00:00Soldiers, vehicles and heavy artillery are dug in here in the southern city of Tainan
00:05as Taiwan's military practices how to repel enemy forces that are about to come onto shore.
00:10These army units have deployed roughly 10 kilometers from Taiwan's coast,
00:14using temples as a makeshift base and this field as a firing range.
00:21The military is making sure its artillery crews can work together
00:25and engage a simulated enemy with coordinated fire.
00:30You can see this is only five, six aircraft.
00:32And there are other units in the same time.
00:36The entire operation will be used for 5 to 10 minutes.
00:39After the 10 minutes, the entire operation will be completed.
00:44This artillery bombardment marks day 6th of Taiwan's nationwide Hanguang military exercises
00:50and a shift in strategy.
00:52Until now, the focus has been on countering Chinese gray zone tactics,
00:56measures meant to wear down Taiwan's defenses without triggering a war.
01:01But today, the drills moved into a new phase,
01:04preparing to destroy enemy forces after they land.
01:07As Hanguang continues into Friday,
01:09the military says we'll be conducting more urban warfare drills,
01:12simulating how Taiwan will respond if an enemy force actually makes it to shore.
