need some good healthcare,
01:34Massachusetts is a good place for you to be.
01:36Here's where they rank amongst the other 50 states.
01:39For economy, Massachusetts is ranked 13th.
01:42For school, they're ranked third in the nation.
01:44Healthcare, third in the nation.
01:46And crime, 11th.
01:47That's not bad.
01:48As you go down the list,
01:49you're gonna see that their numbers are better
01:51than a lot of other states.
01:53But some of the other stats
01:54that I'm not really talking about on this,
01:56they're kind of boring, but they're still factored in.
01:58They kind of suck at it.
01:59Their infrastructure isn't doing great.
02:01They're actually ranked 43rd in the nation.
02:03And their fiscal stability,
02:04meaning how the government is spending things
02:06and how the government of the state,
02:08and let's say cities like Boston,
02:10how their future looks, it's not great.
02:12They're ranked 44th in the nation.
02:13But you put that all together in the number blender,
02:16we call a calculator,
02:17and it comes out Massachusetts number 10.
02:23Number nine, Florida.
02:24Living in Florida is, you know,
02:26not a bad deal for a lot of people.
02:28Even though we did a video just recently
02:29about how a lot of residents
02:31are researching moving to new states,
02:33Florida is still gaining population.
02:35Actually, it depends on what study you look at,
02:37they're always in the top five
02:38of the most moved to states.
02:40The Sunshine State does live up to its name
02:42with an abundance of sunny days
02:44that give you plenty of vitamin D,
02:46which will affect your mood.
02:47You'll probably be a lot happier
02:48if you're living in Florida.
02:50I mean, the entire state makes you feel like
02:52you're on vacation every single day.
02:54Florida has more beaches than should be allowed
02:57in a polite society.
02:58It's like they overshadow just about every other state.
03:01On top of that, they have a severe case
03:03of laid back lifestyle.
03:05This another state that has amazing seafood
03:08and tons of outdoor activities.
03:10Yes, I get it.
03:11They have hurricanes occasionally.
03:12They do get some pretty good rain storms,
03:15but most of the time that state is sunny and pleasant
03:18or sunny and extremely hot.
03:20If you like hot weather,
03:20this is a really good place to live.
03:22Let's look at their stats.
03:24For economy, Florida's ranked seventh in the nation.
03:27For schools, believe it or not,
03:28they are ranked number one.
03:30I don't know how long that one's gonna last
03:32with all the teachers that are flooding
03:34out of Florida right now though.
03:35I was reading a blog by this economist
03:37and he said that the real estate market in Florida
03:40is starting to be affected
03:41by all the problems they're having
03:43with teachers leaving and things like that.
03:45One of the worst things you could do
03:47for property values is having school problems,
03:50whether it's their bad schools or in this situation,
03:53teachers are flooding out of the state.
03:54They're ranked 28th in healthcare
03:56and 19th when it comes to crime.
03:59Now, the reason they're at number nine
04:00and not lower on this list
04:01is the opportunity score they have is they're ranked 46,
04:05meaning you can get a job.
04:07Don't expect it to be the best job
04:09and don't expect to be climbing any social ladders
04:12anytime soon.
04:16Number eight, Vermont.
04:17Living in Vermont is like a breath
04:19of fresh maple scented air.
04:21Talked to a lady on a train one time
04:23and she had the nice way of explaining
04:25why she loved living in Vermont.
04:26She said it was about embracing the simple joys of life,
04:29strolling through villages,
04:31wood-burning stoves, and having a beer at a mountain tavern.
04:35I have to admit, it kind of sold me on the state.
04:37The pace is slow and the people tend to be as warm
04:40as that wood-burning stove she spoke of.
04:43It's a great state for people that like to be outdoors,
04:45winter, spring, summer, and fall.
04:47All of them, they have something for you to do in Vermont.
04:50It's not just a place either.
04:51It's kind of a state of mind that celebrates the good life
04:55in all its rustic glory.
04:57When you look at the rankings,
04:59their economy is ranked 18th in the nation.
05:01Schools ranked 15th.
05:02Healthcare is 18th.
05:04Their crime is number three.
05:05One that really helps them get into the top 10
05:07is their opportunity.
05:08They have the second best opportunity ranking in the country.
05:14Number seven, Wisconsin.
05:16Now I could see this one.
05:17I love Wisconsin.
05:18Wisconsin is a great state,
05:20and it's not a bad place to live.
