St Enoch is the collection of beer being produced by a range of independent Glasgow brewers in celebration of Glasgow 850.
Transcript
00:00Glasgow is celebrating its 850th anniversary this year. As a group we
00:07wanted to celebrate alongside and we had the idea to do a series of beer
00:14collaborations with a number of local Glaswegian breweries. Six breweries
00:20participating, Simple Things Fermentation, Ducat, Mainz, Overtone,
00:28Schilling and a brand new brewery for Glasgow, Mother Tongue. So each of these
00:36breweries was given the brief to brew something that fell within the realm of a
00:42summer ale and essentially what they did was went off and had to think about it
00:47and came back with a lovely cross-section of beer that we are going to be very
00:53excited to try. So we've got everything ranging from a Kulsh, Hazy Saison and we've
01:02got Belgian Pale but definitely remember that there's also one brewery that's
01:08decided to go with an old-timey-wimey style which is Gruet Ale and if folks
01:15don't know what that is well then that's all the more reason for you to go out and
01:19try it when it is released. The name of the collaboration series and the name of
01:26each one of the beers being released is St. Enoch Mother Glasgow and that was very
01:32intentional because Glasgow has two patron saints. A lot of people are
01:37familiar with St. Mungo but it's not as widely known that St. Enoch is also one of
01:43the patron saints of Glasgow and perhaps even less known that St. Enoch was a
01:48woman it was St. Mungo's mother and the inspiration for this collaboration series
01:57and the beers that we'll all be enjoying in the summertime this aligns with the
02:04Glasgow Fair Monday and the history behind that is it's actually the feast day of
02:10St. Enoch that's part of the history of Glasgow and that ties in really well with
02:15the 850th anniversary of the city and so each one of the beers although they're
02:20different in style they're all brought together by the theme of a summer ale
02:24and they're all brewed in the memory of and in celebration of St. Enoch as a
02:30mother figure for St. Mungo and for the city of Glasgow. The groups have been running for over
02:34five years now I think we're roughly at about 280 members give or take which is
02:44great yeah it's it's amazing seeing as how the first meetup we ever had you know
02:51I booked a table and I hoped that five or six people would show up and the rest
02:58since they say it's history
