After a knee injury and surgery, this woman's life took an unexpected turn when she developed vitiligo, a skin condition she initially thought was just a cooking oil burn. As she navigated a toxic relationship, her vitiligo spread, becoming a visual reminder of the turmoil she was in. But in a surprising twist, the condition ultimately became a catalyst for change, prompting her to end the relationship and start embracing her true self. Today, she proudly owns her unique appearance, using her platform to raise awareness about vitiligo and promote self-acceptance.

00:00Hi, I'm from Trinidad and Tobago and I have vitiligo.
00:05I just wanted to share a little bit about what this condition is.
00:10So vitiligo is an autoimmune condition that's triggered by stress and it can really happen to anybody.
00:16There is no real known cause as to what causes it and there is also no known 100% cure.
00:25There are tons of studies out there right now, things that people are trying to do,
00:28but I've had it for about maybe six years now.
00:32It started off really as a small dot on my hands and then it progressed to basically my entire body in small areas.
00:42I can't show everywhere, but I have it on everywhere.
00:46You know, it's been a challenge to just kind of cope with day by day as my body changes,
00:52but I've gotten a lot more confident.
00:55I have learned how to channel this experience and just, you know, use it to be a better person,
01:03to love myself more, to love people more, and to just embrace the fullness of life.
01:09You know, so I encourage you to follow my page for more vitiligo content.
01:14I'm a mom, a home school, and I share about that as well,
01:18but I would love to answer any questions that you guys might have
01:21and connect with anybody else in the vitiligo community here in Trinidad and the rest of the Caribbean.
