00:00As we hit into the dog days of summer, training camps in the NFL are opening, and under the
00:07blazing hot sun, they're getting ready for a long NFL season.
00:14And you know, you need to stay hydrated.
00:18What better way than to get some body armor?
00:20You know, body armor doesn't have the dyes, all natural ingredients.
00:25Choose better.
00:27Choose body armor.
00:27And today's guest is Diana Rossini, the only female NFL insider, and she's going to give
00:36us a look ahead at this coming NFL season.
00:39Frank, Frank, Frank, Frank Waltz, Frank Waltz, it's time for Frank Waltz, Frank Talks while
00:50Frank Waltz, it's time for Frank Waltz.
00:57All right, Diana, you know, it's here, it's almost here, football, football is back.
01:05I know, I miss it already, man.
01:07It's hard to fill my days when I don't have anyone to call or text, and no games to watch.
01:12I have to hang out with my family.
01:14I mean, we've got a big season ahead of us.
01:19It looks like the Giants, look like they have a plan.
01:22Even though they may not be very good, it looks like they have a plan.
01:26They had a good draft.
01:29Yeah, Jackson Dart seems like he could be the guy, but they obviously have some insurance
01:33there, right, with Russell Wilson, which, look, you can say what you want about Russ.
01:38I do think that he brings some good qualities.
01:43Leadership, he's won the Super Bowl.
01:45Yeah, and he'll help the young rookie figure out how to navigate New York.
01:49It's not easy to play here, you know.
01:51It doesn't matter who you are.
01:52Look at Aaron Rodgers with the Jets.
01:53That wasn't easy for him.
01:54I'm not aware of what he says.
01:55You know, you have two quarterbacks who are like polar opposites.
01:58We've got this conservative, stayed home.
02:02Russell Wilson, who's won Super Bowls, kind of, like, doesn't take many chances.
02:08And then you've got Jameis Winston.
02:10Just throw it.
02:11It doesn't matter who catches it.
02:13Your guy might catch it.
02:14You might throw an 80-yard touchdown pass.
02:16Or you might throw a pick six.
02:19It's the same thing.
02:20It's the same thing.
02:21It's what you've got to like about him.
02:22But here's what Brian Dable likes is he likes guys that are willing to take some of those
02:27risks, right, because I think sometimes even Dable, it's a little bit of his own weakness,
02:31is he just wants his guys to check it up, right?
02:33But I think having the good and the bad, it's like the devil and the angel on your shoulder.
02:41I mean, Jackson Dart's going to get the better of both worlds.
02:44He's going to figure out what's going to happen.
02:46Who do you think is going to be better, the Jets or the Giants this year?
02:50I think the Jets will be slightly better.
02:52Why?
02:53Do you think their quarterback is better than the situation the Giants have?
02:57I think that the Giants are just in a tougher position in the NFC East.
03:03I think the Giants are more along the lines of just looking to the future while the Jets
03:12are just haplessly mediocre.
03:15I think even just having Aaron Glenn, just like a change of culture, a change of vibe there
03:21is going to be really good for them.
03:23I think the Giants will finish in the last place.
03:26I don't think the Jets will finish in the last place.
03:28Well, the Jets, they still got the Bills, let's not forget, right?
03:32Yeah.
03:33So they've got to deal with them.
03:34Oh, I don't think the Jets are going to be a playoff team.
03:35I don't think the Patriots are going to be any good this year.
03:39I think they're going to be okay, right?
03:41I think another example.
03:42Yeah, but there's a fourth team in that division.
03:44Yeah.
03:45How about them Dolphins?
03:47Well, look.
03:48Did you see the NFL Network ranked Tua?
03:51He made like the top 100.
03:53Yeah.
03:53I think he went from like 36 to, I think he's like in the 90s now.
03:58That's pretty good.
03:58Yeah, well, that's going in the wrong direction.
04:00And the odds of Tua surviving until October is probably highly unlikely because the Miami
04:14Dolphins general manager thinks that, no, you can just throw four fat guys out there.
04:20They don't need an offensive line.
04:22You don't need an offensive line.
04:24When was the last time the Dolphins had a good offensive line?
