00:00Now, as early as next year, passengers will be able to bring on board a 7kg carry-on bag and a smaller personal bag for free.
00:07Is that going to hit your profits or will you just charge more for tickets?
00:11Well, firstly, they won't. I mean, it's an idea that comes from the...
00:14It's a proposal from the European Parliament.
00:16It has no chance of passing into law because that amount of bags don't fit on board the aircraft.
00:21On our aircraft, where we're flying largely full flights, about half the passengers can bring two bags.
00:26And the other half can only bring one bag because that's all that fits in the plane.
00:30In fact, we're already struggling with that amount of baggage.
00:32And that's one of the reasons we are so aggressive about eliminating the scourge of passengers with excess baggage.
00:39One of the things that irritates our passengers most is the one or two people who show up with a rucksack claiming that it fits in the sizer.
00:46If it doesn't fit in the sizer, it's not getting on.
00:49Our passengers will be paying the excess bag fees, but more than 99.9% of passengers comply.
00:55The time minority who don't will pay the fees, and we are happy to incentivise our passengers with a share of those excess baggage fees,
01:04which we think will decline over the coming year or two.
01:07So you paid bonuses to staff to catch oversized bags. How much was that bonus?
01:11It's about $150 per bag, and we're thinking of increasing it so that we eliminate it.
01:16That's it.
