00:00:47Ladies and gentlemen, we welcome you to three solid hours of WCW wrestling action.

00:00:54This is Monday Nitro, from Fort Wayne and the Isle of County Memorial Coliseum.

00:01:01Tony Schiavone, The Parade Bobby Heenan, and the one and only living legend Larry Tabisco.

00:01:08And boy, oh boy, do we have a lot going on tonight.

00:01:12Some of the greatest wrestling action in the world, combined with some startling footage of what went down and sold out just two days ago.

00:01:22Combined with a major announcement at high once again, everyone.

00:01:26And brain, we saw the top of the program, the announcement from Rowdy Roddy Piper.

00:01:32Hollywood Hogan and Sting will battle to decide once and for all who the world champion is.

00:01:39It'll be on February 22nd, it will be at Super Brawl 8.

00:01:43Well, you know, Bischoff and Hollywood Hogan came to sold out,

00:01:46thinking that Rowdy Roddy Piper and J.J. Dillon were just gonna hand him the world championship.

00:01:52On a gold and silver platter.

00:01:54Uh-uh, you're gonna have to earn it, Hogan.

00:01:56And you're gonna have to earn it the hard way in that ring.

00:01:59And you know, as much as we were excited and thrilled about that big announcement,

00:02:03we were sickened as to what happened between the Giants and Kevin Nash.

00:02:08Fans, the Giant has been injured.

00:02:10We have not been able to talk to the Giant, talk to his doctors to find out the severity of his injury.

00:02:16But we're gonna show you later on the footage of what happened at the hands of Kevin Nash.

00:02:20And I can tell you this, when you see it, you will be sickened at your stomach about what happened.

00:02:25Most vicious, vicious move I've ever seen.

00:02:27We're gonna talk more about that and show you the footage.

00:02:30Congratulations, the living legend Larry Zabisco and your win against Scott Hall.

00:02:34Although I'm sure it's not the way you wanted to win that match two days ago.

00:02:37Any victory is sweet, but it was tainted. Having Scott Hall's neck in my arms while he was screaming uncle was one thing.

00:02:45But Dusty Rhodes, who became a cancerous cell in the body of tradition, is something I can't even talk about.

00:02:52Ladies and gentlemen, you heard him right, and we will talk about it during the course of this program.

00:03:01Let's go to the ring. Let's get things started this week on WCW Monday Nitro.

00:03:05Look at this crowd, if you will, ready for the great action.

00:03:12We're gonna start out with two fine cruiserweights, El Dandy from Mexico to face the Ultimo Dragon one-on-one.

00:03:23And I talked about you can see for yourself what all went down.

00:03:27That's sold out. The Encore presentation will be coming your way tomorrow night and on Thursday as well.

00:03:33You can make the appropriate phone call and join us if you want to see it one more time

00:03:37or if you just missed it. But fans, a little bit later on, we're gonna take you back to the footage,

00:03:42show you what happened, show you what went down. It was, it was really, really,

00:03:47words cannot describe the feeling that we felt when we saw the Giant hit that map.

00:03:52Actually, you better give them a warning when we show this footage. It is not a, it is not a pretty sight.

00:03:58It will make you sick to your stomach the way that the Giant went down.

00:04:03Now the Ultimo Dragon, the former Cruiserweight champ against things, against El Dandy and Randy Anderson is the referee.

00:04:11And make no mistake about it, Brain, as we, as we went off the air and sold out in Dayton, Ohio,

00:04:17in front of that sellout crowd a couple of days ago, there was no question that the NWO remains in disarray.

00:04:23Oh, no question about it. You notice now, Scott Hall went to the ring with a chair.

00:04:28I don't know if he was gonna use it on Savage Watch. Hogan got in the middle of them.

00:04:32There's a lot of trouble in the NWO. A lot of trouble within the NWO and a lot of great action here

00:04:37tonight live on WCW Monday Nitro. And as we said, we are on the air, ladies and gentlemen,

00:04:44beginning tonight for three hours each and every week. What do we have here?

00:04:48Well, we look into the arena. That's Raven's flock.

00:04:51A member of Raven's flock. Weren't they told to stay away from ringside? Haven't they been warned

00:04:58about that? They apparently are here somewhere.

00:05:00Once you give them a demerit, tick them out.

00:05:03Well, if they buy a ticket, there's not much you can do.

00:05:05Well, now we have been handed a note here that they have actually paid for these seats.

