00:00What's up you guys? How are you? It's still good morning, right? Good morning. Oh my god, this is so exciting. As they say, welcome to Hollywood. What's your dream? People over 40 know that reference. You guys, it is an incredible honor and a privilege to be here today for such an amazing celebration.
00:23Some of you already know, some of you don't. I've talked to a couple people like, what's going on over there? Los Bukis. What's that? Okay, I gotta leave you.
00:34But today is just a day of celebration and I'm so happy to be here. So happy to be part of this. First of all, a big shout out. Thank you to all the fans who are lining the streets here today.
00:45We shut down traffic, baby. And a big shout out to all our fans watching around the world via live stream.
00:55But first, I gotta pay the bills here. A big thank you to our live stream partners, Variety, who's making this live stream possible.
01:07Alright, there's stuff that I want to say from the heart and there's stuff that was given to me to say, you'll know which is which.
01:13So I need to start off by saying that the Hollywood Walk of Fame recognizes achievement in the categories of motion picture, radio, live theater, live performance, sports entertainment, recording, and television.
01:29And of course today, in the category of recording, we are honoring who?
01:34Again, for those of you that don't speak Spanish.
01:45Lo siento. Anyway, Los Bukis, as they receive star number 2,817 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
01:54So, fun fact, if you've ever wondered how many stars there are on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as of today, 2,817.
02:03And that's a beautiful thing.
02:06Alright, so before we bring the guys out, I know you guys are waiting for them and you're not here to see me.
02:12Just a little bit of information for those of you who don't know.
02:16Los Bukis was formed by cousins Marco Antonio and Joel Solis as children.
02:21That's right.
02:26Initially struggling for two years before being signed by Disco's Melody in 1973.
02:33I was asked a question earlier.
02:34What does Los Bukis mean?
02:36Fun fact, Los Bukis means children in the Yaqui language.
02:40I know all the people on the sidewalk know.
02:41Remember, for those that don't know.
02:43Por eso me trajeron, señora.
02:44No se enoje.
02:46Ese gordo no sabe.
02:48No, si sé.
02:49So, sabes, pa' los gringos.
02:50Anyway.
02:52So, the name Los Bukis means children in the Yaqui language.
02:57Starting as a duo, they evolved into a full band with the addition of, obviously,
03:02Marco Antonio Solis, Joel Solis, Roberto Guadarrama, Eusebio Chivo Cortez, Jose Guadarrama, Jose Javier Solis, and Pedro Sanchez.
03:23That's right, you guys.
03:27Led by Marco Antonio Solis' songwriting and distinctive voice, Los Bukis became pioneers in the romantic ballad and Spanish language music.
03:46Las Romanticas.
03:48Yeah.
03:49Gave me chills.
03:50Their breakthrough came in 1976.
03:54The year I was born, by the way.
03:55It's a really good year.
03:561976 with the success of Falso Amor.
04:01Yeah, we've all been part of those, haven't we?
04:03Yes.
04:04Me puse a llorar.
04:05Anyway, Falso Amor marking the beginning of their professional career.
04:09In 1986, their hit, Tu Carcel, reached unprecedented.
04:15Yes, that's right.
04:15You can cheer for that song.
04:17We've all sang it.
04:17That song reached unprecedented heights, earning them Mexico's first ever diamond record and three Grammy nominations.
04:27Los Bukis became beloved for these hits, including, Quierame.
04:35Yo te necesito.
04:37You can clap for these.
04:38You guys showed up.
04:39You're in the sun.
04:40Un aplauso fuerte para cada canción, okay?
04:43Quierame.
04:43Yo te necesito.
04:44Yo te necesito.
04:45Presiento que voy a llorar.
04:48¿A dónde vayas?
04:51Tus mentiras.
04:53That's right.
04:54Morenita.
04:55Y ahora te vas.
04:59Y no regreses.
05:00That's my tag.
05:01And necesito una compañera.
05:03They performed at legendary venues, including Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and Mexico's Auditorio Nacional.
05:15In 1989, Primero Lo Nuestro Awards, Los Bukis swept multiple categories, including Group of the Year, Album of the Year.
05:25One of the band's missions is to donate to charitable organizations local to their native city in Michoacan, Mexico, with the purpose of supporting vulnerable communities.
05:38Now, just a note.
05:40I know that they've performed at Madison Square Garden, and they've performed at Radio City.
05:45But let me tell you the group that you're here to support today.
05:49These aren't just songs.
05:51These are the soundtracks of many of our lives.
05:55I woke up to Los Bukis every morning.
05:58My mom would pop in a cassette.
05:59Mijo, ayúdame con el radio.
06:00And I had to pop in a cassette.
06:02And let me just tell you, they have sold millions and millions of albums.
06:07Not to mention all the piratería that's sold at the swap meets.
06:10Si cuentas eso?
06:12Oh, my God.
06:12Olvídate.
06:13Yeah, it's probably three times that.
06:15And I would wake up to their songs.
06:17And as a kid, that has that strong connection where every time I hear one of these songs, it reminds me of my childhood.
06:24So when I say it is an honor to be here, I mean that.
06:27Es un gran honor estar aquí con ustedes.
06:30And just so you know, Madison Square Garden, it's a beautiful building, but it's not that big.
06:36When you think about the stadiums that these gentlemen have filled over the years.
06:41Stadiums, not arenas.
06:43Most artists are lucky if they can perform in an arena and sell it out.
06:47These gentlemen have sold out stadiums on the level of Taylor Swift.
06:50Okay?
06:51On the level of a Taylor Swift, of a Metallica, Rolling Stones.
06:55They are just at the same level, if not bigger.
06:58One of the biggest, most iconic groups of our time, of all time.
07:08Los Bukis, number one in my book.
07:13So, again, you know what was written for me, and you know what just came from the heart.
07:18And let me just tell you, they continue to get better with time.
