00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the small
00:09screen scares that might have flown under the radar. Some of these moments
00:12cover crucial plot points, so a spoiler alert is in effect.
00:22Number 10, Locked in the Refrigerator, Veronica Mars
00:30It's easily one of the CW drama's most chilling moments. High school private eye
00:37Veronica Mars has finally discovered the identity of her best friend's killer.
00:41Unfortunately, the villain she spent the first season chasing down gets the drop
00:45on her in a crucial moment. The murderer locks her in an abandoned refrigerator,
00:49douses it with gasoline, and threatens to ignite it if she doesn't lead him to some incriminating
00:53evidence she's hidden.
01:04She's in the fridge, Keith. You might want to check up on her.
01:07Fire swallows up the fridge as Veronica's father tries to save her. It may take place in a high
01:12school, but Veronica Mars is a show that really goes to some dark places.
01:25Number 9, The Railroad Crossing, Duel
01:28Master director Steven Spielberg made this disturbing movie of the week from 1971.
01:45A businessman cuts off a fuel truck on a deserted California highway and suddenly finds himself the
01:50target of its deranged driver. It's like Jaws, but instead of a great white shark,
01:54it's a relentless tanker truck. While stopped at a railroad crossing, the man is horrified as
01:59the truck begins physically pushing his car toward the passing train.
02:15It's as if the truck is trying to feed him to the passing train's crushing wheels. We're forced to
02:19watch as the man is caught between two dangerous, inhuman, and destructive machines. This is just
02:24one of the movie's many pitch-perfect suspense sequences.
02:47Number 8, Why Are You Repeating? Doctor Who
02:50The Weeping Angels get all the love, but this entity capable of possessing humans,
03:02stirs up chaos on a shuttle in this terrifying Doctor Who episode. Even as the Doctor tries to
03:07take control, the creature's eerie mimicking of their fellow passengers begins to drive them all to the
03:12brink of reason. Like a classic Twilight Zone episode, the real villain here may just be human
03:25suspicion and paranoia. The Doctor has traveled across many dimensions and encountered many,
03:30many monsters. It's especially unsettling when he goes up against an enemy that almost bests him.
03:35She's repeating, at exactly the same time. That's impossible. It's not even a delay.
03:42Oh wow, that is weird. I think you should all be very, very quiet. Have you got that?
03:48Number 7, Manson Leaps at the Judge, Helter Skelter. I'm gonna fight for my life. One way or another,
03:54you might as well let me do it with words. If you don't stop, I'll have to have you removed.
04:00If you don't stop, I'll have you removed. I've got a little system.
04:04In part two of this true crime mini-series, cult leader Charles Manson faces trial for his role in
04:09the Sharon Tate murders. After Steve Railsback's performance as Manson is spine-tinkling. One of
04:15his most memorable and blood-curdling moments is when his notorious character makes a daring
04:20and violent leap for the presiding judge. In this moment, we see him as the animalistic monster he is.
04:37The Manson family murders were still fresh in 1976. Seeing the man behind them so unhinged and wild
04:43might have been almost like reliving the terror of the real event.
04:46It's not my conspiracy. It's not my music. I hear what it relates. It's this rise. It's this kill.
04:56Why blame it on me? I didn't write the music.
04:59Number 6, Talkie Tina, The Twilight Zone.
05:05My name is Talkie Tina, and you'll be sorry.
05:09You better be nice to her. On screen, talking dolls are rarely as innocent as they seem.
05:14This classic Twilight Zone episode features Talkie Tina, a ghoulish little doll who raises
05:19the suspicions of a little girl's stepfather. It's when the doll finally gives the game away,
05:23making explicit threats toward him over the phone, that the episode really gets freaky.
05:28And it just keeps getting worse from there.
05:32You are going to be sorry.
05:35With that cutesy voice provided by the legendary June Foray and soulless face, Talkie Tina's
05:45threats are genuinely scary. She's not like Chucky. You never see her do anything all that weird.
05:50Sometimes, the unseen is the most unsettling, however.
05:53Hello? My name is Talkie Tina, and I'm going to kill you.
06:00Number 5, The Laboratory Ambush, Stranger Things.
06:03We're too late!
06:07What's going on? We're under attack.
06:09The season finale of season 2 sees all the story threads smashing together in a big,
06:14bold, and bloody showdown at Hawkins Lab. Put upon Will Byers is possessed by the Mind Flayer.
06:20A team of scientists watches as a group of vicious Demogorgons escape from the portal to the upside down.
06:29We gotta go. We gotta go.
06:44These monsters begin to unleash all hell on the lab. Most of the cast is left to flee for their lives,
06:49while the scientists are massacred by the otherworldly creatures. The chase is a breathless sequence
06:54that culminates in one of the show's most heartbreaking character deaths.
07:09Number 4, Pick the Right Door. Are you afraid of the dark?
07:13Pick the right door, and you'll go free. Pick the wrong door, and there he'll be.
07:21Nickelodeon's anthology series did an incredible job of exploring familiar settings and making them
07:26feel completely surreal. This funhouse-set horror story uses its setting to its full advantage.
07:32Josh learns the hard way that a game of Got Your Nose can have deadly consequences. The clown whose nose
07:48he stole pursues him, cornering him in a funhouse full of misshapen and oversized doors. The game is
07:54simple. Open the right door, and he's free to go. But open the wrong door, and Zebo the Clown will be
07:59there to seal his fate. It is truly nail-biting television, even after all these years.
08:12Number 3, Possessed. Trilogy of Terror. Good. I'll be waiting for you.
08:20In the third of three horror tales, a woman named Amelia finds herself trapped in her apartment by a
08:25doll. The figurine is said to be possessed by an ancient and malevolent spirit. After fighting
08:30for her life, Amelia finally gets the upper hand and tosses the doll into an oven. Thinking she's
08:35finally defeated the doll, she opens the burning oven where she's trapped it, only to be attacked
08:39once again. This time, though, the demon switches bodies. The last shot reveals Amelia, her face
08:53disfigured by the possession, lying in wait for her mother to arrive, presumably to murder her. She
08:58stabs absently at her floor, before bearing the same sharp, fang-like teeth that the doll used to have.
09:04Talk about twisting the knife.
09:14Number 2, The Nuclear Bomb. Threads.
09:22Praised for its realism, this British-Australian TV movie was released at the height of the Cold War.
09:27The movie's brutal depiction of a nuclear detonation over the UK is not easy to forget. And that's the
09:33point. We see the calamity through the eyes of several citizens.
09:51Some characters we came to care about die instantly, some flee in vain, and some are frozen with fear.
09:57Through the use of inserts, flashes, and even complete silence, the sequence shows how impossible it is
10:02to truly take in the experience. It was designed to stick with you, and it really does.

10:45From the mind of David Lynch, this murder mystery series got metaphysical very fast.
10:50The villain is not even a real person, but an evil entity called Bob, whose anthropomorphic form is
10:55somehow scarier than any abstract image you could think up. His most memorable moment is in Twin
11:01Peaks' second season, when he appears to Maddie in a vision. Bob makes his way slowly from the kitchen
11:06and into the living room, climbing over the couch and crawling right into the camera.
11:10A maniacal smile is glued to his face the whole way. It's so simple and so terrifying.