04:26Like, try to remember.
04:3016, maybe?
04:32I mean, it's been a long time.
04:35They had good offensive lines when they had bad quarterbacks.
04:38And it's been a long time.
04:40Like Ryan Tannehill, maybe?
04:41Yeah.
04:43I mean, say what you want about him, you know, if he had a little protection.
04:46And then they had the offensive line, the coach doing cocaine.
04:51Remember that guy?
04:52I do.
04:53It's got his name.
04:54He's back in the league.
04:57He's coaching.
04:57I think he's out of San Francisco.
05:00Then you had the Richie Incognito incident.
05:04I mean, which is, a lot of stories have come out about that guy, like, overblown and was,
05:11like, completely and wrongly understood.
05:17And it just tore the Dolphins apart.
05:20And now you have an offensive line that's never made.
05:23You have an interesting taste in teams here.
05:27I mean, the Miami Dolphins are, you know, here's how I look at the Dolphins.
05:33They traded a draft pick for a guy who retired last year.
05:37You know, in each of the last few Dolphin training camps, somebody has retired that they counted as a big offseason signing.
05:44Dan Waller will not make it to September.
05:48He will retire in training camp.
05:51I know it.
05:52You think he's going to re-retire, like, he's just going to do it again?
05:55Yes.
05:55He's going to re-retire.
05:56He's going to go through camp.
05:57And the Dolphins are going to just throw that kid, throw that kid, pick away.
06:01Whee!
06:03Mika Finch-Patrick, you know, he's a decent player.
06:05But I don't think he could do what helped him.
06:08So they traded their one pro bowler.
06:11They traded Jalen Ramsey and a draft pick.
06:16Whee!
06:17I mean, we need to be stockpiling draft picks.
06:20Give us the picks.
06:20You know, I'm ready for them to go 4-13.
06:25You know, it's always darkest before the dawn, and the darkness needs to come.
06:31The town needs to fall.
06:33The city needs to crumble.
06:35It needs to be so bad that there's only one thing to do.
06:43Tear it down to the roots.
06:45Bring in new people to run this organization and change their culture.
06:51Because the Dolphins are that bad.
06:53They are that bad and that hopeless.
06:56What about their logo?
06:58I hate it.
06:59Why?
06:59You want the old one back?
07:00Yes!
07:01That is a good one.
07:02The old one was so classy.
07:04This new one, it looks like it's a beach dolphin.
07:06It looks like it's dead.
07:08It looks limp.
07:10Classic.
07:11It needs some life, that's why.
07:12So it sounds like, for a fan of the Dolphins,
07:16it just sounds like you want to see Tua,
07:19and perhaps even their head coach, fail this year.
07:21Do you want a whole new quarterback?
07:23Are you out on Tua?
07:26I'm out on him because he can't stay healthy.
07:28And the offensive line, there's no hope.
07:31I mean, Tyreek Hill, shut up.
07:34All right, let's be positive.
07:36Let's say Tua stays healthy.
07:37Then how do you feel?
07:38Let's say I can tell you I have a crystal ball.
07:40I have all this inside info that tells me that Tua is going to be able to stay on the field
07:45and stay a quarterback and start every game.
07:49Then how do you feel?
07:49Oh, yeah, and 10-7, maybe we'll be the seventh seed.
07:55So still very little hope.
07:57So you don't even like the way the roster is built.
07:59You don't like their defense.
08:00They've got a great defensive coordinator in Anthony Weaver.
08:02Yeah, but they –
08:03Guys love him.
08:04But they don't really have the personality.
08:07Who's going to – who's going to – who's their secondary?
08:11Well, they're going to probably have to sign a guy.
08:13They're going to probably have to get somebody either off the street or maybe talk to, you know,
08:18one of these teams who got a couple extra guys during camp that they can pick up and snag, you know?
08:23I mean, who's the secondary?
08:25They got rid of all their captives practically in the offseason.
08:29Who's the leadership?
08:30Well, I think that's what we're going to find out.
08:32Now, I will tell you, the people that I talk to in Miami tell me that they're a much tighter group
08:38than it may appear right now from the outside, that it seems like it's all bad.
