00:00Last question.
00:01Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at questions that the Fantastic Four first steps left up in the air.
00:07This means spoilers.
00:10Number 10. Do Ben and Rachel get together?
00:13In the comics, the love of Ben Grimm's life is Alicia Masters,
00:17a sculptor who is blind who Kerry Washington played in the Tim Story movies.
00:20You know, being different isn't always a bad thing.
00:26Trust me, this ain't one of them times.
00:30As heartwarming as their comic book romance is, Alicia is absent from first steps.
00:35Maybe Marvel didn't want to send the message that only a person without sight could love Ben.
00:40Suddenly giving Alicia the ability to see would have opened another can of worms.
00:44It makes sense why the filmmakers created an original character named Rachel Rosman, played by Natasha Lyonne.
00:49There's a clear attraction between the two, with Ben eventually taking the first step.
00:54Their relationship status remains somewhat ambiguous, though.
00:57If they're in a committed relationship, we have some other questions, but we'll let Brody from Mallrats ask them.
01:04The thing. Is this dork made of orange rock like the rest of his body?
01:07It's a superhero's secret.
01:09Number 9. What happened to Sue and Johnny's father?
01:12Sue and Johnny's mother isn't around anymore, but what exactly became of their dad?
01:17Johnny is Johnny.
01:18Sue vaguely mentions that they didn't have the best relationship.
01:23In the comic continuity, their father blames himself for a tragic car accident that leaves Sue and Johnny without a mother.
01:29He goes down a dark path involving gambling and incarceration.
01:32Dad, this is insane!
01:34Dad, speak that way to me!
01:37In another comic continuity, he's a scientist who prioritizes work over family.
01:41Promise me. Look after each other.
01:47We know little about him in the film, but assuming he's alive, it's telling that he didn't get in contact after becoming a grandfather or after the Silver Surfer arrived.
01:57In the comics, though, Sue and Johnny's father is named Franklin Storm.
02:01Sue passes the name onto her son in the film, suggesting she still cares about him.
02:06Number 8. Will we ever revisit Earth 838?
02:09For a period, we all thought John Krasinski would be the MCU's Reed Richards.
02:14Our theory was correct.
02:16For about five minutes.
02:17I'm the smartest man alive.
02:20Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four.
02:24Hello, Steven.
02:25Fantastic Four.
02:25Didn't you guys chart in the 60s?
02:27Then Wanda turned him into ground meat.
02:29Please.
02:31I have children of my own.
02:33I understand your pain.
02:35Is their mother still alive?
02:38Yes.
02:39Good.
02:40There will be someone left to raise them.
02:43While that took place on Earth 838, First Steps sets itself on Earth 828.
02:48In this reality, there's seemingly no Illuminati, and the Fantastic Four are the only superheroes.
02:54We thought realities might collide, although there's no mention of Earth 838 here.
02:58Krasinski's Reed notably left children behind.
03:02With Doom on the horizon and the multiverse saga reaching its conclusion, perhaps one of
03:07the future Avengers movies will explore what happened to Reed's family on Earth 838.
03:11However, this is starting to look more and more like one of those MCU plot threads that
03:15ultimately goes nowhere.
03:17I heralds your end.
03:20Number 7.
03:21Will Reed and Sue try for baby number two?
03:24First Steps opens with the revelation that Sue is pregnant.
03:27Why are you being weird?
03:29You're not being weird.
03:31She and Reed tried having a baby for two years, although it seemed hopeless until now.
03:36As such, a second child likely won't come easily to them.
03:39But it's not outside the realm of possibility.
03:42Are you pregnant?
03:49Yeah, I'm pregnant.
03:50Yes, yes.
03:51How did you know that?
03:52The comics eventually saw the couple conceive a daughter, Valeria Richards.
03:56Of course, to say that Valeria's birth was difficult would be an understatement.
04:00In fact, Sue initially believed she miscarried.
04:03Attempting to save his sister, Franklin sent Valeria to another reality where a different
04:08invisible woman and Dr. Doom raised her.
04:10Down the line, Valeria becomes Marvel Girl and later Brainstorm.
04:14If time travel factors in, perhaps an older Valeria could appear in the MCU sooner than
04:19later.
04:19You are gonna be the best mom.
04:23Oh my god.
04:24And you are gonna be the best dad.
04:25Just kidding.
04:26You are out of your depth.
04:28But we, we're gonna be the best uncles ever.
04:30Number 6.
04:31When did Doom take over Latveria?
04:34The mid-credits scene only provides a glimpse of Dr. Doom.
04:37Although, another fleeting moment gives us an idea of his role in this reality.
04:41Miss Van Dyne, I am not some common criminal that can be distracted by your prattling.
04:47You are nothing to Doom.
04:50At a United Nations meeting, the representative from Latveria is missing.
04:54Latveria is a small country in Europe, but its ruler has much bigger aspirations.
04:59Its monarch is, of course, Victor Von Doom.
05:02Yet, it's not indicated when or how he took over the country.
05:06For that matter, we don't know if this Doom has an established relationship with the
05:10Fantastic Four.
05:11In most iterations, Doom's origins are linked to our heroes.
05:15This is gonna be fun.
05:17In First Steps, though, he seemingly wasn't involved in the space mission that gave the
05:21Four their powers.
