00:00Why is the dollar falling so much, and are you concerned about that?
00:05Well, you know, I'm a person that likes a strong dollar,
00:09but a weak dollar makes you a hell of a lot more money.
00:12I hate to tell you.
00:13I don't know if you study it, but I study it.
00:15And if you look at the yen, and it â
00:17I went to 10 and work, so I know this.
00:19You understand?
00:20Absolutely.
00:21Oh, you did go to 10?
00:22I went to work, yes, sir.
00:23Well, that means you're a smarter guy than I even thought,
00:25and I know you're smart.
00:27So when we have a strong dollar, one thing happens.
00:32It sounds good.
00:33But you don't do any tourism.
00:35You can't sell crackers.
00:37You can't sell crops.
00:38You can't sell anything.
00:40It is good for inflation.
00:42That's about it.
00:43And we have no inflation.
00:44We've wiped out inflation.
00:46But it's an interesting question.
00:48So I will never say I like a low currency,
00:51but you remember the battles I had with the yuan,
00:54with China and with Japan.
00:56Japan being the yen.
00:58They always wanted a weak currency.
01:00They're trying to get a weak currency now.
01:02Now, it doesn't sound good,
01:05but you make a hell of a lot more money with a weaker dollar â
01:08not a weak dollar, but a weaker dollar â
01:10than you do with a strong dollar.
01:11And the first thing â people that are going to notice it
01:14are the manufacturers of crops and various other things.
01:17Like, look at Caterpillar, how well they're doing now.
01:19When you have a strong dollar, you can't sell anything.
01:22It's only good for inflation.
01:24And it's good psychologically.
01:25It makes you feel good.
01:27But with that being said, I love strong dollars.
01:30But you make your money with a currency.
01:32And I had so many different fights with President Xi,
01:36with â I mean, between Japan and China.
01:39All they want to do is have a weak currency.
01:41They're always fighting for a weak currency.
01:43And that's how they really dominated over the years.
01:46So when I see it down there, I don't lose sleep over it.
01:49Let's put it that way.
01:50In fact, sometimes they go to sleep very happy.
01:53You understand.
01:54Do you agree with that?
01:56I agree with a lot of what you said, Mr. President.
01:59Do you think it makes it any easier to impose your tariff
02:03with that smaller dollar?
02:05Because the â
02:06I think it makes it easier even for tariffs, yeah.
02:09And it makes the tariffs worth much more.
02:12And it's easier to pay off debt.
02:15And it's easier to get a low interest rate, too.
02:18There are a lot of good things.
02:19It's hard to explain to people the headline.
02:21We go, oh, Trump wants a weak dollar.
02:23It's not a weak dollar.
02:24We â you take a look at the history of China over the last 20 years.
02:30All they do is fight for a weak currency.
02:33Look at Japan when they were really doing well.
02:35They had a very weak currency.
02:37So, to me, I just say thank you very much.
02:41It is â