05:22From its stunning natural beauty of the North woods
05:24to its bustling cities like Milwaukee and Madison,
05:27there's something here for everyone.
05:29You can't beat cheese curds and Friday fish fries.
05:32And of course, brats and beer.
05:34Man, those people in Wisconsin like their bratwurst.
05:36I swear, I don't know what it is.
05:38It's almost like Los Angeles and San Diego and tacos.
05:41And I guess New York and Chicago with pizza.
05:44There's an interesting question.
05:45Who has better pizza, Chicago or New York?
05:47I say Chicago.

05:50But back to Wisconsin, Wisconsin is a great state to live.
05:54It's great for families.
05:55It's great for colleges.
05:57And you'll meet some of the friendliest people
05:58in the country in Wisconsin.
06:00Sure, they have their fair share of snow and winter weather,
06:03but it's still a great place to live.
06:05Ice skating, snowball fights.
06:07And in the summer, when the warm weather rolls around,
06:10you got all kinds of lakes for perfect swimming, boating,
06:12and just lazy days at the beach.
06:14And they got the Packers.
06:15Let's see how the Badger state ranks.
06:17For their economy, they're ranked 22nd,
06:19which isn't bad, middle of the road.
06:21Their schools, number six, healthcare, number seven,
06:23crime is 22.
06:25Their fiscal stability kind of gets them
06:27on this list a little bit higher.
06:29It's they're ranked seventh in the nation.
06:30That's not bad.
06:35Number six, Nebraska.
06:37Nebraska is a great state to live
06:38if you're not looking for skyscrapers.
06:40Yeah, they don't have really big cities.
06:42They got Omaha and Lincoln,
06:43and then everything else is pretty much a small city
06:46or small town.
06:47I said that once before and someone said,
06:48well, you've obviously never seen North Platte.
06:50I have seen North Platte.
06:52They only have 23,000 residents.
06:54Here's a good way to judge if your city is a big city
06:57or a small city or a big town or small town.
07:00If you run a marathon around the outskirts of town,
07:03and some people are getting lapped twice,
07:05you don't live in a big city.
07:07But Nebraska is a great place to live
07:09if you like a quiet life.
07:11Even though it's a pretty flat state,
07:13it's got some amazing rivers, lakes,
07:15and sunsets over the Cornhuskers state
07:18are not a bad thing to see.
07:19They're also big in barbecue here too.
07:21They kind of fly under the radar
07:23and they're often overlooked
07:24for the quality of barbecue that Nebraska has.
07:26They got some good barbecue.
07:27Let's look at their ranking.
07:29For economy, Nebraska's ranked 10th in the nation,
07:31which is not bad.
07:33They're ranked seventh in the nation for schools,
07:3521st for healthcare, and 25th for crime.
07:38I was a little shocked with the crime rate too.
07:40For infrastructure, they're not doing bad.
07:42They're five.
07:43That's how they moved up the list this high.
07:47Number five, Minnesota.
07:49One of the only real bad things about Minnesota
07:52is they get some horrible winters.
07:54They're a lot like Wisconsin.
07:56They really only have one place
07:57that has a whole bunch of crime,
07:59which is the Twin Cities, Minneapolis, St. Paul.
08:01But they have thousands of small towns
08:04that are ready for you to move in and be relatively safe.
08:07Once you get past the crime in Minneapolis,
08:10and the cold weather they have, it's a great state.
08:13They've got 10,000 lakes, which is their state motto,
08:15land to 10,000 lakes.
08:17In reality, I think they said there's close to 13,000.
08:20Either way, there's water everywhere here.
08:22If you like to boat, you like to fish, you like to swim,
08:25you're gonna find a place to do all that.
08:27Now I should clear something up.
08:28Minneapolis does have some crime.
08:30It's not doing great, but it's definitely not as bad
08:32as some of the other cities in the United States.
08:34Their total crime rate is only 133%
08:37above the national average.
08:38Detroit is 155% above the national average.
08:41Detroit's pretty scary because their property crime is so low.
08:44It's only like 50% above the national average.
08:47Their violent crime rate is 455% above the national average.
08:51Meaning nobody has anything worth stealing,
08:53but they're still hurting each other.
08:55St. Louis total crime rate is 200% above the national average.
08:58And I know some of you are gonna ask Chicago's total crime rate
09:01is only 67% above the national average.
09:04Their violent crime rate's only 143%.
09:07Everyone always brings that up.