05:22Whether or not they've met before, they're about to become arch-rivals.
05:26Doom does not surrender.
05:29Number 5.
05:30Does Norrin Rad exist in this universe?
05:32Norrin Rad is often depicted as the Silver Surfer.
05:36First Steps takes a different approach, combining Rad's origin story with Shalabal's.
05:41Are you the protectors of this world?
05:44Yes, we are.
05:46Your planet is now marked for death.
05:49The comics see Rad volunteer himself to Galactus, becoming the Devourer's Herald so
05:54his planet will be spared.
05:55It is known by many names.
05:58My people called it Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds.
06:05Rad leaves behind Shalabal, his lover and the planet's empress.
06:08In First Steps, it's Shalabal who assumes the Silver Surfer mantle, saving her world along
06:14with her daughter.
06:15Hold your loved ones close.
06:16And speak the words you've been afraid to speak.
06:21The change works, with Julia Garner literally shining in the role.
06:24Although, we are curious if Norrin Rad is part of this universe.
06:28Maybe Rad was the father of Shalabal's child, and she made this sacrifice for both of them.
06:33In any case, there are plenty of other universes where Rad is the Silver Surfer.
06:37Treasure each moment with her, and tell her she was Rad.
06:42Number 4.
06:43Where did Galactus wind up?
06:45Reed plans to teleport his world somewhere else beyond Galactus' reach.
06:49When that doesn't pan out, the Fantastic Four decide to send Galactus through a portal.
06:58They pull this off with help from the Silver Surfer, who throws herself into the portal with
07:03Galactus.
07:04Their world is safe.
07:05For now.
07:06While Galactus might have been sent to a galaxy far, far away, that doesn't mean he's dead.
07:11He could still find a way back, devouring some other planets along the way.
07:15On that note, could he have been sent to Earth-616 where the Avengers reside?
07:20Run in the car.
07:23We're also curious about what happened to Galactus' giant ship.
07:26We mean, like, it didn't get sucked into the portal with him.
07:29So, is it just drifting in space without a pilot?
07:32Number 3.
07:33What about that space crisis?
07:35Thunderbolts, or the new Avengers, as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine might call it, concluded
07:40with our heroes discussing a mysterious space crisis.
07:43We're losing credibility.
07:44Which we had very little to begin with.
07:46And now there's this huge space crisis and no one's telling us about it.
07:49Before that can be addressed, the ship with a 4-emblem arrives in Earth's atmosphere.
07:55It's a cool ship.
08:04We assumed that First Steps would end with the Fantastic Four crossing between Earth-828
08:09and Earth-616, picking up where Thunderbolts left off.
08:13While the ending may set up Avengers Doomsday, First Steps is otherwise self-contained, with
08:18very few references to the larger MCU.
08:21Our heroes have the technology to cross realities, but we still don't know what will prompt their
08:25arrival in Thunderbolts.
08:27We're not even 100% sure if the four are the ones piloting the ship.
08:31Maybe Doom hijacked it, traveling between worlds with little Franklin.
08:35Family.
08:36It's about connecting to something bigger than yourself.
08:40Number 2.
08:41What other powers does Franklin have?
08:44Although he seems like a normal baby, Galactus insists that Franklin has unparalleled powers
08:49waiting to be unleashed.
08:50The question on everybody's mind, will the baby be born with superpowers?
08:55Franklin demonstrates what he can do in the final act when it appears Sue has made the ultimate
08:59sacrifice.
09:00He miraculously revives his mother, suggesting that Franklin might be the most powerful being
09:05on this Earth.
09:06It has to be us.
09:07Franklin is also among the smartest.
09:09In the mid-credits scene, which takes place four years later, Franklin can already comprehend
09:15advanced literature.
09:16As Franklin's mind continues to expand, so will his abilities, which include telekinesis,
09:22precognition, and reality manipulation on the printed page.
09:26We don't know how the MCU will depict all of his powers yet, but one thing's for certain.
09:30You wouldn't want Franklin falling into the wrong hands.
09:33You know you're supposed to sleep when the baby sleeps.
09:35He thinks the baby actually sleeps.

09:53Number 1.
09:54Is the board part of Silver Surfer's body?
09:57So the surfboard, is that part of your body or is that...
10:00Oh wait, we guess they did answer that.
10:03It's not for the record.
10:05Number 1.
10:06What are Doom's plans with Franklin?
10:08During the mid-credits scene, Sue returns to find an ominous figure looming over her child.
10:13While we don't see his face, there is no doubt that this is Dr. Doom.
10:18We can do this.
10:19Nothing's going to change.
10:20The real question is what he plans to do with Franklin.
10:24Although he hasn't demonstrated it yet, Franklin is bound to pick up tricks like reality warping
10:29and the ability to create pocket universes.
10:32This could allow Doom to create a world that he rules over.
10:35A battle world, if you will.
10:37I leave.
10:38I also take away.
10:43Doom might also use Franklin to traverse the multiverse,
10:46assembling the Avengers, X-Men, and other heroes for a secret war.
10:50We'll find out in another year when Avengers Doomsday hits theaters,
10:54while the multiverse saga will wrap up in 2027.
10:59What questions do you have about the MCU's future?
11:14Let us know in the comments.
