00:00Hey, I'm Kyle Gordon. I'm Joe DiNardo from the band Mojo Hand. And we're on tour right now.
00:14We're finishing up. We're here in Chicago. We've been all around the country and Canada. World
00:18tour. And I'm promoting my new album, Kyle Gordon is Wonderful. I'm a really down-to-earth and
00:23humble guy. And we're gonna show off our van and how we've been traveling around. So yeah,
00:28as you can see, there's like a bit of a bug holocaust happening right here on the front
00:32of the van. We've been traveling. When was the last time you washed this van? Because this is Mojo Hand's
00:37van. Yeah, it's our van, but we've been on the road for about a month now. And it's probably been about
00:40a year since we washed this van. Fair enough. Yeah, yeah. The inside is spotless, but sometimes we
00:45miss the front. We were kind of hoping that all the dead bug bodies would scare off more bugs to
00:50come and it would even out. Yeah, it's like a scarecrow. It's like a vehicular scarecrow.
00:54Well, so I do most of the driving. This week, I'm actually not driving too much because I lost my
00:59license. But for the most part, I do the driving. He's literally picking up his license in Columbus
01:04at my friend's place. So Ian, our keyboard player, has been doing most of the driving
01:08of the last few days. Yeah. Yeah. But it is mostly assigned seats. I am the king. So I sit in the
01:18king's chair and the king sits in the front. And then the plebeians, they sit in the back. So Joe
01:24will be up here driving. And then the rest of the van will be back there. The van is pretty full. So
01:31I don't know. What's it like sitting back there? You've sat back there a few times.
01:35It's very hot because only the front air conditioning works. But, you know, the sweat,
01:40you know, helps you stay focused and it helps you, you know, pass the time. Up here, though,
01:45it's great. I mean, it's quite comfortable. These are really, yeah. Yeah, I got this. This kind of
01:50doesn't work, but you can, you can kind of, I get these, these were actually do work pretty well.
01:54So I've been quite comfortable. We have our phone holder for all of our informational needs. We
01:59have our cigarette layer that also doesn't really work, but none of us smoke anyway. So I guess it's
02:04fine. Exactly. Got to take care of your instrument. Usually I would say the music is mostly switching
02:10off between me and Jasper, our drummer. And we sort of do listen to a mix. We don't, we haven't really
02:15listened to any podcasts. There was one. So, I mean, I don't know. We've, we genuinely have
02:21listened to everything. So sometimes we'll be listening to like weird, obscure, like blue stuff
02:27that I haven't heard that Jasper put on. And then right before we pulled up, we were listening
02:31to Mambo number five. And there is, I feel like there does need to be a combination of like
02:36vibey zone out ambient music. And then especially when we need to focus, like putting on pop songs,
02:41we, when we, we had our, the worst drive was driving across North Dakota. And when we just
02:47had to get to the hotel, um, we put on the jerky boys just to like literally just like,
02:53ha ha ha. We're laughing. We're laughing. Ha ha ha. Everyone stay awake. Ha ha ha. Keep
02:56your mind nimble. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh, yeah. So I'd say, right. That's a pretty
03:01good night. It's really a mix of a lot of stuff. I mean, we all like a lot of stuff, but we also
03:06like pushing the limits to see what we can put on to make other guys like, all right,
03:11we got to turn this off. Yeah. What was the Jasper put on the like, who was the vocal, um,
03:17like scat guy you put on? Oh my gosh. This is a deep cut. Uh, uh, let me look him up. It's
03:24starts with an L shout out to Lauren Benedict, L O R I N Benedict. He's the most original jazz
03:31singer probably alive today and we love him. Yeah. So this is usually, I'll have my backpack
03:36kind of down here because there's literally no room for it. I scream a lot during my show right
03:42now. I'm like sort of recovering a little bit. So I've got Paul's cough drops here, cough drops here.
03:49I've got my steamer. Yeah. So I've like, it's mostly like my dorkified setup. Uh, I don't have it
03:56here. I'll have like a big jug of water down here. Here are my dirty shirts that after each show I
04:01like sweat profusely and then I don't want to put it in with the other stuff. So my black show shirts
04:07kind of build up here. Um, this is, uh, my, like, I have a lot of different costumes and props. This
04:14is the only one I can't really like shove in the bag with everything. So I have my cowboy hat and then
04:18that's their cowboy hats. Cause they also do a lot of different costume changes. Um, and then sort of
04:23just like weird shit we've accumulated. This is fun. Uh, someone in Atlanta gave me this. This is,
04:29uh, his name is Mr. Dr. Simi or Mr. Simi. This is like a Mexican pharmacy mascot. And, uh, I've come
04:39to learn, I think it's, it's a great honor if you receive one. So, uh, they gave it to me as a
04:44compliment. So Mr. Simi has sort of been guiding us. Um, this is when we went into Canada and didn't
04:49want to declare anything. I spray painted a bunch of shirts like Kyle Gordon loves
04:53Canada. Um, so I got spray paint up here. Um, yeah. And then we have set lists. This is a book
05:01that Joe bought. It should be good. Uh, yeah. That's sort of my area. And then I've, I've gone,
05:09I've, you know, the fun, I've been record shopping a lot. Um, that's sort of like anytime we have
05:16downtime, I'll try to go find a record store. So, um, kind of been, been loading up and it's nice when
05:22you don't have to fly. Cause I can just, you know, I'll, I'll drop it off when I get home.
