At today's House Republican leadership press briefing, Speaker Johnson was asked if President Trump asked him to delay a resolution on releasing the Epstein Files.

00:00I think that goes to the end of the calendar year so we'll have discussion

00:25about the issue later but it hasn't come up yet I mean but it's on the radar

00:28back row yes no no but I as you all know I speak to the president multiple times a

00:43day on a typical day often always and what I know about the president's heart on

00:50this is that he he agrees with everything I've said here today he wants maximum

00:54transparency but he's also very insistent that we do not subject people who have

01:00been already been victims of unspeakable crimes to further public scrutiny and it

01:06would be a very dangerous thing to put those people's names out or to do a

01:12release of information in a way that is haphazard where they could be easily

01:16unmasked and so you have to be very careful about how you do that I think we

01:20have a moral responsibility to do that we have a moral responsibility to expose the

01:23evil of Epstein and everybody was involved in that absolutely and we're

01:28resolved to do it but we also have an equal more responsibility to protect the

01:32innocent and that isn't that is a fine needle to thread and we could all give

01:37ourselves easy political cover and come out and do something in a haphazard

01:40fashion but I would not be able to sleep at night because I know I know our legal

01:44responsibility I understand what the legal standard is but more than that the

01:48moral standard okay so we're gonna do this and we're gonna do it expeditiously

01:52we're gonna do do it the right way what is popular isn't always right and what is

01:56right isn't always popular and an eighth grade teacher tell me that one time I

02:00carried it with my whole life we're gonna do the right thing here and the

02:03American people at the end will see that we did that in the right way and on the

02:07right timetable yes sir
