00:00What we have done is given a record settlement to the resident doctors, 28.9%.
00:06Now that is something which other parts of the public sector haven't benefited from.
00:10We urge resident doctors to put the interests of patients first.
00:14Patients do not want these strikes. The public do not want these strikes.
00:19So let's get together, get back to work for the interests of patients.
00:23We've already lowered the waiting list by over 4 million new appointments since we came to office.
00:28Let's not put that at jeopardy. Let's keep moving forward.
00:32We recognise that in the 14 years of the Tory government, people working in the public sector didn't get the recognition that they deserved.
00:39They didn't get the pay that they needed.
00:42So we want to take action on this, but it has to be proportionate and it has to be affordable.
00:47We will not risk and jeopardise the public finances and we will not benefit one part of the public sector at the expense of the others.
00:54People understand that people need to be fairly remunerated in the public sector and in the NHS
00:59and that pay is a crucial part of providing a great service.
01:02But I don't think there are many people out there that don't think a 28.9% pay settlement is not fair.
