Mark Stoops is now the longest tenured head coach in the SEC after Saban leaving last year.
00:07
This will be his 13th season as the man with the Wildcats.
00:13
And to be fair, I know it's Kentucky, it's a basketball school.
00:18
Probably the best job anyone's ever done in terms of football at Kentucky is the job that he's done there.
00:24
Here he is talking about now having that distinguishment.
00:27
When you have a down year, you have to stand up here, you have to own it, you have to face it,
00:32
you know, talk about the things you're doing to address it, and then move on.
00:36
I've stood up here after, you know, two ten-win seasons.
00:38
That's only happened two times in the history of our school.
00:41
You know, and I don't really want to talk about that year.
00:44
I want to talk about this year, you know, so there's a fine balance there.
00:48
So for me, it's just exciting.
00:49
As I mentioned to your colleague there, to your right there,
00:54
but, you know, it's really just, you know, excited about the opportunity.
00:58
You know, really diving into the challenge that lies ahead of us
01:03
and embracing that and having fun with it because, you know, this s*** is hard.
01:08
And you might as well go enjoy it and dive into it.
01:11
And there's a lot of people that can't do it and didn't do it for 12 years
01:15
and didn't do it for 13 years and not in Kentucky.
01:17
You look at the history of what we've done, and there's a lot of great ones
01:22
that didn't make it very long.
01:23
And so I'm proud of the run that we have.
01:27
Yeah, I'll give you this.
01:29
He has certainly been somewhat successful there
01:33
and has made the program relevant in football
01:37
at a place that all they care about is basketball.
01:41
And that's all they'll ever care about is basketball.
01:43
I mean, at UK, they just don't care about football.
01:50
That's just it.
01:51
And he's made them matter at the very least.
01:55
And, you know, they've had success at some level.
01:58
You know, he's still not a winning coach.
02:00
As a head coach, he's got a losing record.
02:03
That's just all there is to it.
02:05
Yeah, it is at the end of the day.
02:07
All right.
02:08
They have a low win total as well
02:09
because I think they were picked to be one of the bottom teams,
02:12
four and a half, for Kentucky this year.
02:15
God bless and good luck to Mark Stoops.
02:18
I want to play you this Drinkwitz.
02:20
He's, of course, the head coach of Missouri.
02:22
This guy does have a little bit of a personality,
02:24
but he's also a little out there as well.
02:26
A lot of people have ideas, Scotty,
02:28
for a new college football playoff format.
02:31
I don't know if you need a pen and a paper
02:33
or you need to try to keep up here,
02:35
but listen to this guy start to rattle off
02:38
how many teams he thinks should make it.
02:39
My math could be wrong here,
02:42
but if we did the 12, okay,
02:44
and you had four automatic qualifiers,
02:46
everybody thinks that's limiting.
02:47
It's not limiting if you think about it from,
02:49
you take those four automatic qualifiers
02:51
and you divide that up into eight opportunities
02:53
of eight play-in games.
02:55
So now you're taking the SECs playing in for eight,
02:57
you're taking the Big Tens playing in for eight.
03:00
Since we've expanded the bubble, the 16,
03:03
give three to the Big 12,
03:05
three to the ACC, one, one.
03:07
Now you've got 30 teams, 30 teams.
03:10
Now we're talking about an opportunity for 30 teams,
03:13
30 fan bases to be excited and engaged,
03:16
engaged in giving revenue.
03:17
Got 30 teams with players who have access
03:21
to compete for a championship.
03:23
And so for me, I think that makes a lot more sense.
03:26
You know, again, when you're talking about
03:28
the NFL playoff system, not only is it 14 teams,
03:30
but you only have to be the best
03:31
out of your four-team division.
03:33
So you've got to compete against four teams
03:35
in order to make the playoffs.
03:37
You know, again, when you're at the University of Missouri,
03:39
if you say, hey, you just have to finish in the top eight
03:42
to have a chance to play in the playoffs,
03:44
that's a win every day.
03:46
Listen, he's tripping.
03:48
He's absolutely tripping.
03:50
If he thinks that they're going to have
03:52
30 teams in that playoff, that's not happening.
03:56
So right now, they're going to expand it.
03:58
I think it's going to go to, what, a maximum of 16.
