00:00Ursula von der Leyen has called Volodymyr Zelensky to express concerns and demand
00:06explanations over a new law that weakens the independence of two of Ukraine's anti-corruption
00:11agencies. Under the legislation, the agencies are brought under the direct oversight of the
00:17prosecutor general, who is a political appointee. Following public outcry, the prosecutor general
00:23Ruslan Kravchenko promised not to interfere with the agency's independence. In his first
00:28public comments on the matter.
00:30We agreed to work with constructively together, each in their direction of action, and no one
00:43will be willing to work, because there is enough amount of criminal action and work to do.
00:54The direct intervention of the European Commission president represents a new escalation in the
01:00unexpected clash between Brussels and Kyiv. It's the first time since the start of Russia's
01:05full-scale invasion that the executive has voiced such explicit criticism against Zelensky's
01:09government. As protests continue in Ukraine, Zelensky subsequently said he will propose
01:15a draft law that would ensure the strength of Ukraine's law enforcement system.