08:42And I did have one person say to me they want it to be that way.
08:45They like the idea that no one has any hope for them and that they're doubting them.
08:51So maybe this could be good.
08:52So you're helping the cause of the Miami Dolphins.
08:55So I think with all your negative energy, perhaps they could be good.
08:58And then maybe the old school Dan Marino logo will come back.
09:03I hope so.
09:04You know, if I was to get control of the Dolphins organization, day one, that would be all I do.
09:13Bring back the old school logo.
09:14So you don't even care about Super Bowls at this point.
09:17No.
09:17You just want the right logo.
09:19I feel you.
09:20And I tell everyone, look, this is a mess.
09:25Give me five years.
09:26Give me five years.
09:29It might be a hard five years.
09:32But give me five years.
09:34And I could turn this team around.
09:37I could turn this team around.
09:39And I'm not talking about where you make the playoffs go 10-7 and you're happy with it.
09:44No.
09:46Where you go 9-8 and think it's great.
09:48No.
09:48I'm talking about contending every year, winning a Super Bowl, hosting playoff games.
09:56Winning playoff games.
09:57They haven't won a playoff game since 2000.
09:59I mean.
10:00So then in like the scale of all the quarterbacks playing, right?
10:03Of all the starting quarterbacks in football.
10:05All right.
10:05Let's just, we'll put Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen at the top.
10:09Where are you putting Tua there?
10:11Right in the middle.
10:12Right in the middle.
10:13Okay.
10:14So who's the worst quarterback in football, in your opinion?
10:19The backup, Zach Wilson.
10:20Yay!
10:23He's a new married man.
10:24Got married in New York City.
10:25How about that?
10:26He must not hate the Jets that much.
10:28Got married here.
10:30Now I see you had, PFT has told you you had some issues in New York.
10:34With your car, getting towed.
10:36How do you know about that?
10:37He told you about all my towing problems?
10:39Yes.
10:40Frank, I don't know what it is, but I have a hard time reading signs.
10:43And it's one thing to read signs, but to read signs in New York, like, they make no sense.
10:48It'll say, like the one to my left right now, commercial parking, but you can park six to six.
10:54Cleaning, you can park one to two.
10:57What the hell does that mean?
10:58Like, can I park there or not?
11:00So my thought is just park, and we'll figure it out later.
11:03Unfortunately, I lose in that gamble a lot.
11:05So PFT has been at the tow pound with me probably three times now, getting my car out of the tow pound downtown.
11:13I mean, that's crazy.
11:15Well, I'm not that smart.
11:17That's what I'm discovering as I'm getting older.
11:19Now, what teams do you see making a move forward in the NFL this year?
11:24Well, the Ravens, right?
11:25They're always the team in my mind that you're waiting for the explosion.
11:30You're waiting for them to make that push to compete, to get to the Super Bowl.
11:34To me, it's Lamar Jackson.
11:36He's got to win a playoff game.
11:38I wouldn't say he played poorly this year, but I like Buffalo this year, actually.
11:45Why?
11:46I mean, everyone likes Buffalo.
11:47Last year, here's the problem.
11:49Buffalo is always getting the attention, right?
11:51Everyone always assumes because it's Josh Allen that they're going to contend.
11:54Last year, they kind of stayed off under the radar a bit, but they still competed, played well.
12:00You know, they made some good off-season moves.
12:04But, I mean, I would argue Josh Allen is in the same position as Lamar Jackson in terms of they've got to get over the hump.
12:09I think that those bad calls that went against them in the AFC Championship game, I think there's a sense.
12:15And they've got that new stadium opening up next year.
12:18Yeah.
12:19He's also a married man.
12:21Everyone got married this year.
12:23You ever going to get married?
12:24I don't know.
12:25I doubt it.
12:26Why?
12:27You keep losing all this weight.
12:29It's going to be easy to find those ladies out there.
12:32Ladies like fitness.
12:33Like, it doesn't matter what you look like.
12:34If you just want to do something, we like that.
12:37Because then that means you're motivated to be something and do something.
12:41And not just sitting around all day playing video games.
12:43Maybe something else is just sitting.
12:44Oh, what?
