00:00Top US and Chinese economic officials are meeting today in Stockholm to address long-standing trade disputes.
00:07The talk aims to extend a truce and delay steep tariff hikes by another three months.
00:13The meetings are led by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier Hili Feng.
00:19The current 90-day truce, under which both sides temporarily lowered tariffs, is set to expire on August 12.
00:26It followed preliminary deals in May and June that paused weeks of escalating tariffs and Beijing's threat to restrict rare earth exports.
00:36Further truce extensions would prevent further escalation and allow time to plan a potential meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in late October or early November.
