In a video released to social media, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) shared his thoughts on the Epstein files controversy.

00:02Let me be frank.

00:04I have no idea what is in the Epstein files,

00:08who was in the Epstein files,

00:09or whether or not these files actually even exist.

00:13But this I do know.

00:15Jeffrey Epstein was an extremely wealthy guy

00:17who hung out with some of the wealthiest

00:20and most powerful people in our country and the world,

00:24including Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew,

00:26multiple billionaires, and Donald Trump.

00:30And this I also know.

00:32During his presidential campaign,

00:34Donald Trump said very clearly

00:35that he would release the Epstein files.

00:39My response, Mr. President, do it.

00:43Do what you promised the American people you would do

00:46and stop trying to deflect attention away

00:49from what you promised.

00:51Be transparent the way you promised you would be.

00:55Tell the truth like you promised.

00:57Because hiding whatever he's hiding with the Epstein files

01:01is not the first time, to say the least,

01:04that he has lied to the American people.

01:07He promised that his big, beautiful bill

01:11wouldn't touch Medicaid.

01:13Instead, the bill is going to take away Medicaid

01:16from 17 million Americans.

01:20Why is he slashing Medicaid?

01:22So we can give a trillion dollars in tax breaks

01:25to the top 1%

01:27and 900 billion in tax breaks to the corporate world.

01:32In other words,

01:33he is making his very rich friends much richer

01:36while making life harder for working families.

01:40But that is not all.

01:42Trump is attacking every single day

01:45the very foundations of American democracy.

01:49He is usurping the responsibilities of Congress

01:52and is illegally refusing to allocate the money

01:56that Congress appropriated for education,

01:59housing, and other basic needs.

02:01He is ignoring court decisions that he doesn't like

02:04and attacking universities who are teaching courses

02:07he doesn't like.

02:09He's going after law firms

02:10that represented clients he doesn't like.

02:13Further, he doesn't like a free press

02:16and he doesn't want criticism.

02:19He has sued ABC, Meta,

02:22The Wall Street Journal, and CBS,

02:24and he has cut funding for PBS and NPR.

02:27Enough is enough.

02:30Too many Americans have fought and died

02:32to defend freedom and democracy,

02:34to defend the First Amendment,

02:36and the right to dissent.

02:38That is what makes America great.

02:42Whether Donald Trump likes it or not,

02:44we are and will remain

02:46a government of the people,

02:49by the people, and for the people,

02:51not a country run by a bunch of billionaire oligarchs

02:54who want to move this country

02:56to an authoritarian society.
