The Eastern Theatre Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China has recently conducted a large-scale amphibious assault exercise at the Dongshan coastal training ground in Fujian Province — a strategically located region facing the Taiwan Strait.
The operation involved units from the Amphibious Brigade of the PLA’s 73rd Group Army, including crews operating ZLT-05 amphibious tanks — armoured vehicles designed for landing operations and combat in coastal environments.
The manoeuvres simulated the crossing of water obstacles and the coordinated landing of assault formations.
According to Chinese military sources, the drills are part of a combat readiness operation and were carried out in direct response to recent military exercises conducted by Taiwan.
The activity highlights rising tensions in the region and the strengthening of the PLA’s operational capabilities along China’s southeastern coastline.