05:27All right. God. Fuck it. Yeah. So the outside handle doesn't, you know, work. We kind of think
05:35of it as a feature because we can't open it. No one else can. We have to reach in the inside
05:39and you got a good push security system. And then ta-da. This is a crucial element. Oh yeah.
05:47Um, our best trash can. Uh, so usually this'll live right here in, uh, the trough. We call
05:53this the trough down here. Yeah. Which you learn from, I think it was one of your videos. Maybe
05:57it was someone else's video. Someone called that area the trough. Yeah. And it fits perfectly. So
06:01there's five of us on this tour and we fit two of us up front, but then usually two guys will be
06:06sitting on this bench seat and whoever's lucky enough to get the back, they get to lay down and they
06:10get to take a nap while the rest of us are all sitting up. We have no AC, so it's a trade-off. I mean,
06:14some people are more tired than they are hot and some people are more hot than they're tired.
06:18So if you're hot, you move forward. If you're tired, you move back. Yeah. The, the back kind
06:22of shuffling happens throughout day to day. You know, there's a lot of shuffling that happens
06:27going on in the back. So it works. So we've got all of these. We have actually a bunch more. They're,
06:31uh, there are bubble guns. It took a, well, they're not working right now, but no, they'll go.
06:35They'll go. It took a few iterations of, uh, yeah, there we go. Yeah. Of decision-making to find these.
06:41Yeah. We've gone through a few, but so we use these in the show, um, for one song and, uh, we've
06:46actually gone through a bunch of different iterations. So we've settled on the bubble blast.
06:51That's our preferred brand. Um, but, uh, we had a bigger one that kind of started shitting out.
06:57And so we've, we've really done shopped around and this is also more nimble, easier for the band to
07:02kind of hold and navigate. They're playing their instruments, blah, blah, blah with the bubble gun.
07:06So it's, uh, we have one did shit out, but we have three left that work. Uh, well, maybe we have
07:13two. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. At least one works. Yeah. Wait, maybe this is the, oh yeah, we have
07:19three. That's the shitty one. I think that was originally. Um, all right. So the refill, we have the,
07:24the. Oh yeah. So we never run low. Industrial bubbles. Yeah. This is something crucial for,
07:31for Kyle Gordon show. We need to make sure we're stocked up plenty of bubbles. Other bands won't tell you,
07:35but the whole touring industry is, uh, relying on this stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. I mean,
07:40you're not a real musician until you are traveling with a full thing of, uh, bubbles. Um, yeah. Then
07:46we've got, this is a box of, I think Ian's random shit. Uh, oh yeah. Let's see what's in here. I don't
07:51know. Yeah. I don't even know. He's got fruit. Oh no, no. This is the t-shirts, the black t-shirts,
07:57the Canadian t-shirts. So these are the ones we bought for, um, when we spread, when we didn't want to
08:03bring up the official merch. So we've got a few of these left. I do have a Toronto. We're ending
08:06the tour in Toronto. So, um, these may get put to good use. Um, this is, we, it's good. We've,
08:15we've really gone through. It's nice. We started the tour at our guitar player, Elijah's house,
08:21and his mom loaded us with a, up with a bunch of snacks. And then our drummers from San Francisco,
08:25which is about halfway through the tour. And we got loaded up with more chips and snacks.
08:29So we've kind of done pretty well of like having two big re-ups of snacks. Um, and, uh, yeah,
08:38so this is what we have left. We've gone through a bunch of different things. Uh, yeah, you, you
08:43guys coined the term good food. Um, so like with the Dunkaroos, uh, any sort of like cereal bar
08:49or like candy granola bar. It, uh, keeps moving. It keeps you full. It's good food. Good food.
08:55Yeah. So, uh, most of the time when we're touring independently from Kyle, we're sleeping in here.
