00:00the chibi news daily reflection hi I'm Jordan and I'm a vicar in the Church of England this
00:11week we have been taking the time to journey through Jesus parable of the prodigal son we
00:18can all think of a TV plot line where someone excludes themselves from their community because
00:24of resentment and offense and it's the same in our story the prodigal son has returned after
00:33squandering his father's inheritance his father has restored him and thrown a party and invited
00:39everyone but now the older brother is offended by his father's lavishness towards his younger son
00:45the father comes out to plead with his older son who refuses to come in in his offense the
00:54older brother leaves himself on the outside while everyone else is inside celebrating sounds a bit
01:01like the old saying cutting one's nose off to spite one's face the father pleading with his son says
01:09but we had to celebrate and be glad because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again he
01:15was lost and is found and Jesus ends the parable there we don't know if the older brother does come
01:24in but perhaps sometimes it is better to win the person than win the argument and it is better to
01:32let the guard down and sue for peace and reconciliation than be alone on the outside bitter and angry and
01:40right in our own eyes
