00:00What are you hiding, Peter?
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the craziest and most interesting conspiracy theories about the
00:10Spider-Man films,
00:11each backed by at least a little bit of evidence or reasoning.
00:14Hello. Oh, so you want to pop the question tonight, huh?
00:20Number 10. Some shady manipulation happens with the spell in No Way Home.
00:24Because he forgot I now have higher duties.
00:26Higher duties?
00:27The Sorcerer Supreme has higher duties, yes.
00:30Wait, I thought you were the Sorcerer Supreme.
00:32No, he got it on a technicality because I blipped for five years.
00:36Oh, well, congratulations.
00:37There's something off about Doctor Strange's behavior in No Way Home.
00:41At times, he feels distant and potentially even secretive.
00:44Strange even gets into a fight with Spider-Man, and at multiple moments displays a sense of self-righteousness.
00:50During his spell to make everyone forget Peter Parker, Peter interrupts multiple times, seemingly causing the spell to go wrong.
01:02Did it work?
01:03No. You changed my spell six times.
01:07Five times.
01:08You changed my spell. You don't do that. I told you, and that is why.
01:12Strange himself suggests that's what happened.
01:14But his odd behavior and arrogance leading up to it, including his ignoring Wong's warning,
01:19leaves the door open for the possibility that everything actually went as Strange intended.
01:23Perhaps this is Strange tampering with the spell as an act of rebellion against Wong,
01:28the new Sorcerer Supreme.
01:29Or crazier.
01:30That is not Doctor Strange, but someone in disguise.
01:34I'm not giving you this!
01:36Whoa!
01:37Ah!
01:42Ah!
01:44Ah!
01:46Ah!
01:47Give me that back!
01:49Number 9.
01:50The ending of Spider-Man 2 takes place after No Way Home.
01:53That's nonsense.
01:55Spider-Man was trying to stop my fusion reactor.
01:58So I stopped him.
02:00I had him.
02:01By the throat.
02:0317 years after Spider-Man 2, Dr. Octopus was back on the big screen in the Spider-Verse.
02:09At the end of the 2004 movie, he sacrifices himself, saving Tobey Maguire's Peter and the city.
02:15It's self-sustaining now.
02:17Think.
02:19Unless...
02:21The river.
02:24Drown it.
02:27I'll do it.
02:30But what if the much newer movie actually takes place before the older one's ending?
02:35At least for Octavius.
02:36In No Way Home, Octavius seemingly implies the moment he was pulled into this reality was during the climactic fight
02:43in Spider-Man 2,
02:44shortly before his sacrificial death.
02:46The MCU's Peter then essentially removes the evil from Octavius,
02:50and Otto helps the good guys before returning to his home universe.
02:54Logically, he could return to the very moment he vanished.
02:57This theory would explain his change of heart and sacrifice in Spider-Man 2.
03:02In the palm of your hand.
03:04Peter?
03:08Otto.
03:10Well, it's good to see you, dear boy.
03:13It's good to see you.
03:15You're all grown up.
03:18How are you?
03:21Trying to do better.
03:24Number 8.
03:25Peter Parker is a Clone.
03:27You're the Spider-ling.
03:29Crime-fighting spider.
03:30You're Spider-boy?
03:34Spider-Man.
03:36Not in that onesie, you're not.
03:38It's not a onesie.
03:40We know there are Spider-Men in countless universes,
03:42and that Marvel film plotlines are often adapted from comic book plotlines.
03:47However, the controversial clone saga from the mid-90s has not been tackled on the big screen.
03:52With that storyline about there being clones of Peter Parker out there,
03:55there has been fan speculation that someday it could be addressed in a film.
04:00Parker.
04:03He's headed to Oscorp, and your daughter's there right now.
04:07Tom Holland even suggested he would be down for that.
04:10And knowing that storyline exists in the comic books,
04:13it is possible that at least one of the three main big screen Peter Parkers
04:17is actually a clone rather than the original.
04:19After all, we know the films consist of shady experiments,
04:23powerful corporations, and identity twists.
04:37Number 7.
04:38The symbiote hive mind can sense Spider-Man across the multiverse.
04:42Are you hiding stuff from me?
04:4680 billion light-years of hive knowledge across universes
04:51would explode your tiny little brain.