09:08There's a lot of rumors and there's a lot of misconceptions
09:11about what's going on in Chicago.
09:12It's not as bad as you think it is.
09:14They do have the most murders,
09:15but they also have far more people
09:17than anyone else on the list.
09:18So like I said, even though Minneapolis has some crime,
09:21it's still safer than a lot of the other big cities,
09:23especially in this area.
09:24Minnesota is not a bad place to live in.
09:26They're number five on this list.
09:28Let's check out their rankings.
09:29For economy, they're ranked 11th.
09:31That's not bad.
09:32Schools, they're ranked 20th.
09:33Healthcare, they're ranked 11th.
09:34And crime, they're ranked 20th.
09:36They come in first place though for infrastructure
09:39and opportunity, they're number nine.
09:41That's why they're number five on this list.
09:46Number four, New Hampshire.
09:47New Hampshire and Vermont always show up on the same list.
09:49They're very similar.
09:50They're right next to each other.
09:51I think they should just erase that border
09:53between the two of them and call it one big state.
09:55But most New England states are gonna be safe
09:58and their crime rates are always gonna be low.
10:00Sadly, tonight in Maine,
10:02I'm recording this on the 25th of October,
10:04but there was a mass shooting in Maine.
10:06Funny thing about that, nothing's funny about it.
10:08Let me rephrase that.
10:09The strange thing about that,
10:10Maine has such a low crime rate.
10:12All the New England states do really,
10:13except for Connecticut,
10:14that it really won't affect their crime rate
10:16or it really won't move them out of the top five.
10:19In the statistics world, this is called an anomaly.
10:22It doesn't happen in New England.
10:24But New Hampshire is another great place to live
10:26as long as you don't mind the snow.
10:28These white mountains though,
10:29offer some epic hiking and skiing.
10:31And the lakes are perfect in the summer
10:33for swimming and kayaking.
10:35It's New England.
10:36So the communities are usually warm and friendly.
10:38They're just like that New England.
10:40And they don't have a sales tax.
10:41That's always good.
10:42So if you're into gorgeous landscapes,
10:44friendly faces and saving some bucks,
10:46New Hampshire is the place to be.
10:47Their economy is ranked fourth in the nation.
10:49That is not bad.
10:50Schools are 18th, not the best.
10:52Healthcare is 14th and their crime is number one.
10:55They're less important stats
10:57that we haven't been putting up here,
10:58but opportunity, they're ranked first in the nation.
11:04Number three, Idaho.
11:06Idaho has a very laid back lifestyle
11:08with stunning natural beauty and friendly folks,
11:11as long as you're not from California.
11:12Like I've said before,
11:13if you move to Idaho and you're from California,
11:16tell people you just got out of prison,
11:18before you tell them you just got out of California,
11:21they'll accept the prison thing a little bit better.
11:23But whether you're into hiking in the sawtooth mountains
11:26or skiing in the winter wonderland known as Sun Valley,
11:28or maybe you just wanna hang out and eat some potatoes.
11:31There's something for everyone in Idaho.
11:34It's been in the top 10 most moved to states
11:36for about seven years now.
11:38And I would say the last three or four,
11:39they've been in the number like one, two, or three.
11:42Here they are at number three
11:43for the best states for 2024.
11:45Even though there's been a pretty active migration
11:48towards Idaho over the last four or five years,
11:51they've still got a lot of open land
11:52and a lot of great places to live.
11:54Real estate's climbing a little bit,
11:56but it's still cheaper than most states on the west coast.
11:59Technically it's not on the west coast,
12:00but it's considered a Pacific Northwest state,
12:03along with Oregon and Washington.
12:05All right, let's take a look at the rankings.
12:06For economy, Idaho is ranked number two in the nation.
12:09Not bad. Schools, 19, not the best,
12:12but that's still respectable.
12:13Healthcare, 14th, again, respectable.
12:15Crime, they're ranked eighth in the nation.
12:17Fiscal stability, they're ranked second as well.
12:20And their infrastructure's number 10.
12:21So they got pretty good stats all the way around.
12:23The only bad thing is their opportunity.
12:26They're ranked 29th in the nation.
12:28And that's still not even in the forties or anything.
12:34Number two, Washington state.
12:36Living in Washington is pretty awesome, to be honest.
12:39A lot of people love it that I know that live there.
12:41Got lush forest, the majestic cascade mountains,
12:44practically in your backyard.