09:01Like this is our home away from home. And, uh, because of that, we have no shortage of sleeping
09:05supplies. Just random sleeping bags kind of everywhere in here. And, uh, it's great. I mean,
09:13in the winter, it keeps us really warm. Uh, in the summer, it keeps us even hotter than we normally
09:17are, but you know, we can't really do anything about that. Uh, and then yeah, some of the,
09:21some of the times, even this tour, we'll have a guy come out here. Our, our keyboardist Ian,
09:25a lot of the times he likes sleeping out here, even still, even when there's a hotel. Yeah.
09:28Yeah. So, uh, it's real comfy. We've got a good feng shui thing going on here. We've kind of,
09:33you know, I don't know, we made it, uh, we made it good for us. Yeah. So the sleeping situation on
09:38this tour is mostly I'll get one room with two queen beds and then we have an air mattress. I'll show you
09:44that eventually, but an air mattress back there and then someone will sleep in here. So that's how we're,
09:49um, distributing the sleeping situation at night. So someone most nights is sleeping in here.
09:54So these are our stickers, you know, like any good van, we need a good sticker collection.
09:58And, uh, I think we've done pretty good so far. I mean, this is where it all goes back to. This
10:02was actually my high school band and we found one of our stickers left over. So we had to slap it on
10:07and then right above it is our current band. Uh, but like right here, honestly, would be a great
10:12spot for a new sticker and we don't really have anything. Oh, wait, what's this? Boom. Perfect.
10:17Perfect. Perfect. That's coming with us everywhere, huh? Yep. Glad to say we sold out of these on our
10:29tour, but somehow, um, I only made them pay like 20, 30 bucks, but I allowed them to have one of
10:34these stickers, um, for themselves. Uh, this is, I think one of the first things we bonded over me
10:39in the band was that our, we both had, uh, not only had been to South of the Border, but these
10:45stickers are very, uh, I remember like being at my uncle's house, like that my grandparents, like,
10:51you know, where he grew up and like, he had a door covered in stickers. And like, I remember seeing
10:55the OG, these stickers haven't changed for 70 years or whatever, since the seventies. So yeah,
11:02very cool sticker. Uh, here's some of our favorite places. Like the blue pig in Moab. It's like this
11:07blues bar in the middle of the desert that we played a few times. And it's just so much fun.
11:11It's a great barbecue. This one is a new one. It's one of our favorites. A great fan of Kyle's
11:15and ours out in San Diego. Marv made it for us. And the second we saw it, we all started freaking
11:20out because that's our, our newest album cover. Uh, so it's great to see us in like a digital form.
11:25All right. This is the inside. So this is our bed. It's, uh, barely holding on, but it's still working
11:32for now. Uh, all of our friends that we meet and like anyone we see on the road, we, uh, we have
11:37sign it. So we got to sign it. Yeah. We have our collection of autographs here. Yeah. Do you have
11:41a Sharpie? We'll get a Sharpie. We'll get a Sharpie. But, uh, yeah. So two of us will sleep up here
11:46when we're on the road and like, we'll take all of our stuff, our guitars and stuff. We'll put it in
11:51the front seat and we'll just park at a truck stop. And it's pretty comfy. I thought it was going to be
11:55way more miserable than it is, but it's nice. It's a cozy, but you know, we're all friends. So
12:00it works. And then down here is where, you know, all of our other stuff goes, our amps, our drum set,
12:06uh, different various stands and merchandise and everything. And then when, when they're touring
12:11with me, there's also costumes that also need to be transported. So this thing is like literally
12:16packed to the gills. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Joe. I'm the packing guy. I, uh, you know, there's a few
12:23key big items that you have to get into the right spot first and foremost. Once you get that,
12:29you have some leeway with some other stuff, but like if the base amp doesn't get where it needs
12:32to be, or the keyboard stand doesn't get where it needs to be, everything else is jammed up because
12:36it won't fit in without these few big things. So every night it's like a new challenge depending on
12:41what we have to figure out how to get down the road basically. All right. Thanks for checking out the
12:45van. Uh, my name is Kyle Gordon and I'm Joe DiNardo from Mojo Hand. And, uh, yeah, you can check me out.
12:51Kyle Gordon is great on everything. Again, check out my new album. Kyle Gordon is wonderful. Check
12:55out my first album. Kyle Gordon is great. Um, and yeah, by the time you see this, the tour will
13:00probably be wrapped up, but keep an eye out. Kyle Gordon is great.com. Um, sure I'll be back out
13:05on the road soon. So, uh, come check, check me out at a city near you. And, uh, we have a new album
13:11out, Dungarees by Mojo Hand. We'd love it if you listened to it. We're on the road all the time.
13:15We're going to be probably coming to your city sooner than you would expect. So, uh, give
13:19us a follow and, uh, listen to our stuff.
