China’s AI sector forms two alliances at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai to cut foreign tech dependence, according to Reuters. The “Model-Chip Ecosystem Innovation Alliance,” announced by LLM developer StepFun, links AI chipmakers to language model developers. The alliance includes chipmakers that face U.S. sanctions, such as Huawei, Biren, and Moore Threads. A second alliance is led by the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce AI Committee, aims to drive AI integration into industry. It includes sanctioned firm SenseTime and chipmakers Metax and Iluvatar CoreX. These moves highlight China’s strategy to build a domestic AI ecosystem under tightening U.S. export restrictions.
