Oregon Ducks Tony Tuioti Defensive Line Coach Discusses How Matayo Uiagalelei Has Handled pressure from Last Season
Transcript
00:00I feel like there's a lot of pressure on Mateo to kind of build on his season last year.
00:08Do you think he feels that?
00:09And if so, how do you think he's kind of handled that and attacked that pressure?
00:13Yeah, I think anybody that knows Mateo, like he doesn't really feel pressure.
00:17You know, his approach and his process, he works so hard and he trains.
00:21And so he's got complete confidence in his skill and what he can do.
00:25So I think pressure is a privilege and all our guys, they come here to Oregon because of that.
00:32You know, we don't shy away from pressure.
00:34We understand that to be great, we got to work hard.
00:38And every single day, that's what we try to strive to do.
00:42In practice, Coach Lanning pushes us each and every day.
00:44And for somebody like Mateo, he's always even kill.
00:48He's never too high. He's never too low.
00:50He's always consistent.
00:51But one thing about him, he's going to show up every time, especially when we need plays.
00:55Like last year, we needed to have plays.
00:58Mateo's going to show up.
00:59Wisconsin game, he showed up and made an interception at the end.
01:02It was third down in the little red zone.
01:04He's going to show up and make a sack for us.
01:06So I'm just proud of his development, too, as well.
01:08You know, I look back at him and Tatum.
01:10They both came in as, you know, young 18-year-old kids and see them now be leaders of this team.
01:15Just super proud of Tale and his process.
01:17You know, we're going to need him to be his best, you know, for us to go where we want to go to.