12:45Speaking of getting married and dating people.
12:48I assumed you didn't do any research on this interview.
12:50I was thinking, there's no way he even knows who I am.
12:53Nevertheless, actually Google me.
12:54Now, David Wright.
12:57Are you jealous that I dated David Wright?
12:59No.
13:00I didn't.
13:01It was just a bad rumor.
13:03So, I was a young reporter here in New York.
13:07You know, you're retiring his number in two weeks.
13:08I know.
13:10I worked at WNBC.
13:11And the story goes, someone in his camp saw me on TV and planted some rumor.
13:19But I hadn't met him when the story came out that I was dating him.
13:22And by the way, I'm a Yankees fan.
13:24So, to me, I was like, I would never do that, even if he liked me.
13:27And there's no chance he didn't like me.
13:28So, I met him, like, three years after that story came out.
13:35And I went up to him in the clubhouse.
13:36I said, hey, I don't know if you know me, but my name is Diana, and we dated.
13:41And he laughed.
13:41He said, I remember.
13:43He was like, I'm so sorry, whatever that was.
13:45And, again, I'm still upset that I much – I wish it was, like, Don Mattingly or something, not David Wright, you know?
13:53Now, how about the – now, we talked about the AFC.
13:56I think the AFC is now the power conference.
13:59We got the Chiefs still, the Ravens, the Bills.
14:02Yeah.
14:03But the Eagles won the Super Bowl.
14:05Here's the thing.
14:05I don't – I normally feel, like, headed into a new year that no matter what, no matter how good you are, if you win the Super Bowl, you're going to have that hangover.
14:15I know it's funny to say, and it's, like, a common narrative, but it's real.
14:19Like, any time you talk to guys that either won the Super Bowl or even played in the Super Bowl, even if you didn't win it, they talk about that exhaustion and just – you know, because their season's longer than everyone else's.
14:29But, obviously, it's the winners.
14:31I think the Eagles have a difficult time.
14:33Why?
14:34Just because –
14:36They don't lose anyone.
14:37They're literally the same roster.
14:39Every single guy.
14:40But just what you just said there, they're going to have that hangover.
14:43Well, I have this obsession with watching the Instagram stories of players to see what they do in the offseason.
14:50Have you seen Saquon's workouts?
14:52No, I haven't.
14:53He has not stopped.
14:54Like, I haven't seen him not –
14:56He's a Frank Walks guest.
14:58I know, I heard.
14:59He did an interview with me, too, last year.
15:00He's a great guy, right?
15:02Yes, he is.
15:03I think he tends to be a little quiet, and I think people misread it a little bit because they think it's low energy or maybe disinterest.
15:12But he is really smart and kind.
15:16You know?
15:16Yeah.
15:16He's one of my favorite players in football.
15:18And I'm not supposed to have favorites, but he's one of the best guys I've been around, without a doubt.
15:24Besides David Wright, of course.
15:25So, if you're going to pick the Super Bowl today, who would be your matchup?
15:33I would love to see the Washington Commanders get into the Super Bowl.
15:37Just all this momentum behind that.
15:40I like Jaden Daniels.
15:42He's it.
15:43He's it.
15:44And I think, look, the fear is that it's going to be a C.J. Stroud Part 2 situation coming up here, but I don't think so.
15:52I tend to think that's possible, but I don't think he's going to be that – I don't think he'll progress that much, but I think he'll just have a more difficult season.
16:03Yeah.
16:04I would like to see the Washington Commanders and the Baltimore Ravens in together.
16:09Oh.
16:09Think about that.
16:10Yeah, that would be a –
16:11A battle of the DMV of just, you know, what those cities would be like.
16:15Those fan bases.
16:17It would be out of this world.
16:19And I want some new – I want new people in there.
16:22I'll tell you who I really want to see.
16:25I want the suffering of the Lions fans to end.
16:28I know.
16:30I want the Lions.
16:31Hey, there was a time where I thought that was going to be it.
16:35Like, this is the year.
16:35I thought last year was the year for the Lions.
16:37And I just – I don't think this is going to be it either, though.
16:42Right?
16:42You never know.
16:43What about the Cowboys?
