00:00The double homicide that included one of the victims being an American Idol, longtime American Idol executive named Robin Kay.
00:08We told you about this story yesterday that police were doing a welfare check on Monday, went into Robin and her husband Tom DeLuca's home in Encino and found them both shot to death.
00:19Well, police did pretty good and quick work here to find the suspect.
00:24And in fact, on Tuesday afternoon, they arrested the suspect.
00:28He's 22 years old and he lives about 10 minutes away by drive.
00:34That's him being taken into custody.
00:36From the murder home.
00:37And we now know a lot.
00:40It appears that this was the scenario.
00:44Last Thursday, a neighbor saw a man who appeared to be armed hopping the fence into their property.
00:52And that's all they saw.
00:54And then there is a welfare check on Monday because nobody had heard from them.
01:01And the cops come, but they don't try to enter because they don't see any sign of force entry.
01:08Yesterday, well, excuse me.
01:10They came on Thursday.
01:12That was last Thursday.
01:13Right.
01:13And then on Monday, they actually went in the home and they found them and they were shot to death.
01:19And what it appears to be is a burglary and that the suspect went into the home when Robin and Tom were not there.
01:30They came home, surprised the burglar, and the burglar allegedly shot them to death.
01:35Yeah.
01:36Harvey, this guy has a criminal background.
01:40He's been arrested several times for a battery on a person, but all of those cases were subsequently dismissed.
01:47But it's interesting that those arrests really helped police track him down this time.
01:53Right.
01:53Yeah, that's true.
01:54There was a fingerprint that was lifted from the crime scene that connected him, you know, to the case.
02:04And typically what happens is when you get arrested, the police fingerprint you and...
02:10It's in the database.
02:11You're in the system then.
02:12Yeah, yeah.
02:14Exactly.
02:14And what's also interesting, Harvey, is that if you read the docket entries for the three arrests, it's clear that he had mental health issues and his neighbors were, you know, told us that, you know, he was going around the neighborhood and he seemed mentally ill.
02:41You know, he'd just do a lot of wacky stuff.
02:43So this guy's obviously a wack job.
02:45He's in custody right now.
02:47I can tell you, I've spoken to several people, you know, from the American Idol cast, current and past, and they are devastated.
02:56She was a real force on that show.
02:59She would coach.
03:00He was a music supervisor, but she would coach the contestants.
03:04She was really ingrained in that show for many years.
03:07It's really, really sad.
03:09A big loss with the American Idol family.
03:10And now we've also, you know, spoken to neighbors in that, in their neighborhood who said that there, even before this, there had been an uptick in burglaries, but this has really shaken them.
03:23And now they are sort of banding together, figuring that, you know, they've got to look out for each other now.
03:29And now we've got to look out for each other.
03:32And now we've got to look out for each other.