12:46You got the ocean on the left side of the state.
12:49It's got its problems just like every place else.
12:51And trust me, there's a whole host of people
12:53that will dispute they're the number two spot
12:56in the comment section.
12:57I don't know what it is about these people in Washington,
13:00but they all say the same thing.
13:01And I'm starting to think it's the same person
13:03that just has multiple accounts.
13:04Cause they're always using the same words, same verbiage.
13:07I know plenty of people that love Washington.
13:09I often think about moving to Washington
13:12and it always shows up in the top five of any list
13:15about the best states to live in.
13:16When everything says, this is a great place to live.
13:19And then you just have a handful of people
13:20or just one person that says it's a horrible place.
13:23I'm thinking it's them.
13:24Washington, like every other state does have some problems.
13:27And that's one thing I think a lot of people forget.
13:29They're trying to compare a state versus perfection
13:32when they should be comparing it against other states.
13:34Nothing's perfect, but Washington's the second closest
13:37you're gonna get to perfection in this country in 2024.
13:41If you like coffee and friendly people, stay out of Seattle.
13:44If you just like coffee, go to Seattle.
13:45People in Seattle really aren't that friendly.
13:47They've actually have this reputation
13:49of being very cold to newcomers.
13:51The rest of the state is definitely not like that.
13:53Go to the Eastern part of Washington.
13:55You'll think you're in Iowa.
13:56The weather in Washington state gets a bad rap,
13:58but the mild summers and the beautiful crisp autumns,
14:01more than make up for the rainy days that you'll see
14:04throughout the winter.
14:05Occasional snow here and there.
14:06And again, on the Eastern side of Washington,
14:09there's not much rain and not much snow.
14:11Can get pretty crisp though.
14:12I like Washington.
14:13I think it's a great state.
14:14And I think it's a great place to live,
14:15especially since they don't have a state income tax.
14:18That's always great.
14:18Here's their rankings.
14:19For economy, they're ranked ninth of the nation.
14:21Schools, 10th.
14:22Healthcare, 9th.
14:23And crime, 20th.
14:25Not great, but it's pretty good.
14:26Now here's their other stats.
14:27Fiscal stability, they're ranked fourth.
14:29Infrastructure sixth and natural environment.
14:32They're ranked second in the nation.
14:34Side note, they're tied with Oregon
14:35for natural environment.
14:37And don't worry, Oregon didn't make this list this year.
14:39Didn't even come close.
14:42All right, before we get to number one, like promised,
14:45here are the ones that almost made the list.
14:47Iowa would have been number 11.
14:49South Dakota would have been number 12.
14:52And Colorado would have been number 13.

15:05All right, on to number one.
15:09And number one, Utah.
15:12That's right, the beehive state makes it the number one.
15:15And it totally makes sense.
15:16There's a lot of good things going on in Utah.
15:19Utah has some of the best natural beauty in the country.
15:22A lot of people don't associate desert landscapes with beauty,
15:26which I think is a mistake, it's not my thing,
15:28but you still have to recognize that the desert is beautiful.
15:31And Utah is a perfect example of that.
15:33Now, the entire state of Utah is not just desert,
15:36but that is where you're gonna find
15:37some of its best natural beauty.
15:39I mean, the national parks alone in Utah
15:42should sell you on this.
15:43Capital Reef National Park, Canyonlands National Park,
15:46Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
15:48Of course, you got Bryce Canyon and Arches.
15:51And one of my favorites, Zion National Park.
15:54Utah's a state that's doing all the right things.
15:57They've got great people.
15:58And it's showing in the migration patterns.
16:02They're one of the most moved to states
16:03in the union right now, and it's been picking up steam.
16:06And I think it's gonna continue to pick up steam
16:08in the next handful of years.
16:09Got so bad that the governor of Utah sent a letter
16:12to the governor of California
16:14to tell him to stop sending people there.
16:16That's obviously a publicity stunt
16:18because California's not sending anyone anywhere.
16:21People are going on their own.
16:22And Utah's one of those states that sent a lot of people
16:25to California in the 1990s and early 2000s.
16:28So a lot of them are just coming back.
16:30All right, let's see their rankings.
16:32For economy, they're ranked number one.
16:33For healthcare, they're ranked number seven.
16:35Schools, number five.
16:36Crime, number four.
16:38Now, if you dig a little deeper,
16:39it's the number one state for jobs right now.
16:41And that's how Utah got to be number one.