00:05:09There you go.

00:05:12So they have gone into the pockets, and that's why they are ringside. All right.

00:05:17El Dandy sending the Ultimo Dragon in. Here's that balancing maneuver of his. And that really

00:05:24gets the opponent off balance himself.

00:05:26Well, you don't know which way to look up or down before you know it. The Dragon nailed you with

00:05:30combinations right there. Two front kicks, back kick right to the sternum and follows him right in.

00:05:35Doesn't give the man time to recuperate. Dragon, great physical condition, but he missed one.

00:05:40Handspring did not connect, and El Dandy slaps him down with a hard right cross in the face.

00:05:48El Dandy, scoop slam. Down he goes. We've seen El Dandy in many tag team matches. Six-man tags,

00:05:56eight-man tags, in singles competition. Not much, but looking good here. Springing off the middle,

00:06:01turnbuckle to a back elbow, and almost got the three count. Into the ropes goes Ultimo.

00:06:08Dragon lands on his feet, trying to kick, and nailed him right in the head with that

00:06:14enziguri kick that time. El Dandy grabbed him, but that was a mistake. Ultimate Dragon

00:06:20never stops moving. Tremendous movement. See, right here, even though caught him, kept his balance,

00:06:25moved the man around. Climbed out, nailed him again, tried to keep him off balance till he gets

00:06:30up on top, and this is dangerous for both men. Dragon looking around. Would be a big win for the

00:06:36Ultimo Dragon against El Dandy. We said earlier as he came to the ring that he is one of the top

00:06:40cruiserweights in Mexico. And great timing that time by the Ultimo Dragon, as El Dandy came off with

00:06:47an attempt at a double axe handle. Up on the, oh boy. Masai moonsault that time for the middle route,

00:06:53and the Dragon Sleeper put on. That's it. That is it, you're right.

00:06:56Ring the bell. Randy Anderson comes with the bell. They don't get out of the Dragon Sleeper.

00:07:03Well, that was Dandy. Not for El Dandy, but for the Ultimo Dragon, it was Dandy.

00:07:09Tonight, we're going to be taking you live to me and Gene Okerlund. He is in Chattanooga, Tennessee,

00:07:13with our first Nitro Party grand prize winner, along with the Nitro Girls. As a matter of fact,

00:07:19we come back, we're going to be going live to me and Gene Okerlund, and we're going to be having

00:07:22some of the greatest wrestling acts in the world when we continue live on Monday Nitro.

00:07:27As if he's still alive.

00:07:28Was I disgusted by what Nash, think the Giants sold out? Absolutely not.

00:07:33Was I surprised? Not at all.

00:07:37Every time the NWO steps in the ring, they stoop to an all-time low.

00:07:42But this be a warning to everyone in WCW, they're playing for keeps, and so are we.

00:07:52Welcome back, fans, to WCW Monday Nitro. We are live in Fort Wayne,

00:07:57Indiana. Very proud to be bringing you three silent hours tonight of WCW action. And tonight,

00:08:02our feature bout is going to feature the total package Lex Luger going up against Scott Hall,

00:08:07one-on-one. And we talked a lot about the disarray that is, that has gripped the New

00:08:11World Order. We saw that it sold out. What can we expect tonight?

00:08:14Well, NWO's having a lot of internal problems. What kind of problems are they going to have at the end

00:08:19of the evening if Luger gets Scott Hall on that torture rack?

00:08:22If Luger gets Scott Hall on the torture rack. And WCW, you heard from Lex Luger a few moments ago,

00:08:27getting tighter, banding together more than ever now, Larry.

00:08:31Yeah, WCW's getting stronger as the dissension spreads within the New World Order. And my advice

00:08:36to Mr. Lex Luger is, don't give up. Scott Hall is beatable. Put him in that rack, Lex,

00:08:41and don't you ever let him down.

00:08:43Okay, right before the break, we talked about our very first grand prize winner of a Nitro

00:08:47party featuring Mean Gene Oakland and the Nitro Girls was all the way in Chattanooga, Tennessee,

00:08:53at UT Chattanooga. Let's take you live to Mean Gene Oakland right now in Chattanooga.

00:09:09Chattanooga. I'm Gene Oakland with our grand prize winners, our very first grand prize winners

00:09:22rocking and rolling. And what would a party be, a Nitro Party, without the Nitro Girls?