04:54What does that even mean?
04:57The post-credits scene of Venom, Let There Be Carnage,
05:00dives into the idea that the symbiote has expansive knowledge across universes
05:04and that it could very well be hiding things.
05:06We also know the symbiote hive mind connects symbiotes to each other and their hosts.
05:13Don't hurt me.
05:14Just give me a chair!
05:15What about my uncle?
05:16Did you give him a chance?
05:18Did you?
05:28So if we take those two concepts,
05:31we can extrapolate it into a theory that would really alter the way we view the Spider-Verse,
05:35which is that the symbiote hive mind can sense and track Spider-Man across the multiverse.
05:40This would mean that not only is the connection between symbiotes much deeper than we thought,
05:44but the connection between each universe's Spider-Man would be deeper as well.
05:48Let's go skinny-dip!
05:50I don't think we should skinny-dip.
05:51Sir, you have to pay the bill.
05:53What is happening?
05:54No!
05:54No, we just got here!
05:55No, not again!
05:56Oh!
06:01And there he goes.
06:03Without paying the bill, no tips, nothing.
06:10Number 6.
06:11Mysterio doesn't actually die at the end of Far From Home.
06:14You told me you wanted to run after that girl!
06:18Help me!
06:19MJ!
06:24Peter?
06:25What's going on?
06:26I know this isn't real!
06:28Do you, though?
06:30MJ!
06:32MJ!
06:36We know Mysterio is a master manipulator and illusionist.
06:39So, even after his apparent death in Far From Home,
06:42it's worth questioning whether he's actually dead.
06:45Maybe he's not.
06:46How could this be?
06:47Especially with Edith implying this is not an illusion.
06:51Is this real?
06:53All illusions are down, Peter.
06:55Well, there are a few things that potentially keep the door cracked open.
06:59One, knowing his trickiness and ability to imitate voices,
07:03it is possible that Mysterio has audio of Edith's voice.
07:06Two, when Peter asks for confirmation,
07:08Edith's glasses don't light up like they typically do.
07:11And three, Mysterio uses an illusion of himself dying once in this scene,
07:15so why not twice?
07:16Plus, earlier, we see an illusion depicting many Mysterios.
07:20This would be an elaborate scheme, but not out of character.
07:24Deep down.
07:26You know I'm right.
07:32Number 5.
07:34J. Jonah Jameson knows Peter Parker's Spider-Man from the start.
07:37Who is Spider-Man?
07:38He's a criminal, that's who he is.
07:40A vigilante.
07:42A public menace.
07:43What's he doing on my front page?
07:45Breaking news!
07:46Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
07:47But what if it's not breaking news for J. Jonah Jameson, publisher of the Daily Bugle?
07:52They're crap.
07:53Crap.
07:54Crap.
07:55Mega crap.
07:56I'll give you 200 bucks for all of them.
07:58That seems a little low.
08:00What if he's known this truth all along?
08:02Peter has been working for him and taking suspiciously good photos of Spider-Man,
08:06as shown in the first film.
08:07Part of this theory is a sign of respect to Jameson,
08:10because it insinuates he's journalistically aware and intelligent enough to recognize what's right under his nose.
08:15Jameson's smear campaign against Spider-Man could be to fully engage Peter
08:20and get him optimally involved to help create new great content.
08:23Jameson might not be stopping there, either.
08:26Spidey photos from other publications make us wonder if he could be selling Peter's photos for profit.
08:31Not impossible.
08:32It's a fake.
08:34Empire State Photographic Department confirms it.
08:42Pack your things.
08:43Get out of my building.
08:44I was just...
08:45You're fired!
08:46Number four.
08:48Wong still remembers Peter Parker after the spell in No Way Home.
08:52Come on, Wong.
08:55Hasn't he been through enough?
09:04Just leave me out of this.
09:06Fine.
09:09Fine.
09:11Doctor Strange's spell in No Way Home is supposed to make everyone in the world forget Peter Parker is Spider
09:16-Man.
09:17In the end, the world forgets Peter, period.
09:20Although, there is a possibility Nick Fury remembers him, given that he was likely not on Earth at the time.
09:28Everybody back to work!
09:29But here's our main memory-related theory to chew on.
09:33Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, is excluded from the spell and thus remembers Peter's identity.
