02:57I don't think that's an accident, but the most important lesson for us today is that this gives us two quick lessons.
03:04Number one. How we know what love is? It's in the text. What does it say?
03:09Jesus Christ did what? He laid down his life for us. How did Jesus lay down his life for us?
03:16Say it again.
03:18By dying on the cross.
03:20That's correct. By dying on the cross for our sins that whoever believes in him, as John 3.16 says, will not perish, but have eternal life.
03:27And so that's lesson number one. Jesus gave us the example of what love is.
03:32That means to lay down, he laid down his life for us.
03:35So therefore, lesson number two is very easy. It's the next sentence. And we ought to do what?
03:41We ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
03:47That's a very easy lesson, isn't it? Nothing really difficult to grasp with that. If Jesus laid down his life for us by dying on the cross,
03:56that doesn't mean that you and I are going to die on the cross for other people. We don't have to do that anymore.
04:01But laying down our lives for our brothers and sisters means we do one thing. And I'm going to teach you, you already know this word, but I'll have you say a word with me and that word is sacrifice.
04:10Sacrifice. Say sacrifice. Sacrifice.
04:13Sacrifice. What it means to sacrifice is we don't think of ourselves, but we think of others.
04:19We don't look to only serve our needs and our wants, but we look to serve the needs and wants of others.
04:26It's a very simple lesson, but powerful too. Let's pray.