00:10:38because you may be our next Nitro Party winner. And what a grand sight it is tonight. We're going to be

00:10:43playing games here tonight, having a good time. We have got action. Are you having fun? Oh, yeah. I

00:10:51can't blame you. We all are. Cody Schiavone, I'm going to take it back to you. I hope you guys are

00:10:59having a fun time back there in Fort Wayne. Is it cold? Yes, it is cold, Gene. We may never see Gene

00:11:04Ogreland again. And you know, by the time that party's over, he may have a full head of hair. Wow. The

00:11:11fever that is Nitro that is all over the United States, as you can see in Chattanooga with our

00:11:17grand prize Nitro Party winner. Boy, they have fun at those sorority houses, don't they?

00:11:23Fraternity houses. I don't think they'll be studying much tonight for the finals.

00:11:29Brad Armstrong comes out in the next bout here on WCW Monday Nitro. We'll be going back to

00:11:33Mean Gene periodically during the course of the program. Check out the shirt, the Armstrong curse,

00:11:39something Brad's been trying to break for years. If he can break it against Goldberg,

00:11:45he's done a heck of a number. Well, as Armstrong makes his way in,

00:11:52you talked about Goldberg. What a force. What an intense individual. What a man. And what an ovation.

00:12:00I don't know if man's the right word. This guy looks more like a machine to me. He's a monster.

00:12:06With a couple of limbs.

00:12:13And everyone's really getting behind this guy. They like his style. No nonsense. I'm gonna go out

00:12:19there and just tear some limbs off. When men were men and women didn't vote. Well, the fact that

00:12:25Goldberg has won the matches, certainly fans would seem to gravitate to cheer for this man.

00:12:32But look how he's been winning the matches. He's been decisive each and every one. I mean,

00:12:37right now he goes, almost goes down to one knee against Brad Armstrong. That's really the closest

00:12:42anyone's gotten to him. Well, Armstrong threw that shirt in his face, tried to jump the gun. He knows

00:12:46he needs every chance possible against Goldberg. Didn't have any effect whatsoever. And Goldberg

00:12:52will waste no time with you. Look at the power of this man. Muscles up Brad Armstrong. Look how long

00:12:59he holds him out. Turns it into a slam. Look at him. Look at the eyes on that man.

00:13:05He's not here in Fort Wayne. He's someplace else.

00:13:10Brad Armstrong wants to get out of Fort Wayne on his hands and knees.

00:13:13The crawl home. Just to get away from Goldberg.

00:13:17And Goldberg just stalking his opponent. Focus, determination. So many adjectives used to describe

00:13:25Bill Goldberg. And Goldberg coming in and look at Brad Armstrong. Great veteran. Giving it his

00:13:31eyes off. Pounding away. Goldberg. That was a smart move. Brad tried to cut him off. Coming through

00:13:35the ropes when he... Goldberg didn't have the balance, but still has no effect on Goldberg.

00:13:40Nothing at all. By Stabbrook. And throws him down with ease.

00:13:48How would you like this man to come looking for you?

00:13:52No thank you. And I know a lot of wrestlers in WCW would say the same thing.

00:13:57Into the corner. Goldberg had a steam. Put the brakes on. Showing his great

00:14:01intuitive patron and quickness as well. And Goldberg. Oh.

00:14:05Spears him down. They plastered him.

00:14:09This don't look good for Armstrong.

00:14:15Goldberg up. The jackpot.

00:14:20He wins again. Silver says at 820.

00:14:23Goldberg didn't even need the Armstrong curse for this one.

00:14:31We have never seen a man quite like this.

00:14:35Bill Goldberg once again runs through the competition in WCW. Let's hear some comments

00:14:42from Diamond Dallas Page.

00:14:45When I was watching the pay-per-view sold out. And I saw what Nash did to the giant.

00:14:50He gave me goose pimples. He said, chill up the spine because

00:14:55like the G-Man always says, you can't fool gravity.

00:14:58The way you dropped him on the back of his head in the ash.

00:15:01That wasn't right, man. 475 pound comes up and then comes down on his head.

00:15:08Wasn't right.

00:15:27We finally saw the matchup of the two biggest athletes in professional wrestling.

00:15:33The giant versus Kevin Nash. And now we have exclusive footage from this past Saturday.

00:15:38It sold out. Let's go to the footage.

00:15:41This was one of the scariest moments ever in professional wrestling.