09:38Strange tries to convince Wong that they should conduct this spell,
09:41but Wong is not on board and tells Strange to leave him out of it.
09:45So, maybe Strange then literally leaves him out of it.
09:48After all, Wong holds higher authority and there's a slyness to Strange's response.
09:52Magic loopholes are fascinating, aren't they?
09:55Is there anything else?
10:09No.
10:15Iron Man created the spider that turned Peter into Spider-Man.
10:19No, no, no, please, please, please.
10:21Let's have it.
10:21If you don't understand, this is all I have.
10:23I'm nothing without this suit.
10:25If you're nothing without this suit, then you shouldn't have it.
10:27Okay?
10:29You gotta sound like my dad.
10:30We know about Stark Industries' immense technological capabilities and Tony Stark's influence on Spider-Man's journey.
10:36But what if he hasn't just taken Peter under his wing, but intentionally put him in this position to start?
10:42If you think about it, we never see the origin story of Tom Holland's Spider-Man on screen.
10:46That leaves the door open for a twist.
10:48Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's spider bites occur in labs, at Columbia University and Oscorp, respectively.
10:55Thanks.
11:00Stark Labs fits the bill.
11:02Perhaps Tony scouted out this kid, knowing he had what it took.
11:05This would recontextualize their relationship.
11:08Another origin conspiracy theory would be that a government experiment was behind this.
11:12But the Iron Man theory, while still unlikely, earns the spot on our list.
11:24Number two.
11:25MJ has a familial connection to a major villain or hero.
11:29She's very observant and intelligent.
11:31MJ comes across as someone who would be the first to recognize a major secret hiding in plain sight.
11:36Perhaps, for example, that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
11:40What are you hiding, Peter?
11:44I'm just kidding, I don't care. Bye.
11:46It even seems possible she's known Peter's identity as Spider-Man for longer than she lets on.
11:51Maybe even in Spider-Man Homecoming.
11:53Oh no.
11:54My friends are up there!
11:54What?
11:55Uh, don't worry ma'am, everything's gonna be okay.
11:57Excuse me! Excuse me!
11:58Another theory poses the idea that MJ is a spy.
12:01Which would explain why she seems so much more aware of Peter's secret ventures than others.
12:06But our main conspiracy theory here, which would potentially be connected to those other ideas,
12:11is that MJ herself has a huge secret.
12:13That she is related to a major villain or hero in the MCU.
12:17How game-changing would that be?
12:19MJ, I...
12:20I'm Spider-Man.
12:22What?
12:23That's what you were gonna say, that you're Spider-Man.
12:27No.
12:29I'm not Spider-Man.
12:30I mean, I've been watching you for like a while now, it's kind of obvious.
12:37I'm not Spider-Man, I mean, what would make you think that I was Spider-Man?
12:49Before we continue, check out this single from SoundMojo's album current, EDM Transformed.
12:55Check out the full track and album below.
13:111. Bruce Campbell's cameos in Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy show Mysterio has been spying.
13:16What's your name, kid?
13:18The Human Spider.
13:20The Human Spider, that's it? That's the best you got?
13:23Yeah.
13:24Oh, that sucks.
13:25With Bruce Campbell's cameos in all three Raimi films, first as a wrestling ring announcer,
13:30then an usher, and finally a Mater D, we wonder if something deeper is going on.
13:34There were some rumors at one point that he was going to play Mysterio.
13:37Given what transpires with Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio in Far From Home,
13:41it doesn't seem that far-fetched to think the villain could have been keeping an eye on Spider-Man before,
13:46including ones in other universes.
13:48It's insane.
13:50Sorry.
13:52It's really cool.
13:54Don't ever apologize for being the smartest one in the room.
13:57Take, for example, Tobey Maguire's Spidey.
14:00One potentially game-changing theory is that Bruce Campbell's cameos actually portray either a spy for Mysterio
14:05or multiversal versions of Mysterio himself.
14:08That would be wild, that's for sure.
14:10Name, please?
14:11Parker.
14:12Peter.
14:16Ah, here we are.
14:18Table for two.
14:20Becker.
14:22Parker.
14:23That is what I said.
14:24Becker.
14:26What mind-blowing Spider-Man theory are you on board with?