16:44I mean, think about that.
16:46We grew up in a time where it was all about the Cowboys, you know?
16:49And now, yes, it's all about the Cowboys, but are they any good?
16:53The Cowboys just get in their own way.
16:57And, you know, it's going to be the same thing.
16:58They're going to get up to the hot start.
17:00They're going to struggle in October.
17:03They're going to have a resurgence in November.
17:06In December, they're going to be starting to wind down.
17:09And then they're going to have that one playoff game in January,
17:12home playoff game probably, and they're going to lose it.
17:14All right.
17:15What's the one team that you have the most, like, questions about?
17:19Like, almost like, what are they?
17:22Is there a team that kind of, like, makes you wonder, are they good?
17:26Are they bad?
17:27Because sometimes that happens, right?
17:28You're like, what is this?
17:29Chargers are one of those teams.
17:30Chargers, right?
17:31They should be good.
17:33Yeah.
17:33The idea of it should be they're building, you know.
17:35But I think with Harbaugh being back there for second season,
17:39getting around, then Justin Herbert.
17:40I mean, Justin Herbert is the biggest question mark in general, right?
17:43How many times have we – I will stand on a hill and die
17:46and say Justin Herbert is a really good quarterback.
17:49But if you don't win –
17:51And I think the Bengals, if they got any defense, any defense, could be dangerous.
17:57Yeah.
17:57And I got another prediction.
17:58All right.
17:59Pittsburgh is going to implode.
18:02Hmm.
18:03I think Aaron Rodgers –
18:04You think this is it?
18:05I think Aaron –
18:06You think he's going to be the source of the implosion?
18:07Yeah.
18:08Why?
18:09Do you think that happened in New York?
18:10I think a lot of what happened in New York is going to happen in Pittsburgh.
18:13I think his ego is too big to even subjugate himself to a good coach
18:18like Mike Tomlin and the Steelers hopefully make that mistake
18:24and say, okay, Mike, you're gone.
18:26And maybe a team in Miami can take advantage.
18:29Oh, that's who you want to be, the head coach?
18:31That's who I want to be.
18:31You want Mike Tomlin?
18:32I want Mike Tomlin to run the Dolphins.
18:34Oh, that could be it.
18:35One thing I wanted to share with you, because I know I said I was a Yankees fan,
18:39but do you know I got into sports because of the Mets?
18:43So I was a news reporter and I covered crime, fires, just really bad stories.
18:47It's kind of like, do you know what happens to the Mets?
18:49No, it wasn't the Mets.
18:52It was my job as a news reporter here in New York.
18:55And after I would do my reports, I would go back to the station at 30 Rock
18:59and I'd hang out with the sports guys.
19:01And Bruce Beck, the local sports anchor here in New York, said,
19:04you're always back here watching these games.
19:06Why don't you switch to sports?
19:08So I said, all right, I will.
19:10He said, there's this story about Shea Stadium closing.
19:13You want to come do it?
19:14And I went and I did it.
19:15And I stood out there in front of the camera.
19:17I interviewed all the fans crying, unfortunately.
19:19Oh, yeah, I remember that day.
19:20They were so sad about it.
19:21But I realized in that moment that I never want to do anything else again
19:25but be a sports reporter.
19:26So thank you, Mets.
19:28That day, the Mets, if they would have won,
19:31would have forced a one-game playoff.
19:34They gave up back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth.
19:37I recall.
19:38And then lost the game, the final game at Shea Stadium.
19:41And then, as the end of the game, brought out everyone,
19:45all these former Mets, to touch home plate the last time.
19:48And you're just sitting there watching these late-season collapse
19:52for the second straight year.
19:55And you know you're out at Shea Stadium on the last day.
19:58And, boy, they didn't even waste time.
20:00They just tore down the scoreboard the next day.
20:03Oh, they ripped out those chairs.
20:04They threw them.
20:05I wish I got you something.
20:05If I knew you then, I would have grabbed you something.
20:06I got a brick.
20:07Oh, that's good.
20:08That's all you need.
20:10Thanks for joining us.
20:11It was a great walk, and looking forward to this football season.
20:14Thanks, Frank.
20:15This was great.