00:15:45Kevin Nash and the jackknife powerbomb. The impact of 500 pounds of the giant as he came crashing down

00:15:52onto the back of his head and to the neck. A very scary situation this past Saturday at sold out as

00:15:59we see the various angles on the replay. Kevin Nash victorious over the giant at sold out. And here it is again.

00:16:12In slow motion, we see Nash lifting the giant up into the air.

00:16:16And 500 plus pounds of impact of the giant.

00:16:24He's helpless at this point. Crashing down on the back of his neck.

00:16:32And joining me at this time, the chairman of the WCW executive committee, J.J. Dillon.

00:16:37And J.J., I understand you have a statement to make.

00:16:40You know, Mike, one of my closest friends for many, many years is not under the

00:16:46name of the team.

00:16:48And the enforcer, Arn Anderson.

00:16:48And as we all know, Arn Anderson had neck surgery this past year.

00:16:53And when the operation was over, the doctors in effect told him that his career was over.

00:16:58And that might have been an opportune time for WCW and wrestling in general to look at our practices

00:17:04and look at our rules.

00:17:06But it seems that it always takes

00:17:08a single tragic incident to really focus on a particular situation.

00:17:15And anyone that was in Dayton or that watched, sold out on pay-per-view knows exactly what I'm

00:17:21talking about.

00:17:22And the giant is a prime example that with each passing year and with each generation,

00:17:29athletes in general, with all sports, they're bigger, they're faster, they're stronger,

00:17:34they're more powerful.

00:17:36And other sports have attempted to make adjustments in their rules

00:17:40to try and compensate for the bigger, more powerful athlete of the 90s.

00:17:45With hockey, everybody, to my knowledge, is required to wear a protective helmet.

00:17:49With football, they've stopped the spearing with the helmets.

00:17:53And here, with all the technology of developing the modern football helmet,

00:17:58when the giant or any wrestler goes in the ring,

00:18:00they don't have the benefit of protective pads or helmets.

00:18:04And I'd really hope to come out here tonight and have some kind of an update on the giant, but

00:18:12some tests have been performed and the results aren't back and there's more tests being called for.

00:18:18And really, the people, Mike, that are closest to him are being very tight-lipped about the situation.

00:18:23And I just sensed that really it doesn't look very good.

00:18:30But the time has come for WCW to take some action.

00:18:36So effective immediately, right now, the jackknife powerbomb or any version of it is now barred at WCW.

00:18:50And this is not to single out Kevin Nash.

00:18:55I'm talking about any wrestler that attempts to execute the jackknife powerbomb or any version of it.

00:19:01And any wrestler that uses it will be disqualified, will be fined, and I'm talking about a substantial fine.

00:19:08And Kevin Nash, if you ever attempt to execute that move again on another wrestler, WCW will

00:19:19have you not only fined and disqualified in the match, but will have you escorted out of the building.

00:19:26And WCW will explore the possibilities of criminal prosecution.

00:19:34The message has been sent loud and clear to Kevin Nash and all the wrestlers in the NWO and WCW.

00:19:40Tony, back to you.

00:19:41Well, Mike, that is quite a statement.

00:19:43I never thought that we would hear or see something like that.

00:19:47But I have to pat James J. Dillon on the back.

00:19:51Fence, that is, that was a harrowing scene that we witnessed.

00:19:55And if you saw Sold Out, you experienced it.

00:19:59It really took our breath away.

00:20:01We didn't think the Giant would even walk.

00:20:05Again, he was helped out by medical attendants at night.

00:20:08And I would say to James J. Dillon, bravo, good job.

00:20:13There has to be the line drawn somewhere, Larry, and it's got to be right now.

00:20:17Well, you have to draw because, like I said, bigger, stronger athletes than ever.

00:20:20And I've seen wrestling evolve over 25 glorious years.

00:20:23You know, there was a time when coming off the top rope was illegal.

00:20:28Diving from the ring to the floor was illegal.

00:20:31And the rules have been, you know, slowly over the years becoming more lenient.

00:20:35And as a result, more and more necks have been broken.

00:20:38Careers have been ended.

00:20:40I don't know what the status with the Giant is.

00:20:42Didn't look good from what J. J. Dillon said.

00:20:44But banning and barring the jackknife powerbomb, good idea.

00:20:50It's about time.

00:20:51Well, everyone said that wrestling was going to change in 98.

00:20:54And you can see already it has.

00:20:56We're going in a different direction.

00:20:58The powerbomb has been so much of a part of many wrestlers' repertoire.

00:21:02But the fact that it was used last night, and I say this because of what we have known from Kevin Nash,

00:21:09what we have known from the NWO, the intent last night was to take a man out.

00:21:14Yeah, well, if you see the replay, you'll see Kevin Nash pick him up and deliberately open his hands

00:21:19and let the man drop deliberately on his neck.

00:21:22I mean, that was a deliberate trying to just destroy the man.

00:21:26And this is a sport.

00:21:27This is not an execution.

00:21:29So, J. J. Dillon, he did the right thing.

00:21:33Well, you know, 20, 25 years ago, Tony,

00:21:35the condition of wrestlers and the size of them and the speed,

00:21:39the nutrition and everything was a lot different.

00:21:41They're bigger now.

00:21:42They're faster now.

00:21:43They're a lot stronger now.

00:21:44They're in better condition.

00:21:45And there's so much more money involved.

00:21:48So, I mean, you've got to put down the rules someplace.

00:21:49Somebody's going to get really hurt really bad.

00:21:52And, you know, you brought up another good point.

00:21:54The money is a lot different.

00:21:55And there's so much riding on the line financially for many of these great athletes

00:21:59that you can see sometimes that athletes will stoop to lows like we have seen from Kevin Nash

00:22:05to try to take the competition out so they can make the most money.

00:22:10They can be on top of the mountain.

00:22:11We have seen enough of them.

00:22:12That is why the insurgents of the NWO,

00:22:15do you think these guys come out here and try to take us out for free?

00:22:18They want to control wrestling.

00:22:20They want to have all the money.

00:22:21They want to be on top.

00:22:22And we have seen examples of it periodically.

00:22:25But never anything as sickening and as frightening as what we witnessed.

00:22:30And the other night had sold out.

00:22:32And fans, we are going to understand before this program's over,

00:22:35before this segment's over,

00:22:36we're going to show you once again, witness that for yourself.

00:22:39Well, it's Conan and Jerry Flynn.

00:22:42Well, he's got goofy Vincent out there.

00:22:44Just pop.

00:22:45Look at Flynn.

00:22:46He doesn't know which way to look.

00:22:46And they got him.

00:22:47They got him distracted.

00:22:48And Billy Subberman warning Vincent to keep his hands off the opponent.

00:22:53And the WCW had really increased.

00:22:59Increased the fines, increased the security,

00:23:03trying to prevent many wrestlers from coming out,

00:23:06trying to hurt other wrestlers,

00:23:07doing the run-ins and trying to attack guys from behind.

00:23:11And really, what we have heard from James J. Dillon

00:23:13has been the stiffest, oh,

00:23:16laid down of the law we've heard in a long, long time.

00:23:18He was a very angry man, and I can understand why.

00:23:21Look at the great wrestlers in the back.

00:23:23Paul Orndorff can never wrestle again.

00:23:25Arn Anderson, younger man than I am,

00:23:28can never wrestle again.

00:23:30And when you say can never wrestle again,

00:23:31you're talking about someone, a professional wrestler's life,

00:23:35beams over.

00:23:36That's his promise in life.

00:23:38That's his living, and it's over.

00:23:40And that is just too stiff of a thing to go through life with.

00:23:45J.J. did the right thing.

00:23:46Good move by Conan,

00:23:50as Flynn hit the ropes on the right side,

00:23:53and now Conan will send him in.

00:23:55Again, we're going to have Scott Hall

00:24:52It's gotten brutal, but it's gotten too brutal.

00:25:02right in the middle of it here on Nitro.

00:25:04Each and every Monday, a running lariat.

00:25:06And down goes Conan,

00:25:07and Jerry Flynn is starting to pick up the offense here, guys.

00:25:11as much martial arts background as he has,

00:25:14has to use mad techniques here against Conan.

00:25:16Conan, very good on the mat,

00:25:18and on the mat's where you're gonna beat the man.

00:25:19See, Jerry went to take a double.

00:25:21Conan blocked it.

00:25:22Conan had a lateral press there

00:25:23and almost pinned Jerry Flynn.

00:25:24And I think Conan's very groggy

00:25:26since he hit his head on those steel steps on the outside.

00:25:29That will make you groggy, Conan.

00:25:30I'm sure it will.

00:25:32Trying to enziguri kick that time, but missing.
